Its hard to buy the participation argument when BB cannot field a freshman team and NCC has to use sophomores in their freshman games. Not sure about HC.

Two catholic girls schools would work also. You would be able to offer sports like field hockey for example, that are not currently offered.

I often wonder, football aside, would it not make more economic sense and efficiency to have one, or at most, two male Catholic schools in NKy? It seems that in different ways, BB, CCH, HC and NCC seem to struggle. Would there not be efficiency in a bigger, consolidated, school? Would be nice to have a school on this side of the river in the GCL. Think of the ability to attract players then! Heck, for a shot at playing against gcl competition, I'd even consider it for my son!

Its one thing to have 2 or 3 open enrollment athletes on your roster. Quite another to have 20. Or, in the case of T and X, 100!

No, its much more effective to push back by refusing to schedule!

Grouping schools into classes based solely on male student population is ridiculous. Some other metric needs to be included, such as the number of open enrollment athletes on a varsity roster. A program with 20 open enrollment athletes in their program should not be on field with a program with no open enrollment athletes. Period.

Only if the right people are looking at you at that moment. If you are presorted into a group that is led by a school not affiliated with the host, your performance can be missed. Just because you show to a camp hosted by a d1 school does not mean you will get looked at by anybody at that school. Representatives from dozens of lower level programs show up , either working the camp themselves, or observing. If you are not an invitee, you are likely to get herded into one of these groups.

Regarding the tape, I was told differently by James Franklin, the head coach at Vanderbilt just yesterday. I have heard similar remarks from Coach Solich (sp) of Ohio and Haynes of Kent State. Sure, if a kid is a freak of nature, they can be offered on the basis of a you tube video, like the recent prospect who demonstrated that he could run 25 mph on a treadmill. But coaches have told me they want to tape of kids against elite competition.

Film does matter. It matters quite a bit and with all due respect, just having been to about 15 of these d1 camps and have been told so repeatedly, I can say that with certainty. Coaches (d1) want film against the best available talent. 3/4 of the camps are combine testing, with the rest position work and 1 on 1's. It is shocking how much combine stats are relied upon.

I hate to say it, but if you want a d1 scholarship, the place to play is OH, CA, FL or TX. Its not enough to perform well at camp. If you don't have a rep before hand, you can perform well and never be noticed.

Those schools for the most part, have higher enrollments than NKy 6A as well. HS Football is incredibly poorly supported in Lexington.

This does not sound like this was a high school measured 40, but an EKU measured 40. Electronic measurements are faster than manual measurents. And yes, Dylan is that fast.

Ancient History. There is a kid named Dylan Powell at SK who will grab bigger headlines, gain more yards and score more TD's. With a huge, mobile OL a senior QB and talented receivers Powell will be running in secondaries full of blocked cornerbacks. He will never have run against a defense with 8 or 9 defenders in the box. Oh, and he has been clocked in the 40 at camp at 4.38.

It will be interesting to see what happens when khsaa assumes oversight over middle school athletics. Particularly, the concept of declaring your high school of choice by 7th grade. I think the resentment comes in when athletes who are not committed to a program have no problems taking reps from kids who are. Treating a change in choice as a transfer might alleviate some of these issues.

Three years ago, a certain team in Union was able to beat Highlands, snapping its long KY high school opponent win streak. The following year, a single injury turned this same program into a third place finisher in its own district. Perhaps in metro Louisville, you have the number, diversity and depth of talent to be competitive with X and T, but most do not. Even before any 6A team thinks about competing with X and T, they have to get to the level that Scott Co is at. At least they are a large school facing little to no competition for athletes, and supported by both a university and a major industrial entity. The Northern Kentucky talent pool has been thinned by the addition of 3 new programs in the last 6 years , and by changing attitudes towards football that has been addressed in other threads here.

No closed enrollment program is going to have any shot at all competing with a program whose entire athlete population is open enrollment. I don't care who is coaching.

Kentucky High School Athletic Association Enrollment Reports I was going from memory and in fact 1300 for 11/12 is the correct enrollment number from Trinity. There are even several Lexington and Louisville area schools that come close to this enrollment, but here in NKy , SK has the largest with 875 and the others are much smaller.

If public schools separated themselves into all male and all female schools, then at least the male athlete pool would be close to the 1600 T carries. At the bottom of 6A (Student Count) some schools only have 700 males. The first step towards competitiveness with T is having close to the same student body class. In no other class do you have to compete with a program that has twice as many bodies to draw from. This is why some of us advocate T and X moving to a gcl type league.
