  1. I didn't want to appear to be "piling on" considering the issues he had at the end of the season (that's why I didn't start a thread about it), but this very thought crossed my mind too... Also, did the ceremony take place at the high school he no longer attends? Was the now-retired coach there? I'm not asking these things to take a shot, just wondering, 'cause I'll bet it was a pretty awkward environment.
  2. The problem with this approach is that it would go against the way all other penalties are enforced. If a holding penalty happens during a play (even a TD), the play is penalized - no TD and -10 yards. If something happens after a TD, it's a dead ball foul and is assessed on the extra point or the kickoff. IMO, to be completely consistent, if the celebration begins before the TD (crossing the goal line) the TD should be taken away and yardage penalty enforced. If it happens after the TD, then assess it on the XP or kickoff. If it is not enforced this way, what do you do if the kid starts celebrating prematurely and then is tackled at the one yard line? I think enforcement should be based on when/where the penalty happens, just like all other penalties.
  3. LN, I meant eliminate the celebration completely, not the rule. Sorry if I was unclear.
  4. As far as the RRHOF is concerned, they are an '80's band. Their first album came out in '84, but they didn't hit it big until later. I'm pretty sure you're not eligible for the RRHOF until 25 years after your first album/single release.
  5. I think it's easier, more practical, and better to eliminate it completely. Otherwise it's left up to the judgment of the ref as to what crosses the line. Which means a kid could score a TD, thump his chest and get no penalty. The next week he scores on the last play of the game to win it, thumps his chest and a different ref flags him and they lose the game. He thought the chest thump was okay because he did it the previous week, but when there's room for interpretation it can cause lots of trouble, IMO.
  6. I would say in a very strict interpretation of the rule, yes. But again, it's a judgment call. I wouldn't call it if I were the ref, but that's my judgment.
  7. It's obviously subjective - purely a judgment call for the ref. I'm pretty sure Seidl did exactly what the Boston kid did on his second runback vs. LexCath, but no flag was thrown.
  8. Go to the club at the top of the Hancock building. When I went there, I had my fav mixed drink, listened to the jazz band while looking down on the city lights. Very cool.
  9. RRHOF is a joke. It's basically the guy that runs it and he inducts whoever sucks up to him. That said, I would LOVE to make it to the museum in Cleveland someday.
  10. But it looks really cool!! :ylsuper: Well, we'll just have to wait and see...
  11. That would be cool! ETA: What's the status of this place? Is it vacant?
  12. There was a blog post about relocating to a vacant church near the intersection of 6th & Monmouth in Newport. It only seats about 250-300, which is half the capacity of the SGH Ballroom. Plus, there wouldn't be multiple rooms for music. I think if they want to continue the SGH vibe (which includes national acts and multiple rooms) they'll need a bigger space. I think they should buy and renovate the old Thriftway store in Newport. Lots of room and plenty of off street parking. It's fun spending other people's money! 13. Not to hijack the thread but... Others of note are Led Zep I, II, III & IV, 1969-1971 and CCR, pretty much all their hits on six(!) albums, 1968-1970.
  14. Our Southgate House: An Essay on Looking Forward to Big Things http://www.eachnotesecure.com/our-southgate-house-an-essay-on-looking-forward-to-big-things/ Nice thoughts on what the SGH was, is, and will be about.
  15. What if there were a coach who coached the smallest school in their class. And his O and D linemen were outsized almost every game. And he coached at a public school. And early in the playoffs he loses his 1,000 yard receiver. With all that working against him, he still wins the state championship. Would he be worthy of mention in COY? I'm just kidding, kinda...
  16. Yep. Like Jim said, they had to do it. That song was the only one I knew going in. Had it on the WEBN Album Project. Dating myself now...
  17. Highlands v BG Highlands v Cincy Moeller Lex Cath v Franklin-Simpson CCH v Lex Cath CCH v Franklin-Simpson ETA: I didn't say Trinity v Highlands 'cause I knew what the outcome would be. The ones I listed, I did so because I'm not sure who would win those. Trinity v Highlands in 2013 might be interesting...
  18. Good stuff. Thanks for the insightful answer. I assume your last question was rhetorical, but I live in Ft. Thomas. I think the voice of our district says, "Give us excellence in academics, arts and sports."
  19. Saw The Bears (psychodots+Adrian Belew). One of those shows where I went in not really familiar with their music, but was blown away! Same thing with Southern Culture on the Skids, and a guy named Robbie Fulks. That was the beauty of Southgate House. You could go to see someone and if they're playing the ballroom, you know they are going to be good at what they do. Might not be your cup o' tea, but good talent nonetheless.
  20. I'm still a rookie, so I won't care if I look dumb... If county schools have open enrollment, and private schools can take anybody from anywhere, doesn't that put independent schools at a disadvantage? Either you live in the independent district or you pay tuition to go there - right? Seems more restrictive than the other two models. But, at least this year, independents seemed to have a disproportionate amount of success in state championships. We have ourselves a paradox. Why is that? What advantages do independents have that they are able to overcome the perceived disadvantage of restrictive enrollment opportunities? Is there really a history of independents being more successful, or is this year a fluke?
  21. That TD pass as he was being tackled out of bounds was pretty amazing!
  22. Yeah - without him Towles doesn't have the passing numbers from this season. Saw an article that said Sheehan dressed for today's game - cool.
  23. http://www.kentucky.com/2011/12/03/1982225/highlands-beats-franklin-simpson.html From the article: ■ Won their 21st championship, tying Trinity for the state record. ■ Established single-season state records for points (849), touchdowns (121) and total yards (7,516). ■ Gave Dale Mueller his 10th state title, more than any coach in state history. ■ Finished off a state-record 13th undefeated season.
  24. Saw Jake Bruns go down early. Has he come back?
