  1. The salmon would be cold before you could drive to Indy. However, the roast will not be ready to pull before mid-morning, giving you time to drive here from most anywhere in the eastern US to help pull it off the grill. Just follow the smell of hickory and apple wood smoke. It is cold and windy here. It probably took me a dozen matches to get my charcoal starter blocks lit.
  2. Unfortunately, Popeyes, good barbecue joints, and chicken and waffle restaurants tend to be (there are exceptions) in "bad" neighborhoods (those with iron bars in the windows and doors) most of the time. A few months ago, a guy at work had a friend who was soliciting ideas for developing a corner of a busy intersection near my home and I suggested a Popeyes. I think they would do well in any neighborhood.
  3. I am getting ready to put a 7 lb. Boston butt roast on the grill to smoke overnight. My son is going to grill some salmon on a plank as soon as I sweep away the snow and light the grills.
  4. McPapa, I have never made pot roast but I have always had good results using the highly rated recipes at epicurious.com and foodnetwork.com. Here are their pot roast recipe collections: Food Network recipes Epicurious recipes
  5. I love Popeye's because it offers menu choices that most fast food joints don't have. I usually order Red Beans and Rice or one of the other Cajun selections but the chicken is also pretty good. The food is not great but Popeye's delivers a lot of good food for the money.
  6. I use both Firefox and Internet Explorer but I only use IE in the few cases that I must. Lotus Notes' web access is not fully compatible with Firefox 3, so I use IE to access my company mail from home. Otherwise, I would stay as far away from Internet Explorer as possible to avoid all of the bugs and periodic security risks. I have not used a Mac in several years, but a couple of the Notes developers who I work with will not use anything else at home - and they were longtime Windows users before getting their first Macs because of better iTunes and iPod compatibility. Most people who have used both Macs and PCs extensively prefer Macs - at least that has been my experience.
  7. Obama wants to see a two class system. The ruling or political elite class, which of course includes him, and a "middle" (call it upper if you prefer) class consisting of the poor suckers who will pay all of the expenses for the political elites. As former Soviet citizens how their "classless" society worked.
  8. I've been on a bit of a reading binge lately and read the last three Vince Flynn books, Acto of Treason, Protect and Defend, and Extreme Measures. I enjoyed all three books but decided to look switch to Sci-Fi for awhile. I read Dark Matter by S. W. Ahmed, which was not bad but contained too much fantasy for my tastes. Next, I read Old Man's War by John Scalzi and it was one of the best science fiction books that I have read. I am reading the second book in the series now, The Ghost Brigades, and I am enjoying it very much. If you like the Niven-Pournelle books, you will like Scalzi's writing.
  9. To Hamas and other like organization, every Palestinian man, woman, and child is a potential suicide bomber. A majority of Palestinians living in Gaza chose to turn over control of their government to Hamas. They are not merely innocent civilian victims.
  10. Violence has produced lasting peace in many instances. Germany and Japan are obvious examples. The allies soundly defeated both countries and the citizens of Germany and Japan accepted defeat and began working with us to build a more peaceful future. The problem in the Middle East is that we have imposed an artificial stalemate on two warring parties by demanding a halt to hostilities before there is a winner and a loser in the conflict. There will never be lasting peace as long as the Palestinian people believe that violence is working because so far they are right. Israel, at our urging, has surrendered land for an elusive peace.
  11. I believe that you are right - but if the show never aired, then they have not attacked all religions fairly. It does not really matter who censored the airing of the anti-radical Islam episode. Islamic fascists should be frequent objects of scorn and ridicule but our media lacks the courage to do the right thing.
  12. My understanding is that they have not gone after Islam, which should be the easiest major religion to attack given the substantial number of violent, imbecilic zealots who follow it.
  13. The deep misunderstanding of how our government works (or does not work) is not limited to plain, ordinary citizens. The ignorance afflicts his inner circle as well. Obama Spokesman Says 'Obama Ready to RULE on Day 1'
  14. Those of you who believe that the government can lower prices by threatening oil companies crack me up. The sharp drop in gasoline prices should have debunked these silly conspiracy theories.
