  1. Now that is funny right there, if you were an hour closer to NKY you might have a worry!
  2. Typical response from someone who has little or no clue as to what happened, maybe they like the community in which they live, but wanted a better opportunity for their children.....horrible isn't it!
  3. You obvioulsy do not understand the bylaws that govern the NKYFL, the young men are required to play with an organization based on their residence, there are geographic boundries.
  4. The last 2-3 years...the only night they get in free is the South Kenton "night"...
  5. Because I know this thread is an off-shoot from a previous thread, I’m going to throw my two cents in here as it relates to South Kenton Youth Football and Simon Kenton High School football. To say that South Kenton is feeder program into Simon Kenton is kind of misleading. While the majority of players coming out of South Kenton to go on to play at Simon Kenton, some do go on to play at Scott and maybe one or two at Dixie. And yes, now even to other schools such as Beechwood, Holy Cross, etc. In the past, Simon Kenton has supported South Kenton by using their facilities, but even that has been regulated by the Kenton County School Board’s decision to charge fees to use them (which is another whole other topic). I do think South Kenton tries to incorporate some of Simon Kenton’s philosophies into their program. However, the coaches and staff at South Kenton run their own game plans and do so with the knowledge of the talent they have. Simon Kenton does not give any type of monetary support to South Kenton. And while the high school coach in question does speak at the annual banquet, he doesn’t come to the practices on regular basis to scope out the kids. He’s never had a parent meeting with the South Kenton parents to let them know what Simon Kenton can “offer” a student athlete. So, I can’t see where South Kenton is a feeder program. At the end of the day, I would hope that youth football programs would be used to teach the fundamentals of the game and once they get to high school, the coaches at that level will develop them into the players needed to make that program successful. That’s where the commitment lies with the feeder programs…because at the end of the day, there are just too many what-ifs involved between feeder program and high school program. And if the player’s good, he’s going to play no matter where he started.
  6. I agree that they had an outstanding 8th grade team, but you can never be sure as to how those kids will continue to develop, but one thing is sure, they have a lot to work with. I heard a rumor that one of their backs off the 8th grade team was transferring to CovCath, not sure if there is any truth to it though.
  7. SK did not develop the Stringer kid, that was the work of God and the coaches at South Kenton not getting in the way. Twenhofel, a percentage of the kids a Summit View, and South Kenton develop the young men that would typically enroll at SK. As a matter of fact the Stringer kid actually lives in the Scott district...so who was poaching who, kind of like the pot calling the kettle black, IMO.
  8. In the area of skilled players, Beechwood just bolstered their ranks, the Stringer kid from Independence is enrolled at BW for the fall semester and practicing with the team. Now if they can just find someone to block for him.....
  9. Nice backhanded compliment, not the first or second choice...the question is, is he qualified or not, and can he lead the program? Many coaches who were not the first or second choice go on to lead their teams to achieve more than they thought they were capable of. Great hire IMO, sorry, but I had to rant about the first or second choice....that is bull crap!
  10. Not sure how their O line is going to look, but I am confident that they will be big, they always are, and a player like Bir doesn't need much time, his decision making is quick and accurate.
  11. Why is there a mention of Beechwood, isn't this thread about NewCath?
  12. Doug was an outstanding person, he never met a stranger and was always quick to help those in need, my heart breaks for his family. I pray that they find comfort in the fact that he touched so many in a very positive way.
  13. Great point, having your opponenet start at their 20 on 95% of the kickoffs is huge, not sure anyone can fill the void left by Joey. A healthy Gage Erdman takes the heat off Nussbaum, and Mitch Thomas gives them another burner in the backfield, what remains to be seen is what is going to happen with the QB, not sure anyone has emerged as a clear cut favorite to lead the Tigers.
  14. Little sensitive about the "recruiting" topic, lets face it, if you have any measure of success in NKY, folks are going to make accusations. It is a good thing when your product attracts athletes, that doesnt equal recruiting.
  15. Nussbaum / Jackson will be a clash of the titans, both outstanding, hard nosed football players. IMO the line is where they lost the most, if they can develop some kids who didnt get many snaps last year, they will be hosting Mayfield come turkey holiday. They did have an outstanding freshmen team last year, but as another thread pointed out, freshmen success doesnt equal state titles, but it is a step in the right direction.
  16. "Actively Attract" sounds a lot like recruiting to me...lets just say that they have a product that people want to be a part of.
  17. My question exactly, must have spent last week under a rock not to have heard this breaking story!
  18. IMO Marksberry was fortunate enough to have Lawrence in the wings as they were trying to run the spread with Bustle, and needless to say they were having little or no success. I agree that a number of teams run a version of the spread offense, but I still contend that a great coach will tweek his offensive philosophy to expliot the skill set of the athletes he has on his roster. That may mean running a modified version of the spread, or maybe run the spread situationaly.
  19. I agree with the call that the offense remains the same no matter the athlete, although he did run a little out of the "I" backfield last year to keep their QB upright. Not sure that amounts to "change", the skill set of athletes changes every year, it is your job as a coach to adjust your scheme to the skill set you have, IMO Marksberry has done a poor job of that in the past.
  20. Good point JD, if I am not mistaken, Geoff was all state at all three sports while at Lloyd, not to mention signing what would be a multi million dollar contract when he graduated in what, 1958. Held the record for most HR's in triple A ball while in the farm system for the Cardinals, had a hard time sticking with the big team, had this guy named Musial in front of him at first.
