  1. Congrats Indians! I was hoping to see you get further but proud of you anyway.
  2. Wow! I don't know coach Miller but averaging 30 wins/season for 34 years is very impressive. Congratulations to him and the program.
  3. First round district tournament game between Montgomery and Clark at Clark County in 2012. In top of the first inning one of our players is called out at 3rd base on a questionable call to end the inning. Montgomery county was in 3B dugout. Following the call the player took off his helmet and tossed it to the Montgomery Co dugout. The umpire then ejected the player. The head coach at Montgomery was coaching 3B and questioned the call to eject the player. The Moco head coach had lost his cool in previous games but was under control in this game but was ejected in short order by the same umpire. The asst coach came from 1B coaching box to the umpire to see what was going on and he was finally told by that same umpire that the head coach was ejected because of something he said 5 years previous and the asst coach would be ejected next if he continued the conversation. I've discussed this with the same asst coach and that was exactly what he was told. If an umpire ejected a coach for a good reason wouldn't they share that rather than make up some other excuse? Later in that same game one of the GRC players bunts a ball in front of the plate which bounces high and he runs into it to deflect it off his chest toward 3B. A 3 man crew couldn't see this and is called safe. That became the winning run. A shortstop and head coach are tossed in the 1st inning and what became the winning run was given a free pass on base. This is all in a 1st round district game so the winner advances and the loser stays home. It certainly appears the umpires wanted to be involved in the outcome rather than just officiate the game. MoCo won't use the umpire in question but I'm not sure if that exemption works in post season play.
  4. No. Even though it was a horrible call whether you believe it was intentional or just lost his memory, you still have to live with these umpires as they often show up in district and regional tourneys. Last year Coach Combs was tossed in the first inning of the district tourny because of something he said to the umpire 5 years prior. That's what he told our asst coach before he threatened to toss him next.
  5. Congrats to Clay Barton and his parents on his commitment to Transy! Excellent young man and ball player.
  6. I agree and understand the rule regarding the ball being dead following a foul ball. The umpire said the ball had not been put into play which is incorrect. Following the foul ball the pitcher is on the mound, batter in box, runner takes lead and the home plate umpire shows the count and points to the pitcher (recorded on video). So the question becomes did he not know he put the ball in play, couldn't remember putting the ball in play, or just wanted to reverse the outcome of the play. If he wasn't sure how could he overturn a call made by another umpire? I agree if you don't have errors and score lots more runs it doesn't turn into an issue about a ridiculous call made by an umpire but here's yet another example of an umpire controlling the outcome of the game.
  7. This game ended very ugly. Seems to be a trend when Montgomery plays at Clark. Top of 7th inning, 2 outs, runners at 1st and 3rd, Montgomery Co batting trailing 2 to 1. Batter fouls off pitch to take count to 1 ball 2 strikes. Pitcher is on rubber in set position, runner breaks for 2nd base. Pitcher balks coming off the rubber as called by the base umpire. Both runners advance allowing the tying run to score. After questioning the call by GRC coach, the home plate umpire over rules the call by saying the ball was never put into play so runners had to go back. Either the home plate umpire's memory is fading, he's afraid of Matt Ginter or just wanted to insert himself into the outcome. The game was video taped and he clearly indicated the sign to the pitcher and then points to the pitcher putting the ball in play prior to all the activity taking place. I know missed calls are part of the game but this was a deliberate decision made when the umpire to alter the game.
  8. Williams and Hall pitched in the Montgomery/clark game. This thread is the Montgomery/Bourbon game. KHSAA, you are correct on the stats but just a different game.
  9. Montgomery lost to GRC tonight so they have to beat Paris to lock up the #1 seed. Lost 2 to 1 at GRC.
  10. Hall with another complete game win against Franklin co last night. This team is on a roll being led by the pitching staff.
  11. I haven't seen most of the catchers mentioned but will throw out montgomery county's catcher, Clay Barton. He does a great job handling the pitchers, tremendous blocking ability and an accurate cannon for an arm.
  12. Mon, apr 1 moco defeated holley high school NY 10-0 (5 inning perfect game). Tues, apr 2 moco defeated andrews high SC 9-0. Wed, apr 3 moco defeated geneseo high NY 11-2. Wed, apr 3 moco lost to mt tabor OH 8-4. Thur, apr 4 moco was pounding midview OH 7-0 in top of 2nd inn when called for rain. Overall moco pitching looked pretty good and was able to get several arms on the mound. Bats began to heat up. Nice facilities.
  13. I would speculate Rison did have some say as he is the asst superintendent and part of the admin. I have spoken to a parent whose son played for Coach Wise and was very unhappy with his lack of professionalism, cursing players, etc. Has another school snapped him up as head coach? There is always turnover in any organization of hundreds of employees whether a factory, political organization or school.
  14. Your way off base All State. I believe the admin brought him in and Happy speaks very highly of the admin. If you listen to him he bought into the vision to be top 10 in everything and it seems Montgomery is headed that direction. He seems happy at Montgomery but you can never tell what opportunities may present themselves.
  15. Harrison pitched King against Gulley for Montgomery Co and won 2 - 0. Martin closed game for Harrison. Game played at Harrison. Entertaining game.
  16. Location, movement and changing speeds makes a pitcher. Speed is a nice weapon but a pitcher needs more than just that one weapon. The Montgomery pitchers never looked like they were overthrowing but merely working on location and movement.
  17. WHITAKER BANK BALLPARK, Lexington, Ky. -- Whitaker Bank and the Lexington Legends will serve as hosts for the Hits for Home Invitational March 13-16. Proceeds will go to the Salvation Army, which will then allocate funds to assist communities affected by the March 2012 tornadoes. Sixteen Kentucky high school baseball teams, many of them representing tornado-affected areas, will participate in the eight-game event at Whitaker Bank Ballpark, home of the Legends, who are a class A affiliate of the Kansas City Royals. Tickets to each session (two games per day) are five dollars per person at the gates on the days of the games. There will be no advance sale of tickets. Raffle tickets will be available for purchase. Winning tickets will be drawn and prizes awarded at the end of the final day of competition. "We are super excited to be part of this event," said Legends General Manager Seth Poteat. "It's a great way to give back in some small way to those communities that were devastated last year." The worst of the severe weather hit Kentucky on March 2, 2012, causing 24 deaths. More than 300 people were injured, and many Kentuckians are still struggling to repair and rebuild their lives, homes and communities. To make a personal donation to the tornado survivors, contact Lindsay Hinkebein at Whitaker Bank, 859-293-6005. 19. I admit I'm not a regular attendee at the Sweet 16 tournament. I did hear that KHSAA had a program on their website so you could print it out for your own use. I believe the commissioner said it saved $70K or so by not printing programs. That amount must have included other sports as well.
  20. Congrats to the Panthers! New coach just prior to season and all. Happy for the black & gold. Last trip to Rupp in 1999, I think, when they were in the 10th region.
  21. I wouldn't bet on 1/2 empty arena unless Brossart decides not to show.
  22. Good explanation, rjs4470.
  23. My son has worked with a trainer that works with a number of high school, collegiate and professional baseball players. His take on JuCo is that there are a number of baseball players that play at that level rather than D1 because a professional scout may want to see another year of development from them before drafting them. If they sign D1 there is a 3 year commitment to college. Some players may go the JuCo route because they may not qualify academically for D1 programs. Assuming a JuCo player isn't as good as a D1 player would be a mistake.
