  1. :thumb: IMO, Rush is a very humble man and I agree that people who do not listen to him on a regular basis have a difficult time seeing through his on-air shtick. He uses many of the same phrases repeatedly, knowing that they send liberals ballistic. Rush's interview of Tim Russert a few years ago was one of the best that I have heard. The mutual respect and admiration each man had for the other was palpable. Rush is not my favorite talk show host but he is unquestionably the best in his crowded, competitive profession. Idiots do not last long in talk radio. Ask Al Franken or Alec Baldwin.
  2. I am always amazed when people refer to Rush as an idiot. I understand how reasonable people can disagree with him in many, even all, areas, but do you honestly believe that Rush is not an extremely intelligent man? If so, then you may be among the millions of liberals who also voted for John Kerry, believing him to be an intellectual heavyweight.
  3. A patriotic American can certainly hope that a president fails to implement a wrong-headed agenda, for the sake of the nation. Very few people want to see their own country fail, but wanting to see Obama fail to remove abortion restrictions, force coal companies out of business, increase utility bills, add restrictions to our Second Amendment rights, and to implement a host of other liberal policies that will be with us long after Obama leaves office is not the least bit un-American. Absent a sharp reversal by Obama on a large number of policies, it is difficult to understand how any conservative can hope that Obama "succeeds," if success is defined by implementing a wide array of liberal policies. I will selectively support Obama when I agree with his decisions, which seems like a reasonable approach to me. (His plan to gradually draw down troops in Iraq and increase troops in Afghanistan is one such policy that I will be supporting.) What Rush said, aside from his intentional sound bite is really no different than what tens of millions of patriotic Americans will be doing over the next four years.
  4. Way to simply brush off the sick people who frequent these websites. I challenge you to find similar comments on Rush's website. Liberals seem to have no trouble condemning people like Rush for using hyperbole and satire in his show while turning a blind eye to the real hatred that oozes out of the many hate-filled and rumor mongering left wing sites, links to which have frequently appeared in this very forum. Rush knows that he can throw out a controversial sound bite and that it will be quoted out of context and widely repeated by the mainstream media. These sick left wing websites unwittingly provide invaluable publicity for this show because some people actually read or listen to more of his words than what gest spoon fed to rabid left wingers who frequent websites like Think Progress, the Huffington Post, MoveOn.org, and the Democratic Underground.
  5. The Dow closed down 7,944.47 points today, a loss of 4.07%. Does anybody know what the largest drop in the Dow has been on inaugural day for previous presidents?
  6. Classy website, Think Progress...the comments listed at the bottom of the article are typical of these loony left wing sites. Talk about raw hatred...
  7. I think that there is a good chance that the DOW will dip below 8,000 before rallying and finishing slightly higher.
  8. I never liked Pete Rose as a player, as a coach, or as a human being - but he has the numbers necessary to be in the Hall of Fame and he belongs there. Unless there is some evidence that Rose bet against his team as a player, I see no reason for keeping him out of the HOF. I see many reasons for keeping the guys out who have been caught cheating through steroid use.
  9. So, if all home schooled kids in Kentucky were enrolled in public schools, where would the extra money come from to absorb those students? Kentucky does not print money so either taxes would be raised or the size of classes and the workload on teachers and staff would increase.
  10. If you have never eaten Taco Tico food, please do not spend a lot of time looking for one of their restaurants on my account. It's decent food, but it may be the only place around where a "Sancho" is a menu item. Somebody apparently just picked a Mexican sounding word from a dictionary for that one. But the food is cheap and I do not recall ever getting sick eating it as a college student. The address listed on the Taco Tico website for Lexington is 1483 Boardwalk (North Park).
  11. You have mischaracterized what I have said in this thread about confiscation. I have explicitly and repeatedly explained that outright confiscation is not necessary in order for the anti-gun nuts to accomplish their goals. Onerous regulations and punitive tax rates, imposed in conjunction with a liberal Supreme Court, will be almost as effective at reducing legal gun ownership rates. A 500 percent increase in the federal excise tax on ammunition, which President Obama proposed in 1999, would be a good start. Gun control nuts do not have the political support to repeal the Second Amendment, so they will continue to harrass gun owners in the courts and legislative bodies across the country.
  12. Assume whatever you want. Assume that prosecutors tell the whole truth and nothing but the truth when speaking in front of a camera. Most of us know better.
