Newport will be hard pressed to match the size that Campbell Co. throws on the floor. I noticed that Cam Covington was not at the game against Withrow and Johnson (the football stud) had to sub in as the first big off the bench. Will he be available for this game? Playing @ CC is really, really hard. I'll take the purple hump backs by 20+

The Bluebirds of Highlands travel to Crestview Hills to take on the Red Colonels of Dixie Heights. Both teams have their (rusty) football/basketball players back... who wins and why?

I have no idea of anything except that the player will be gone for a period of time. I'm just looking forward to a time during this season when Dixie is at full strength for a couple of weeks and are competing at their peak level. The thing that is kind of a bummer, for the team, as well as the player, is that he has been playing his best ball of his career. He has really come into his own this year and has been a real difference maker. I hope he can come back and not miss a beat, for his sake and the team's.

I'll take Dixie over both Holmes and Cooper any day of the week

Well, Danny... first, I never said that "I recognize bad coaches." My point was apparently hard for you to grasp... which was, "why do most folks feel its not OK to question, or criticize a HS head coach?" Its funny, there is a mechanism in place for coaches to critique Refs every season. Why can't parents and players be afforded a similar evaluation mechanism? When I teach a college course, each and every one of my students gets to evaluate my performance at the end of the semester. Most professions do. And just because a High School coach "keeps his job for years" does not necessarily mean they are doing a good job.

This game was the first of the year that primarily saw the 8-man rotation that was expected for the season (7 seniors and super Soph Hunter Meyer). A 9th player (JV player) saw about 1-2 minutes in the first half, but that was it. Hedger and Bolin swapping in and out for one another always gave Dixie a strong inside presence. And Drew Moore's athleticism, defense and ball handling really helped. They still won't fully hit their stride until January IMO though, because the football guys are still a little rusty, they are still figuring out the offense and roles, post Hatton, and Bolin will be gone for a couple of weeks here soon for a family vacation. I think after he returns Dixie will need 2 more weeks to get the team to gel.

Price stepped up for Newport this game and had the biggest impact on the game for Coach Snapp's team. Ethan is a special player and there is no doubt that he puts a lot of time and effort into crafting his skills. Withrow made a mistake by letting Ethan touch the ball as much as he did in the second half. Deny him the ball and don't give Newport 2nd chance points (like Withrow did... they are not a big team and neither is Newport) and you will beat Newport. Ethan was getting very frustrated through 3 quarters. I do agree though, that on quite a few other teams, Ethan would have been on the bench more. However, Newport does not have many options to turn to on the bench... and, his dad is the coach. Having your dad as the head coach has its benefits (or, at least that's what I heard Saul Smith once say)

Withrow 45-42 after 3 Snapp zero points in the 3rd... he had plenty of shots... didn't hit any #3 for Withrow is Davon Jordan... a Sophomore Sloppy game
