Bonne did not play, hopes to return next week.

Complete domination by the Bearcats tonight. Had a 15-25 point lead for the majority of the game and did a great job contesting 3's, Spencer County shot 20% from 3. Spencer had no answer for WV on the inside. WV did this without the services of Trey Bonne which makes this win even that more impressive. Jones is starting to play well from the perimeter which opens things up for the bigs.

Walton Verona's defense was stellar tonight. Gallatin did not score a point the 1st quarter and had 27 points when WV pulled the starters. It was an offensive struggle in the first half but WV pulled away by the middle of the 3rd quarter and the game was never in question in the 4th quarter. Garrett Jones had an impresive game on both ends of the floor, if he can continue that play and Trey Bonne works his way back from injury this can be a tough out next week at EKU.

He sprained his ankle in the 2nd round of the King of the Bluegrass. He would of made a huge difference in the SK game but I am a firm believe of the next man up philosophy, no need to play the excuses game. Tonight's game against Gallatin will be much more difficult than last time as well without Bonne, perimeter shooting is what can beat WV at this point.

Great write up as usual. It should be noted that WV is missing Trey Bonne who has been out since December 21st with a high ankle sprain. I believe he is on the mend and should be back on the floor in the next week or so and that will bring a different dynamic to the Bearcats and hopefully help them finish the regular season on a high note.

KY does not have classes for basketball but I believe their football team is 2A. These teams had equivalent size schools which is why they were matched up.

Less than 24 hours after a tough district match up, Walton-Verona traveled to New Castle Indiana for the KY-IN cup and destroys a 10-1 #6 team in their class North Daviess team. Complete turnaround from the night before, starters shot 7-15 from 3 and played throttling defense and ND's stud guard. Definetely a good way to get the bad taste out of their mouth from the night before and get ready for the upcoming all A tournament this week. Grubbs led the way with 14 followed by Pardee with 12. The starters came out early in the 4th with a 40+ point lead.

Exactly, Walton-Verona is mich better in a grind it out game against Cooper or Cov Cath who shoot 33 and 37% respectively from 3 than teams who get up and down the floor and shoot 45% from 3 like SK.

This is pretty much exactly what I predicted with Bonne out for WV. The teams that will beat WV this year are the ones that can hit the 3 ball, this is exploited times 10 when Bonne is out because he is their most athletic guard and best scoring guard. Unfortunately for WV, 6 teams in the 8th can shoot the heck out of it. WV would actually be better off in the 9th this year.

Hearing Bonne is out for WV for another week or so with an ankle sprain. SK's offense is the achilles heel to WV, spread you out and shoot the 3 ball well. Doesn't bode well for WV with Bonne on the sideline and game played at SK, should be SK's game for the taking.

After watching Spencer County at King of the Bluegrass, if they are the 8th best team in the region this region must be loaded. I would venture to say they are better than Grant and Gallatin and possibly South.

When does SK play someone in the top 5 of that teams region? Their best win so far is probably Conner who is not even top 5 in the 9th. Hard to get a good read on them at this point with the competition they have played.

We may never know, SK never enters stats into KHSAA as required....

You realize that the home team is the one that usually reports the scores? This may not be the ones reported by WV. Either team could potentially be sending these in.

Trey Bonne is a wild card for WV, 6'4 long, athletic as it gets and takes this team to another level at times offensively and defensively. Should be fun to watch this team progress.

Looking at the stats for Dixie from last season, it looks like Cody was definitely a contributor and should be a nice addition to Lloyd. Szabo played in 17 games averaging 1 point a game and Jackson only played in 8 games averaging less than 5 points a game. Have the latter 2 improved that much from last season that they will be substantial contributors?

I was under the impression the Cov Cath withdrew from this which lead to them cancelling the event because they were worried about ticket sales, anyone able to confirm this?

I think WV since they have lost first round of region last 3 or 4 years. Would seem to me the pressure is on to finally get over that hump with the senior group they have.

Walton-Verona plays every team in the region this year besides Collins, North Oldham and Shelby County.

WV has played Anderson the past few years as well as Oldham and South Oldham. They do play a lot of teams up north just because of their location and having to play Trimble, Owen, Carroll, Eminence, Henry, etc because of conference. I think they are playing Spencer this year which will be a nice match up. Simon Kenton and Walton-Verona are over an hour away from the Louisville area schools which makes it tough when they are required to play those conference teams mentioned above.

Collins definitely has the better guards but WV has a few nice ones as well. Should be a great year in the 8th!

Not sure there is a better front court in the 8th than what Walton-Verona will put on the floor. 6'11 Xavier committ Miles, 6'8 Brook who is very solid, and leading returning scorer and rebounder 6'4 Pardee at Forward. If Shelby is topping that then they are must-see.

Hit the nail on the head. From what I understand he has MANY coaches interested but the fact that he missed the majority of last season, most coaches have only seen him recently on the AAU trail. I know X and Louisville are interested but have not seen anywhere stating that he has offers. I believe NKU is his only offer at this time but if you have seen him play recently you know that it is about to take off for him.

Ferguson has come through from WV middle school, solid athlete but will not be a varsity player this year- probably a year away. Not sure if the student from the south has enrolled yet, heard he attended open gym and is a solid guard but not positive if he will contribute this year.

Should definitely be a great match up. Not positive if they are playing regular season but would be nice to see WV getting in contracts with all the schools towards Louisville and playing all the Oldhams and Collins/Spencer this year.
