  1. Sounds like a game of runs. Thanks for the updates!
  2. There are still 6 on the main team still alive going into the semifinals tonight. Also, there are 4 honorable mentions left.
  3. I am not a fan of having a single 15 person team. I would much prefer 3 teams of 5 players each. I feel like it devalues being on the team a little with no distinction between the best player and the 15th best. Three teams of five would still provide recognition for as many kids while adding an extra layer of prestige for the best of the best.
  4. Fleming led by double digits midway through the second half, but turned the ball over a few times and missed the front end of three bonus situations to give Ashland life. A Dixson putback with 7 seconds left tied the game, and Burns got in the lane but couldn't get a clean look at the buzzer. In OT Fleming hit a pair of free throws for a three point lead with 7 seconds left. They fouled almost immediately on the inbound since they still had a foul to give. Fleming didn't foul on the ensuing play, and an Ashland player (not sure who it was) got a pretty clean look from 3. The ball took a trip around the rim, bounced off the backboard, and then settled into the net to tie the game. Fleming dominated the second OT with Burns scoring 8 pretty quick points as Ashland appeared to be completely physically and emotionally fatigued.
  5. I agree. There was only one call that got my blood boiling, and it was against Fleming Co. A lot of the foul disparity was Ashland having to come from behind in regulation and the second OT. In the last minute or so, Ashland fouled 3 times to force Fleming to shoot the Bonus. Fleming missed all 3 front ends which gave Ashland life. In the second OT I would guess Ashland fouled 4-5 times after getting behind, and it may have been more than that.
  6. I was very impressed with him last night. It was the first time I had the opportunity to watch him play, and he really stood out to me. I thought he was the best player in either semifinal game.
  7. No Bach? I think he is clearly the number 2 player in the region. Also, you'll have to clarify on S. Johnson. Shawn or Snoop?
  8. That describes Prewitt quite well also. Maybe he doesn't defend the post as much this year, but he has performed very successfully in all aspects of the press.
  9. The only team to beat Montgomery Co in a close game this year was Bryan Station, and that happened because they never let the Indians have their typical 3 minute spurt where they go on a 10-0 or 15-4 run. In all the other close games the Indians played this season (Dixie Heights, Collins, Scott, Mason Co. and Harlan Co. come to mind) the Indians had a 3rd or 4th quarter run to move either a deficit or a small lead into a comfortable double digit cushion. I think this game comes down to whether or not Brossart can control the tempo for 32 minutes. If they can only control it for 29 minutes that probably won't be enough.
  10. 4 teams that were considered by many to be regional favorites have fallen. 1st-Marshall Co. 8th-Collins 9th-Newport Central Catholic 12th-Pulaski Co. All four lost to teams that were considered either co-favorites, or at least top 3 teams in their region. Collins was the only one that I was really surprised by. The other major surprise to me was Pulaski Southwestern losing to Mercer Co.
  11. I think Ballard will win a close one. How early do you need to get there to make sure you're admitted and can get a seat?
  12. Braxton Beverly of Perry Co. Central is probably the best I've seen. He starred in the state tournament as a 7th grader and has already scored over 1000 points in Varsity action.
  13. Who selects the finalists and who votes for Mr. Basketball?
  14. I would say Hawkins or Prewitt. Hicks missed about a quarter of the season, which I think would hurt his chances. Troutman and Willis are both outstanding players, but neither of them dominate the way Hawkins and Prewitt have this season.
  15. Malachi Israel is by far my favorite name!
  16. I feel like Henry Clay has been the most inconsistent team in the state. I think anyone who has followed them wouldn't be surprised if they lost by 20 or won by 20. I have reached the point where I will not be surprised by any score for a game they play. I have seen them look like the best team in the state, and I've seen them look like a team who isn't worthy of being in the top 20.
  17. I also like Marshall Co in a close one. Are these the two favorites in the 1st?
  18. I agree. I enjoyed watching both teams this season, but Hopkinsville looks to be a little too much for Henderson Co. Glad it sets up for a championship match-up between these two.
  19. A Central/St X first round game could be one of the best in the state. Trinity will have a tough semifinal against the winner of that one. Ballard has to be pleased with their draw. Male is a solid team, but I don't know that they can really challenge the Bruins in the semis.
  20. I think Scott, GRC and Harrison all got favorable draws. Brossart, Nicholas and Bracken got unfavorable draws. Montgomery got a push. Augusta has the hardest possible draw to make the semis, and their easiest possible draw to make the finals.
  21. Augusta got the worst first round draw possible.
  22. Monday 6:30- Brossart v Bracken Co 8:00- Montgomery v. Nicholas Co Tuesday 6:30: Augusta v Scott 8:00 Harrison Co v GRC
  23. Congratulations to the Panthers! This has to be one of, if not the biggest win in school history. Hopefully, for the Panthers, the best is yet to come. They could make the region semis if they take care of business in the championship game and miss the 37th district runner-up. I'd guess they are shooting even higher than that though!
  24. What type of atmosphere/crowd should be expected for this game? How was it for last years District Championship game?
