My son is a friend of one of the NKY Wolfpack players. My understanding is the coach let the parents AND players vote on whether they wanted to go D1 or D2. After being disappointed last year because of the weather in March and unable to participate in the April state tournament, he wanted to be sure that the kids got to do what they wanted to do. And also from what I understand, it was a close vote to go D2. The kids want a shot at winning D2 and then going D1 next year.
I guess I don’t understand what all the fuss is about...you have the Scott County Wolfpack who won D2 last year going D2 again this year and no one is making a fuss about that. This NKY Wolfpack team has never won a state tournament. Let the kids try to win one...it’s not guarantee that they’ll win. I’m a firm believer on any given day, ANY team can be beat.
And really, I can’t imagine a high school or college coach telling a kid, “Sorry you can’t play for me, your team only won a D2 AAU State tournament.” As a matter of fact, I doubt they’ll care very much what the player did at 12-years-old.
