I believe Rock is the favorite to win the region, but don't underestimate Casey County. The amount of serious competition the Lady Rebels can offer Rock hinges on the return of Megan Pittman, and she has been good so far in her first two games back. Nicole Coffman continues to average 22 points and nine boards so if Pittman is able to get back to 90% of normal, the Lady Rebels could become a formidable foe. This team managed to go 14-4 without one of the best players in the region (behind Hammonds), so getting her back can't do anything but improve their chances.

Coffman had 24 to lead all scorers in the first Casey-Rock battle of the season.

Rock by 9 in an ugly game. The Lady Rocket's defense was impressive.

I think Rock will win by 10 even if Hammond does get in foul trouble. However, if Pittman does get back this year, the district/region should be interesting.

Predictions?

I am not sure on the timeline for Pittman's return. She tore an ACL, so who knows with those things? Might point out that Rock beat Clay by 9 AT CLAY. We all know 13 region teams play better at home for some reason.

Clay is apparently pretty good, I haven't seen them play. If Casey had Megan Pittman, it would be a good ballgame. Since she is sidelined, I expect Rock to win by double digits.

Can anybody in the state of Kentucky beat the Lady Rockets?

Informercial for 01-05-2011. Nicole Coffman scored 32 and had seven rebounds in Casey's 52-42 win over Taylor County on Monday night.

I will be surprised if Rockcastle does not advance at least as far as they did last year,maybe further...that has nothing to do with anything I have posted about Nicole Coffman and/or the Casey County Lady Rebels. I am not disrespecting your team, just promoting my own.

Danville is 9-2 and Pulaski is 8-5 so they probably would argue that they are quality teams and if you don't like the "infomercial on every post", don't read it. I have posted Coffman's numbers because I was called out for referring to her as one of the top players in the region before the season started.

Coffman is averaging 24.5 and 10 through nine games and has led her team to an 8-1 start. Looks like she is handling the "load" quite nicely.

Coffman had 18...she is averaging 25 points, 10+ rebounds, and about five assists through first seven games.

Station Camp, Tennessee beat them....don't have individual stats yet.

The Casey County senior joined the Lady Rebel 1000 point club in a 47-34 loss in the championship game of the Smoky Mountain Holiday Classic in Gatlinburg.

Nicole Coffman scored 28 today in the second round of the Smoky Mountain Holiday Classic. Casey is off to a 6-0 start and Coffman is averaging 26.2 points and 10 rebounds per game.

Coffman dropped 37 on Whitley tonight in a 57-43 win at Whitley. The senior is averaging 27 per game through the first four games.

I wasn't there, so I am not sure. I was impressed that they never gave up and fought back for a win with their coach sent to the locker room.

Coffman is averaging 25 a game through two games and has led an undersized team to road wins at Danville and at Pulaski. How are Fothergill, Lawrence, and Bowling doing so far?

I said arguably. Rockboost made his argument and a good one at that. Fothergill is a good player, although I wish Rockboost would say what is good about Fothergill's game. I described what I like about Coffman's game. On the other hand, Heartbreaker, Who "in reality" are the three players in the region better than Coffman? If you're going make those statements you need to back them up. I like good discussion.

Any predictions for this game and does the winner stand a chance against Somerset?

There are several keys to the Lady Rebels season in 2010/11, but the biggest one is whether or not 5'11" junior center Megan Pittman is able to return from a torn ACL which she suffered in July. Whether or not there is a silver lining to this cloud is depends on who tries to step up to fill Pittman's shoes while she recovers. Two of the leading candidates would appear to be a pair of seniors, Katy Laman and BJ Hogue. Both started at times and logged considerable minutes last season. The given for Casey this season is senior Nicole Coffman. Coffman is arguably the third best player in the region behind Pittman and Rockcastle's Sarah Hammond. Coffman is swing player who can play guard or forward and defend all five positions. She is at her best in the open court or slashing to the basket. She can step outside and hit the three and is very strong and athletic. The Lady Rebels' backcourt returns sophomore Jasmine Johnson and senior Sarah Wesley. Johnson was thrown to the wolves last season after the 09 Sweet 16 team graduated three guards, but she responded well and does an adequate job running the team. Wesley made great strides last season after being a role player during the two previous seasons. Beyond this core, Coach Randy Salyers will plug holes with very good, but unproven, young players. If these young players improve as the season goes along, Casey should be one of the top five teams in the 12th region with or without Pittman.

Breathitt cannot stay on the field with Somerset this year. The Jumpers are by far the most explosive team I have seen since I went to the state championship a few years ago. You usually don't see that level of play in AAA.
