  1. When you lose most of your Varsity Roster to graduation it is tough. Most all the schools go thru this. I believe the jump from freshman to JV is much smaller then from JV to Varsity. The Pitching and defense is so much better at the varsity level.
  2. Add Newport High School to that list as well.
  3. Nate Verst throws No Hitter in 5 inning game.
  4. Conner Verst started against Trinity and Nate Verst started against Desales.
  5. Brossart has a double header tomorrow in Loiusville. Trinity and Desales.
  6. Congrads to all the players who have worked hard and will continue their baseball careers at the next level. There are allot of very good ball players who will never be referred to as a "D1" player. Some kids just never intend to go to college. It could be grades or that they may be more interested in a trade.
  7. Scrimmage game schuduled for Saturday. Looks doubtful.
  8. I think most kids look forward to playing High School ball for their school. It has more to do with pride. I think 8th graders who make the cut for the freshman team are usually pumped about the coming season. It definitely varies from school to school and some schools have much more competitive players and teams.
  9. Still where are these 8th graders playing ball games in March, April and May?
  10. I did not realize there were any seasons running concurent with High School Baseball. Since the majority of the players will play for their High School I would think they would have trouble getting quality players at that time. We have kids playing for Midland, Ky Colonels, ATY Roosters etc and they all start after High School ball is over. What leagues play in the spring?
  11. Nah what I am telling you is the seasons do not run at the same time. To say a kid is better off sitting out the spring season and then playing summer select ball is just wrong. Most High Schools have good programs with intense practices and the kids get better especially at the 8th grade level. The good players play nearly year round. Just see no reason a kid would be better off not playing in the spring.
  12. The more dedicated players are playing 3 seasons. High School in the spring, select in summer and then fall ball usually with High school again. You see the same kids more or less from one season to the next. Some of the schools in the more competitive regions are fielding some very good freshmen teams. I would say nearly every kid playing travel season in the summer are playing for their High School as well.
  13. Most do both. Travel ball in the summer and High School in the spring.
  14. Some of the smaller schools pull in 8th graders to be able to field 3 teams. Varsity JV and freshmen. The 8th graders are usually to fill out the freshman team where many freshmen play JV.
  15. Knothole is much cheaper then travel teams. If you forego the out of state tourneys it is much less then 150 dollars. Teams usually are able to get sponsors to cover most of the cost mention.
  16. Lots of wood bat tourneys popping up every year, seems like the young players are fascinated with wood the way we were when metal bats made the scene.
  17. Campbell County Knothole is still a bargain at 75.00! ccknothole.com
  18. By the way I really liked the coaches from Holmes. Seemed to have a really good connection with their players and you could tell they loved what they were doing.
  19. parent cost may have something to do with it. Seems like Summer basketball would have the same issues.
  20. Not sure I understand where the budget figures into this. They do have a team with equipment, fields etc. Just seems to be a lack of player interest. From schools of this size it amazes me. Both schools are full of talented athletic kids so I don't understand. Just seems to be a general lack of baseball interest and from inner city schools at that.
  21. It amazes me that Holmes and Newport at not more competitive on the baseball field. Newport had to have 7th graders on the JV team and are not able to field a freshman team. Unbelievable.
  22. Was Eddie Rust the Freshman coach? Eddie is a great guy and knows baseball and I know he was on the freshmen staff a few years ago.
  23. None of these sites have access to all the stats for all players for all the High School teams in a region even. None of them take every player into consideration. They are all based on the limited info available to that person/persons at the time. Some are more limited then others. LOL Still fun to speculate.
  24. Stealing bases can be attributed to pitchers as much as catchers. Although it does help to have a strong arm behind the plate.
  25. Bourbon County Graduated 9 Seniors last year. Harrison and Bourbon are always tough and seem to always be able to put strong teams on the field.
