Westsider me and you are good buddies on here so I will make a point and you can call me a meat head or something if you want too Most of the Louisville Schools have not played the best Lexington School of that season. For one there are only 5 teams in the county. Last year for example Male could have most likely beaten Henry Clay but it would be a great football game. Henry Clay had 2 or 3 special teams touchdowns on Trinity in that game which is un heard of. I honestly don't believe St. X would have beaten Henry Clay and the Trinity posters agree from the ones I have seen that last year Henry Clay was better. In 05 Male was not nearly as good as they were in 06 getting beaten out of the playoffs by John Hardin. Could that team come to Henry Clay who was very talented then with Rod Johnson who signed with WKU and Minnifield who signed with Virgina not too mention Jeter who ran a kickoff back against Trinity in the 06 game? The big thing that gets me is there is like 40 schools in Louisville. If one school in Lexington isn't better than all 40 of Louisville's schools including the private schools they get labeled as being awful. I assure you last years Henry Clay team was better than 95% of the schools in Louisville. I'm not much on labeling teams with cities. We all are 100% different from one another and do differnt work out and schemes yet since their buildings are close to one another we lump Lexington vs. Louisville together. 04 was a very poor year for Lexington, I will be the first to admit that. From top to bottom not very good football was played that year in Lexington. Scott County won the region and they couldn't beat Lexington Catholic. In 03 Dunbar was a solid football team. Gave Trinity all they could handle and many posters agree with that, and earlier in the season they beat a great 3A Mason County which had Grutza and Chris Lofton on the team. In 02 Lets face it, it was the Michael Bush vs. Brian Brohm show. No one could compete with them. In 1999 and 1998 Trinity was beaten out by a Lexington School. Talent comes and goes.

Do you think Dunbar's coaching staff is stubborn, is that what you mean? If so, in what way?

For starters, I don't think there is much of a gap between Lexington schools and Louisville schools. There is a gap with Trinity but that gap is for everyone, so it annoys me when we blanket statement Lexington schools for losing to basically only Trinity and the whole town of Louisville gets credit for that win. Trinity beat everyone in Louisville as well. As far as Dunbar's concerns, they are coming off a season of horrible breaks. Starting fullback who quit in May, starting tailback who was injured for about half of the season, starting all new kids at the skill positions on offense, and having bad break after break in close games last season. Dunbar has a new 3,000 square foot weightroom which is beautiful and as nice if not nicer than anyone in Central Kentucky. Dunbar last season had a lot of Sophmores in these skill positions and these kids are growing up. They were undefeated in Freshman football a couple of years ago and these groups of kids are becoming better and better. Some people have said Dunbar's offense was old school or too run oriented last season, well in 2003 at East Jessamine this same offense scored more regular season points than anyone if I'm not mistaken, and it was always successful. I am not trying to put down anyones opinion on here but it bothers me when I see these kids work so hard from January on and people just bash everything they do with complete ignorance on what goes on at these schools. There are schools in Lexington who do not do much with off season work outs but I assure you Dunbar is not one of them. David Hensley coached with Paul Rains and Dale Anderson and I know Trinity fans know who Dale Anderson is and I assure you Paul Rains will work you to death in the weight room. He had weightlifting as a class at Madison Central the last block of the day in the second semester and I assure you working hard was not a problem. Sometimes the breaks don't fall your way and that happend to Dunbar last year but things are on the rise.

This is why I get annoyed with these threads. There are 5 different public schools in Lexington and somehow we are suppose to come up with a universal rule to help all 5 schools? Each school has different strengths and weaknesses. If you want to say "What does Tates Creek need to impove on" that is one thing but to lump all schools together makes no sense. Henry Clay runs the Tony Franklin passing system while Tates Creek is Double Tight Power I. Go by individual basis and if you are not smart enough to know what these teams run and do in the off season do not comment on what they need to improve on. Dunbar just built a brand new 3,000 square foot weight room that they work out in three days week. I know because I'm there everyday and I drive 40 minutes to get there. No more of this stupid "work harder topics." Maybe at some of the other Lexington Schools but Dunbar better not be lumped into them.

I'll be sure to tell Jerrell Greene that since he benches 295 cleans 255 and squats 415 and he is only ending his sophmore school year that our work outs are not good enough for him.

Which school(s) are you talking about? Dunbar, Tates Creek, Lafayette, Henry Clay or Bryan Station?

Dunbar played PRP in 05 and won 38-28. Which if I'm not mistaken that was the larger victory over PRP than what Male and St. X did against PRP. I'm not saying Dunbar was better than Male or St. X but they were clearly better than PRP.

I'm not here to put down the Louisville schools but more to defend the Lexington Schools. Dunbar played MBA last year and it was 14-7 in the 4th quarter and MBA's first touchdown came off of a punt return early in the game. Dunbar had a rough season but was in every game other than Henry Clay and just had a TON of bad turnovers and penalties in crucial situations which killed their record. If MBA can come to Dunbar and be in a dog fight I'm not ready to say that anyone would come down here and wipe the floor with Dunbar. You can say MBA was down this year but they beat Trinity the next week so, don't go thinking Dunbar is a bad football team. Things are getting better, a lot better.

This is the reason why other schools do not beat Trinity. They turn you against people who have nothing to do with you. Who cares if Manual could beat Henry Clay, it doesn't matter. You are fighting for second or third place. Take your anger towards the champs where it belongs.

