Covington Catholic 59 Conner 53

If you watched the game, Thelen was constantly drifting out and looking for the jumper. If he doesnt get the immediate pass down low he moves out. Where as Wellbrock works for positioning. -

You obviously took that wrong... What you should have taken it as is that Conner has two nice post players that can both work under the basket. Having 2 guys on the team like that can make it harder for one block or the other to score. Granted, Hodges can slide out and knock down the jumper, but the coach seems to want him to play a solid post. He's done well. Wellbrock doesnt have much competition under the basket as Thelen constantly drifts out to 10-12 feet . -
Highlands 48 Dixie 39

I would say that Highlands bench is deeper than Dixie's, therefore, missing Trammel would be a bigger loss for Dixie, than missing Grote for Highlands. However, both are very nice players, Im sure both teams missed them. I didnt see the game, but I would have liked to see Hatton fill in Trammel's spot. I know Hatton usually plays the 2 and Trammel the 1. To me, Hatton seems to lack a bit of the quickness that Trammel has. Glad to hear he filled the role nicely, and yes, he is a very good player for 14 or 15 years old. -

Wellbrock was a force in the paint. I didnt see him take a jumpshot in the game. Granted I may have missed one, but he was working down low to score off the backboard. He had a nice reverse lay up. The kid looks good and strong. Passionate player. -

Wellbrock was very impressive. Most impressive on the floor for CovCath. IMO, the most overall impressive player on the floor was Tyler Hodges. 20 pts, and multiple rebounds and blocked shots. Conner has been waiting on this young man to have this kind of game and he did it against Wellbrock, who is solid defensively. The reason I say he was most impressive, because he sat most of the 3rd quarter with 3 fouls and because of a bad coaching decision in my opinion. Also, he has to compete with Clay Robinson down low, who is a very solid post player. Wellbrock doesnt have to contend with another strong post player as Hodges does. For those of you who say "what about Thelen?"... He is a nice player. But, he is more of a combo player, than he is a post man, and his defense is lacking at times. Watch out or the 6'8" Hodges if he continues to play like this. -

He is a 2/3. However, at last check he was leading the team in rebounds. He isnt playing the 4 or 5, so that means that he is working his tail off. He also has the ability to bring the ball up the floor if need be. -

Sounds like Montgomery and Cotton are the 2 best players this season, after Gabbard of course. Montgomery is playing real well, as is Cotton. -

I know that Earls has a tweaked ankle. However, he has played terribly in the 2 games he played in previous to this one. In the game against Ryle he looked lost, albeit, the first game of the season. Did he play in this game? How did he do? -

Sounds like Fucci had a real nice game. He certainly has the ability to lead his teams. A little surprised that Barkesdale only had 5, but not completely. I have seen him held in check for near an entire game before. Depends on if the guy defending him really wants to work. Still a great player nonetheless. Has this been the typical type of game for Guyn to this point? Just curious. I was expecting more out of him in the points department. -
BGP Boys State Rankings 12/9

The Top 4 are valid for sure IMO. Good to see that Boone County and Highlands are in the top 20. -
I would imagine they are/were banged up. I think Conner runs out 7 guys, who are all solid or good. Everything after that is a toss up. Why not dress them all?

I know that Scott County is loaded! But, Tates Creek has 2 very nice players in their own right. I'll take Fucci and Barkesdale with the upset here. -

Same things I noticed at the Dixie/Conner game. Watched a kid get elbowed in the face 3 straight times, no foul. Conner kid accidentally kicks a ball on a scrum and gets called for a tech. Wasnt good. -
How did Cooper's Devonte Bradley do in this game? I had the opportunity to watch him play over the summer and it appears that he would be a valuable asset to this team. I know he is the pride of Cooper's football team and I wondered if he brought the same tenacity to the basketball program. As for Conner, I think they need a leader to emerge. One would think that a senior would fill the roll, but appears that Flesch may have to be the guy, though just a junior. Didnt get to see Robinson play in the game against Dixie, maybe he will be the guy. He can play that is for sure.

I saw that Matt Trammel dominated for Dixie. Yes, in a loss, but 24 pts and some 6 assists and 9 boards or something of that nature is. This kid has a bright future as just a junior and Dixie is headed in the right direction. -

I agree that officiating can should not win or lose games for a team. You have to overcome. But, certainly they can have an impact on games. I attended the Dixie V. Conner game on Wednesday night and the officials were just awful there as well. That game was at Dixie. Where was this game? If it was at SK, Dixie probably just got one back from the first game against Conner. If it was at Dixie... they need to look at the referee situation. So goes the season, both teams will be fine. -

I happened to see Cooper Downs sitting on the varsity bench against Ryle on Tuesday night. Albeit, he was in street clothes. And, i know his dad was on the bench coaching. Is there a chance that she see's varsity time this season??? Or, just sitting there to get a live look in.... -

I dont know that Stauffer brings the W in this game, it was just so back and forth. No matter the score, the other team could have scored again. I think Stauffer always helps Ryle though, no matter what. -

I believe Stauffer actually had 5 or 6 points when he went down. I thought 6. And, he didnt twist his ankle just before half, that is false. There was 5 or 6 minutes to go in the second quarter. Not to mention that when he was in the game Boone County had 0 post presence. Boone's big boy (you know who Im talking about) wanted no part of Stauffer early. So they put him on the wing. Other than that... Yes. Great game. Back and forth all the way. I was surprised to see that Gabbard didnt play up to his billing. The young guys for Boone played well, Montgomery and Brown. Popp also looked solid and Cotton is athletic as heck! For Ryle, Coleman looked very sporadic, but boy he scored. Mcleish also looked solid, but wore down at the end because Boone kept pressing him. Good game for him though. Lastly, Vollet, the junior looked real solid for Ryle. A good team. -
Mr. Basketball Favorites?
Perfect Practice replied to Log Mountain Boy's topic in KY Boys Basketball (High School)
He is a great junior. He is not the best player in the state, and he may not be the best player in his class. Some kids at Louisville Eastern, Tates Creek, Clark County, and Warren Central might have something to say about that. One of the best players in the state would also have to include Beckam out of Lex. Cath.
