I will be headed out to the Lloyd versus Conner game. Looking forward to seeing Shining Star Sports players Shelby Rudd, Emily Pluto, Jordan Scott, Maddie Meyers and Taylor Gambrell.

I think Conner would have to be a heavy favorite in the 33rd.

My opinions are not meant to judge what type of person the former coach was. I believe the previous coach and her family to be very good people. My opinions are about basketball and are not personal. But my opinion remains the same. It was time for a change.

Cooper won the first half by 5 against the varsity group and tied the second half with mostly JV kids playing. Cooper played very well and did some very good things. I think this team will continue to get better as the season continues. Coach Terwilliger is doing a great job with these young ladies. They are not very deep but play very hard. This team is already light years ahead of where they were the previous two seasons. For the first time since my daughter has played at Cooper they actually seem to have a plan. Good Luck Jags!

The Cooper Lady Jags will have their second scrimmage of the season tonight as they square off against Collins at Scott County High School. I don't know much about Collins but it looks like they had a pretty good season last year. Hopefully this scrimmage will shed some light on how improved the Lady Jags will be. Grace Maniacci will not play tonight do to an injured ankle. Cooper will need her back as soon as possible. She is going to be a big part of what they do this season.

I was very impressed with the play of Emily Pawsat last year. She does a great job running the show for the Beechwood team. Good handles, nice jump shot and has the ability to get to the rim.

Very proud to have had Jordan Scott be a part of the Shining Star Sports family this past season. She really dedicated herself to be the best player that she could be this summer. She worked as hard as any athlete that we have had in our program and should be very proud of what she has accomplished. Congrats to Jordan and her family! I look for Jordan to have a huge senior season. With the college choice out of the way she can relax and just play.

Put the blame on whoever you want but the previous coach decided to leave. The coach was not fired or asked to step down. The coach left to take a position at another school. Last years team finished dead last in the 9th region. They finished 9 wins and 22 losses. They finished 3 wins and 14 losses in their last 17 games and lost those games by an average score of 59-40. They gave up more points than anyone in the 9th region. It was time for a change. Hopefully the new staff can get the Cooper program going in the right direction.

Not sure that I believe that the coach is being handed the keys to a nice car. This coach is taking over a team that finished 9-22 last year and underachieved. He is taking over a team that is short on numbers and overall depth. He doesn't even have enough girls to field a true freshman team. Cooper girls are a combined 34 and 77 since inception and are still looking for their first district win. The new coach is inheriting a group of high character young ladies that will work very hard for him. I wish Coach Terwilliger and his staff the best. Would love to see Cooper have their first winning season and win their first district game. Good luck Jags!

I do think that they will be much more competitive this year. I had the chance to meet the new head coach the other day and he seems very excited about the opportunity that he has to coach these young ladies.

At the Cooper player and parent meeting yesterday we did find out that they will be fielding at freshman/sophomore team. They will play a 14 or 15 game schedule. The freshman numbers were low and to field a team they needed to use a couple of the sophomores in the program to complete the roster. They will be competing against other freshman/sophomore teams during the course of their schedule.

Yes. Grace is playing. She had a very good summer with one of our 10th grade teams.

Kara had a heck of a week during the All A State Tournament. Got her 1000th point, set a 3 point record at the All A, made the All A tournament team and got to celebrate a state championship. Very proud of Kara Jean Taulbee!

What 2 players on this list would not be great rebounders? I would imagine Peacock would be the lowest total and she is getting over 6 per game.

Cooper girls won their opening game of the season by defeating Scott at the Dixie Heights Invitational Tournament last night. A big 2nd quarter run by Cooper was the difference. Cooper will play St. Henry on Thursday. Scott (0-1) - Buntin 2 0 5, Stinson 7 1 15, Meyer 1 0 2, Trimpe 4 3 14, Starnes 0 1 1, Thurber 2 0 4. Totals: 16 5 41. Cooper (1-0) - Schafer 2 0 4, Pittman 3 0 8, Maniacci 1 0 2, Brinneman 5 0 10, Moore 1 0 2, Smith 1 1 4, Thompson 5 0 11, Cheek 1 0 2, Ross 4 0 10, Arnett 1 1 3. Totals: 24 2 56. Halftime: Cooper 31-18. 3-pointers: S 4 (Trimpe 3, Buntin 1); C 6 (Pittman 2, Ross 2, Thompson 1, Smith 1).

Beechwood controlled the game for 3 and 1/2 quarters. St. Henry made a late run but did not have enough to catch Beechwood. I was really impressed with the 8th grader Macy Stuempel. She made some big 3's for the Beechwood team. I also think that Emily Pawsatt does a great job controlling the game for the Tigers. St. Henry really struggled scoring. Missed a lot of shots right around the basket. The freshman Savannah Neace has some good length and should develop into a nice player.

Cooper won the game 46-44. I don't have any stats for Bracken County. Andrea Thompson (Cooper) with 13 points, 2 rebounds and 2 steals. Katey Pittman (Cooper) had 10 points, 3 assists and 2 rebounds. Andrea Thompson was named game MVP for Cooper.

I will be there. My daughter plays for Cooper. They are young, only have one senior on the team.

Zuri is Austin Hill's sister. If she is half as good as her brother was she will be a huge addition!