I agree with that but Boyd got hurt towards the end of the year. There regular season finale for the district title was against the powerful Bryan Station team that made it to the finals and Boyd did not even play in that game. He tried to come back for the playoffs and I believe he threw something like 7 picks against Trinity in the second round. That was a little bit more of bad luck for Henry Clay that year. I'm not on here to defend Lexington as being a power, but what I can't understand is that this perception of Louisville being the power. It's Trinity. Trinity could move their building to Shelbyville and they would still dominate. I don't like that other teams in the county get a lot of pub for being a great football county when really only Trinity has made the noise lately. St. X should really be thanking Dixie Heights or they may not have a state title in the past few years. No one in a big playoff game has beaten Trinity in recent years and that goes for everyone not just Lexington schools. Yes Henry Clay couldn't beat them but Male didn't, St. X, Fern Creek and etc. Male had more talent than anyone in the state and lost to Trinity. Maybe the Louisville Schools should look at themselves a little bit more instead of jumping on the wagon of the Trinity success. Everyone says Henry Clay, Dunbar, Tates Creek etc. has the ability to beat Trinity and I understand that. My point is so does Manual, St. X, Male, Henderson County, PRP, Scott County, Madison Central, yet no one beats Trinity. If anyone wants a 6A state title it goes through Trinity, period.

I would like to say one thing in this thread and everyone can take for what its worth. Louisville has not dominated 4A football in recent years. It is one school, Trinity. It's not PRP, Male, Manual, St. X, Fern Creek etc. It gets a little old hearing how good Louisville teams are when in fact it is one school. Trinity Trinity is better than everyone and until everyone around here gets tired of Trinity claiming the entire town of Louisville we will continue to see the Rocks beat everyone. It should be everyone to knock off the champs but somehow its Louisville vs. Lexington. It's not Public vs. Private, its not Lexington vs. Louisville it should be everyone to knock off the champs which is Trinity. I could really care less about what zipcode your school building is in.

If I counted this right there will only be 4 teams that do not make the playoffs next year and 2 of them are in the same district.

Didn't two years earlier Highlands beat Male when Male won the state titile in 1998?

In 2007 Henry Clay returns most of their starters except for their two big guns in Jeter and Minnifiled which was like 60% of their offense. Honestly if Henry Clay played St. X last year the winner would depend on where the game was played. Henry Clay was pretty average off of turf. The Clark County and Bell County games showed that. But if they were on turf them or Male was the fastest team in the state. I think Henry Clay could beat St. X at home. Henry Clay would score about 31 and I don't know if St. X could match that, but Henry Clay would lose to St. X on the road.

I'm guessing you mean St. X was #3 in 4A. I would agree at the start of the year but not in the playoffs. I think Henry Clay could have knocked off St. X. Henry Clay was not as good as Male and obviously not as Trinity but I think Henry Clay could have beaten St. X.

I would agree with that. One of the big reasons I brought this up is Trinity prides themselves on getting more out of their talent than anyone. I can't argue with that. When they are beating Henry Clay, St. X and Male this year I believe all three had more talent than Trinity. But MBA was different. Honestly I think Trinity had better players than MBA after watching both of them this year. MBA did to Trinity what Trinity believes they do to everyone else. 3 of the 4 years MBA I believe has given up 21pts or less to Trinity. Trinity runs a lot of motions and odd empty sets to keep defenses off balance and confused but it doesn't seem to faze MBA like it does everyone else.

I have a question for the Trinity fans or anyone I guess. Trinity pretty much rolled through Kentucky last season with the exception of Male's great team that could not beat Trinity at home in the playoffs. Not too mention Trinity's recent State Title runs. MBA beat Trinity last season and has had good success against Trinity in the last several years. I can't imagine MBA has more talent than Male, St.X and I know they don't have as much as Henry Clay. I have seen MBA as close as anyone can get and they are not that talented of a football team, good defensive line, good quarterback, nothing great anywhere was MBA last season. Yet, Trinity year in and year out is rolling through Kentucky with very little problem over very talented football teams with D1 players while MBA seems to have something on Trinity that no one in this state has. My question is what does MBA do to Trinity that no one in Kentucky has seemed to figure out yet?

You are half correct Bryan Station did win the region and go on to the finals but Tates Creek did win their region as well that year. Lexington was divided into two different regions at the time with Henry Clay and Bryan Station in a different region from Dunbar, Tates Creek and Lafayette. Bryan Station crushed Tates Creek in the final four but believe it or not Tates Creek beat Bryan Station earlier in the regular season that year, and Station never lost again till St. X

That may be right I wasn't exactly sure on what the contract was on the amount of extended days. I didn't know it was that high but it could be, I'm really not sure. Southern is one of the highest paid coaching jobs, one of the main reasons a lot of EKU assistant football coaches always try to get it, but the talent is not much so that clearly lowers the level of the job.

I don't dissagree with you in saying your example could raise a problem. But this is somewhere around .01% of the students who could fall into this problem. Maybe like one or two players a year a best. No rule is going to be perfect but if we can make a rule of keeping the kids in the county that will make a simple rule and make 99.99% happy I think it sounds ok to me.

I don't think that sounds terrible for Jefferson County as long as they let any kid in Middle School go to any high school. No one should be coming in from other counties but if someone goes to a public Middle School and wants to go to Trinity and lives in Jefferson County I don't have a problem or if the same happens from a private middle school to a High School. I don't know if this is how they will do it but it sounds good to me.

I have no idea on Manual so I'm not really saying anything for them. But if the KHSAA is trying to put a Middle School plan in this why can't the kids be given the option to go to any high school they want too if there is no district bound in the county ONLY in the same county? Would that not work? I know in Fayette County certain Middle Schools go to certain High Schools. But every now and then odd things happen. Could this not work of making a rule to keep the kids in the County from Middle School to High School for Public and Private?
