  1. No, but I can't remember what is there. I believe that there was another Mexican restaurant that took Taco Tico's place (Tacos Too, maybe) and another restaurant after that one. I did not even realize that Taco Tico was still in business, but it is and their website shows that they have restaurants in the following Kentucky locations: Corbin Lexington Louisville (2 locations) Mt. Vernon Taco Tico was not the best Mexican food that I have ever had, but it was cheap and the tacos were pretty good for fast food.
  2. During my last visit home, my mother described to me how certain Johnson County families with political connections hoarded the best clothes and shoes that were donated to relieve suffering in Appalachia during the Great Depression. Everybody else, my mother included, got to pick from whatever was left.
  3. I see that you carefully excluded my Animal Farms reference and my reference to the fact that Soros is a multi-billionaire felon who has probably purchased more access to Obama and other top ranking Democrats than any man or woman on the planet. Maybe the answer you seek can be found in the omitted portion of the quote.
  4. Change, or more of the same? I wonder what kind of seat George Soros gets for his $250,000 donation? All animals are equal but some fat multi-billionaire animals with felony convictions are more equal than others.
  5. Your second paragraph pretty well summarizes my feelings. I hope that Obama abandons most of his left wing positions and is successful governing as a moderate. I do not want to see him successfully implement his left wing agenda because I believe it would be detrimental to the long term viability of this country. After a few years of $1 trillion+ deficits, increased gun regulations, fewer restrictions on abortions, more government ownership of private companies, soaring utility bills, etc., this will be a very different and a worse country in which to live.
  6. People who had left their farms behind to take factory jobs were hit very hard during the Great Depression. As you point out, farmers outside the Dust Bowl were not hit nearly as hard because the changes to their lives were less dramatic. IMO, we run the risk of a much more severe depression because of the large number of government employees and our large service sector. Few people still live on farms so a repeat of the 30s would deeply impact far more people.
  7. Bush is not my guy and if you were paying attention, you would have noticed that I condemned him for waiting so long to commute these sentences. However, there is no question that Bush has been far less sleazy than Clinton (it would have been difficult to have been more sleazy and avoided impeachment), having issued fewer than half the number of pardons and commutations as his predecessor and to my knowledge Bush has sold no pardons.
  8. If it was pure politics, as you say, Bush would have caved to the demands of conservatives and pardoned the border guards immediately. The charge of pure politics playing a role here is ridiculous. Bush has issued far fewer pardons and commutations than either Clinton or Reagan. And as far as I know, Bush has no plans to sell any pardons on his last day in office.
  9. I would show off all of the French that I remember from my one high school class but I don't think anybody would be impressed by me counting to ten.
  10. Our borders should be protected period. Intruders who do not respond to verbal orders to stop should be shot, if necessary, to prevent escape. However, as PepRock detailed, this policy should be preceded by a very aggressive informational campaign, including large signs along the border. Unlike PepRock, I would give the foreign invaders an opportunity to surrender but they should not be allowed to flee northward with impunity if they fail to follow clear instructions by the men and women charged with securing our borders and protecting our sovereign rights. Otherwise, I agree that drastic measures should be adopted to keep would-be illegal immigrants on their side of the border. I also agree that our government needs to expand its legal immigration program because this country needs legal immigrants.
  11. The Franco-American members may be offended by the new smiley.
  12. Sure. That is the reason that Bush's decision was right. There is no other reason for commuting the sentences of two border guards trying to do their job.
  13. That should be up to the private school but I doubt that private schools would be interested in allowing home schooled students join their teams. The parents of home schooled students are not compelled by the government to support private schools in their neighborhood, so they do not own a stake in those schools.
  14. I agree fully. It's not that the taxpayers' part of the tab is not excessive, it clearly is, but with Obama promising trillion dollar deficits as far as the eye can see, the inauguration cost is the least of our problems. With nit-wits Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi deciding which bills to send to Obama and a lapdog media, there is not really anybody left to hold the Democrats accountable.
  15. I am really not as concerned with the cost as I am with the apparent loss of an independent media. The celebratory reporting of the upcoming inauguration is a stark contrast to the way the same media reported Bush's inauguration. If the federal government begins bailing out the nation's largest media concerns, does anybody believe that it will not result in even more media boosterism on Obama's behalf? Of course, that will undoubtedly be followed by the media's self examination about whether they have been too soft with their coverage of Obama. The question is when will that self-examination finally occur - 2017 will be a little late, IMO.
  16. At least there is no evidence that the commutations were purchased through large political donations.
  17. I do not claim the AP as "my" source. I always assume that it sheds the worst possible light on George W. Bush and the best possible spin on its Obama stories.
  18. I can't speak for all conservatives, but IMO most conservatives view all media reports with a well deserved and healthy dose of skepticism. If the AP could have spiced up its criticism of President Bush with even higher cost estimates in 2005, it would have done so. Conversely, if the media could downplay the cost of Obama's inauguration and cited lower estimates of that cost, then that would also have been done. There is no question that Obama's inauguration will be a much more audacious and costly series of events.
  19. Border agents put their lives on the line every day and our federal government has not provided them with the support that they need. Mexican troops have been observed as deep as 40 or 50 miles within our borders with no consequences. Border agents deserve the benefit of doubt from the government that placed them in harm's way. That is the least that they should get for the risks that they take.
  20. Thanks for clarifying those points. I thought your intent was clear with your first posting. I love the phrase "explosively maim." I wonder why Jack Bauer has never used it.
  21. Find somebody else to insult, Clyde. I am finished debating this issue with you. My numbers came from the AP, a source normally trusted by liberals. Apparently liberals no longer trust the AP and I just did not get the memo. My mistake.
  22. :thumb: And that goes double for Mexican troops caught on the wrong side of the border supporting the illegal transportation of drugs.
  23. Of course more security is required for a larger crowd, although the additional cost is not necessarily directly proportional to the number of attendees. If the AP thought $40 million was too much for a Bush inaugural, then one would expect a media doing their job to be consistent and criticize the spending an estimated $160 million for an Obama inauguration. The events should have been scaled back and nothing that you say will convince me otherwise.
  24. Courts of Appeals rarely overturn jury convictions. The case should never have been prosecuted because the prosecution's star witness should never have been allowed to stay in this country a free man.
  25. Correct me if I am wrong, but the two agents were not charged or convicted of perjury. The fact that the prosecutor decided to engage in character assassination after sending these men to prison is not surprising. His decision to prosecute this case was not a popular one.