  15. Our economy is entering a deep recession or a depression and the demand for gasoline has dropped. People are not optimistic about the future, so gasoline prices have plummeted. The only way Obama factors into the equation is that few people believe that the government, which has created the mess that we are in, is capable of solving the deepening crisis. Those who believe otherwise are the kind of people who would hire an arsonist to extinguish a fire.
  16. :thumb: Most employers would be very happy to retain an employee 10 years. I am sure that BCG's former employers would have liked to kept him around at least long enough to see a single class of recruits through four years.
  17. My point exactly. Based on its returning talent and performance to date, Elliot County has a much better shot of winning the state than anybody gave the '76 Edmonson County team - yet that Edmonson team did cut down the nets. Anybody who says that EC is not a legitimate contender for the state title just does not know what they are talking about.
  18. Are you old enough to remember the 1976 Edmondson County team that won the state title? If so, do you recall how shocked most of the state was when the Wildcats won the title? I am not sure of what kind of schedule Edmonson played that season but if they had played a "top 10" schedule, then I am pretty sure their state title would not have been such a shock to people outside of the county.
  19. I don't have a dog in this fight and feel no need to make a case. Most of the team that lost in the first round last season is back. EC is clearly good enough to beat any team in the state on any given night and the same can be said of several other teams. Chemistry, talent, and momentum will decide the state championship this year, just as it does every year. No team can survive having a bad game in the Sweet Sixteen against a good team but that is as true of Holmes as it is for Elliot County. Assuming that EC advances to the state tournament this season, it will be a much more experienced and battle tested team than it was a year ago.
  20. I give a slight edge to the team with the most talent and best coach.
  21. The threads will continue until EC wins the state title. When any of the Golden Triangle contenders fall short of a state title, it will be chalked up to a bad night. If EC falls short, then it will be trumpeted as proof that the team's schedule failed to prepare them for the big time. That is just how it is for eastern Kentucky teams in any sport. The attitude only changes after multiple state titles. In other words, Belfry can play a relatively weak football schedule without such criticism because they have state titles to prove the a team does not have to play a "top ten" schedule to be the top team in the state. EC returned most of its team from a year ago and has played a strong enough schedule to establish itself as a legitimate contender for its first state title. Those who think otherwise will be convinced by nothing short of a state title. Most people who can read a box score already know that Elliot County is for real.
  22. Nothing to be sorry about, Hatz. I moved north to escape the perpetual rotten economy of eastern Kentucky. However, I am afraid that those of us still willing to relocate in pursuit of good paying jobs are quickly running out of US destinations. I have been worried about the loss of manufacturing jobs and the exploding growth of the federal government for many years. I may soon be unemployed but at least I will be able to say, "I told you so" to all of those who have argued that this country does not need a manufacturing base. There is not much need for a service sector when nothing tangible is being produced. Our most efficient and productive steel companies are struggling to keep mills open. The prices of natural resources such as coal are plummeting. I don't know who Congress, Bush, and Obama think is going to be taking out five-year loans to buy new cars as long as consumer confidence continues to plunge. The owner of our company told us last week that many companies that do have orders are having trouble getting products shipped. Why? Because so many containers sitting in China and elsewhere are full of goods that suddenly were left with no American buyers, empty containers have become scarce.
  23. The Texas Association of Basketball Coaches has Duncanville #2 and Cedar Hill #3. Class 5A is the largest class in Texas and Cedar Hill's enrollment in grades 9-12 is 1,800.
  24. I was very impressed by Elliot County. They obviously had an off night shooting and most of the shots that they missed early were open looks. The Lions out rebounded the much larger Cedar Hill team and played very evenly aside from their cold outside shooting. When a team can play their worst game of the season and stay within 10 of a team having four D1 recruits, they are obviously capable of beating anybody in the state on a given night.
