I know they received applicants from a couple of assistant coaches from the 8th region and from Coach Menifee and of course the usual cast of suspects who apply every year the job opens (Wilson, Nelson, Slater, etc). Of that group Slater is the only one with any coaching experience and any ability to handle a head coaches position. As far as a strong head coaching candidate I have not seen or heard it from anyone. The other name I have not heard is the girls coach Tommy Sorrell who I would think would be a real viable choice.

Until the administration and the meddling parents (boosters) allow coaches to coach at Bellevue and build a program this program will continue to struggle.

Tradition and history only belong to those that want to learn that sort of thing. Why would a kid in Oklahoma concern himself with the tradition of UK basketball? And that street runs two ways....sure the tradition of national titles but also the tradition of ncaa sanctions and not integrating the team as early as other universities did also are part of the UK tradition. The tradition is not part of what an 18 year old kid is worried about unless they are part of it growing up (ie grow up in kentucky dad and grandpa are huge UK fans, etc).

Football was added a while ago by a previous administration that knew how to get some quality out of athletics and academics. Unfortunately now we are getting neither. The football program is really on thin ice.......

This is really interesting especially in light of his horrendous senior basketball season. It is almost like he says ok Coach K so you benched me I'll just be a f-f-f-ootball player! My apologies to the QB on Waterboy.

Keep in mind that he was the number 1 rated high school quarterback four years ago and turned down many schools including ND to play Duke basketball.

Evidently they are having trouble getting interviews set up??? At least that is the word from Terry Connor in the Enquirer.

I have to agree with Preachit on this. Mild success at softball does not translate into success at the varsity basketball level. However...........he has coached basketball in the past but I am not sure how successful he has been. He was a JV coach for a little bit in the boys program under Coach Fisher and from what I can gather he would not support Persinger as a varsity head coach.

EG that was my point about the hire. If this gets botched what few girls are coming to the program will be going to the hill or to CCHS.

I will also say several years ago we were moving in the right direction.........particularly academically and athletically. Now that those individual(s) are gone and have been for several years we are stagnate and moving backwards in both areas.

Okay I am going to take a slightly different slant here. In order for the community to be able to generate excitement first the school (led by its adminsitration) must generate a welcoming feeling for parents and the community. This is where things fall apart in Bracken starting with the board office administration and working its way through school administration. (Hence the pitiful state of the football program). Attitudes must be changed and people need to feel like they are valued and a part of something for anything to change. Sorry if I offend but I am just offering up what I see.

Bo Menifee would give them a young coach with some experience. Hopefully not using this as a stepping stone. Is he teaching somewhere or would he be a para professional?
