I always felt the the main goal of the middle school program was to get the players out that have not ever played football. That is a great age to start. But the middle school coaches are recruiting players that are in the NKYFL so they get better players to help their team win immediately. I think the high school coaches are better served to have as many players playing as they can. Not every kid who plays middle school or NKFYL will play varsity football. Some play baseball or basketball too. The middle schools in the end will do nothing to futher the development of the high school if they only take from the NKYFL. But if they get a bunch of kids out the never played and you have the NKYFL league then think of the double potential a high school program has coming. I like the competitiveness of the NKYFL and keep the middle schools to newer players and you will see peace and harmony when they hit freshman together.

We had a game at Boyd County in 91. After a TD we kicked off and while the ball was in the air and I was running full speed about 10 years from an opponent the lights in the stadium went out. Pitch dark! Couldn't see my hand in front of my face dark. There were a lot cheap shots going on that game and I just tried to get to my sideline without taking a lick. That was a eerie moment I will never forget.

Yes, we had an 8th grader attend at nashville at battle ground acadamy. WOW! Great camp. Sam Wyche, Kurt Gouviea were a few of the positions coaches amoung other former NFLers or D1 coaches. There were many top level talented players there. Very well organized camp and was very professional. They concentrate on precise technique. I was very impressed. You get your money's worth.

You have to ask yourself another question. Were all great coaches great football players. Truth is that they were. But by their own standards. They were the greatest they could possibly have been. They may not been the most talented player with all the awards or even played a superior level but I bet they maxed out their potential at their position and took great pride in that. This is the quality that translates into great coaching.

Refreshing to see people put their actual name behind comments. Especially when you take up for us youth coaches that just like to coach football with no political agendas. Thanks JD.

I challenge anyone to try to coach a team and remember some box at your feet. This will always be an issue as long as the game will be played. The problem will not go away. This only opens the door for some tick tack flag to change the outcome of the game.

That was a great game for the Bulldogs. Once they started attacking the baskets in the 2nd half good things started to happen. In the first half they had to much perimeter passing and waiting. This team is a no doubter for the state title if they continue to attack the basket with their athletes.

Anyone know what Holmes point avg per game? Or their highest point total. I've only seen about 7 games between last year and now. It seems they are too patient sometimes to attack the basket. Against Mason Co. in the state final Holmes seemed to slow put up shot attempts and I still see a little of that. It seemed like they should have had 60 point by half time against Harrison last night.

As a 7/8th grade football coach I think it is perfectly fine to have such games. I wish I could have offered a 7th grade player to that mix. There are some of these kids that you can tell are going to do something special when they get older. And what's wrong with trying to help that along. Allstar games and camps encourage and strengthen these upper echelon kids to handle the ability to be the best by playing with the best at your age. These experiences last a lifetime for them and they can draw on those experiences for motivation to conquer new challenges, and I don't mean just in football.

Coach lickert will have the dawgs running good in 09. He has a lot of young talent that will blossom in his system. As for the youth league, the Bengal Tigers have been around for 40 years and Holmes has always been very helpful to the program. Holmes offer camps, allow them to play on the high school field...etc. There might be rules that keep the head coaches from being too involved in youth leagues in KY. The Tigers pump plenty of players into Holmes. I was a Bengal tiger and a Holmes player. The problem at the youth level has is getting those kids out to play. The parent involvement is very poor and that is a key component to a volunteer org. Transportation is a problem. Some kids have trouble getting to games and practices on time or at all. I see many young kids that should be playing and I try to get them to play but they have no reliable transportation. If they show up at the beginning then they miss a lot of practice and eventually quit. Its a heartbreaker. If there were a bus program to offer all kids in Covington to play then you would see those big kids on the field verses in the hallways. This has been a problem for decades.