  13. I had not planned on sending you a PM. The attempted murder charge is relevant because it demonstrates the poor judgment by the prosecutor and the extent to which he was willing to go to send these men to jail. Bush made the right decision here and nothing else is really relevant. Upon their release, these men will have a felony record and will have served two years in a federal prison isolated other prisoners.
  14. Is it over yet? I am not the type to rubber neck when there is a traffic accident and I do not rush to see a train wreck.
  15. I will try to remember that prosecutors never spin the facts of a case when speaking publicly about them. Especially in a case where they have encountered heavy criticism of their decisions. :notworthy:
  16. The story that you posted was told by the prosecutor - not exactly a disinterested party in this case.
  17. Who said they were heroes? A wide gulf separates heroes and those unfairly charged with attempted murder.
  18. And you believe that Aldrete, the Mexican drug thug, was a credible witness why? Is it not unusual for the federal government to entice a Mexican criminal to return to the US in exchange for immunity to testify against a border agent? How often has this ever happened, since you believe that this was not an unusual occurrance. See below. What were you saying about ignoring facts and being misleading? Who is right about the rules on pursuing a suspect, you or the prosecutor? Who knows? Do you have any other statements by the prosecutor that you wish to share? Nobody has claimed that the border agents acted properly in this case. However, charging them with attempted murder and granting a convicted Mexican drug dealer immunity in this case in exchange for his tainted testimony was not justified. If their goal had been to kill this guy, they would have simply finished him off before he crossed the river instead of shooting him in the rear end. This was a clear case of an overzealous prosecutor not recognizing the real bad guy from the good (or at least much better) guys. I am happy to know that most jurors are unwilling to take the prosecution's charges while dismissing the defense's case the way that you are doing. Thank God for the common sense displayed in this case by the jurors in finding the defendants in this case not guilty of attempted murder. It is too bad the jurors were not fully informed about the character of the government's star witness, Senior Aldrete-Davila.
  19. 1. Will the Dow close over or under 8,000 today? 2. If the Dow closes sharply down, will the media dare link the drop to Obama's inauguration? 3. If the market rallies after the inauguration ceremony, will the media credit Obama with the surge?
  20. The drug dealer made a safe getaway to a van that was awaiting him on the Mexican side of the border. He was enticed to return to the US to testify against Compean and Ramos by the grant of immunity from prosecution for his crimes. The only real mistake the agents made was not immobilizing the drug trafficker (whose van was carrying 743 pounds of marijuana) further to prevent his escape. No prosecution was imminent because the "scumbag" escaped. The border agents' actions had nothing to do with the government's failure to prosecute Osvaldo Aldrete-Davila because he was never apprehended in the first place. Current regulations require border agents to get permission from their superiors before pursuing a suspect. No wonder not many are caught. See above. This seems to be a clear cut case of a pot calling a kettle black.
  21. Scooter Libby should be pardoned, IMO. He was also the victim of a prosecution that should never have taken place. Fitzgerald already had the information that he was hired to discover and continued to compel testimony from people who were not involved in the alleged leak.
  22. What is "telling" is that you insist on simply regurgitating the prosecutor's claims in the case. The prosecutor relied on the testimony of a big-time Mexican drug dealer over the words of two US border agents who deserved the benefit of doubt. Releasing these two men is the right thing to do because the president has exercised his lawful right to commute their sentences. There is no need to rehash a trial that should never had taken place. The border guards will soon be free and Republicans and even some Democrats worked hard to persuade Bush to commute their sentences. Mexican drug lords and the Mexican military should stay on their side of the border. If they don't, then they should be shot dead unless they refuse to surrender peacefully when confronted by US law enforcement officials.
  23. The most disappointing thing to me about the campaign that resulted in the election of Obama has been the total disregard by liberals of the type of characters that Obama has surrounded himself with. If you cannot see any problem with Obama accepting millions of dollars worth of direct and indirect financial support from a low-life like George Soros, who was previously convicted of insider trading, and who made billions in currency speculation, I doubt that Obama will be able to do much wrong at all in your eyes in the next four years. Given Soros' history as a currency speculator and his manipulation of the British pound and his close association with Obama, every American should be concerned about the access that Soros has bought to Obama. Our current economic crisis makes Obama's acceptance of large sums of donations from a man who undoubtedly has a vested interest in the fate of the dollar even more disturbing. The question is, has Soros placed his bets on the dollar collapsing or on a US economic recovery?
  24. The president's power to pardon and commute sentences based on the facts as he sees them is almost absolute. These guys should be freed because it is the right thing and the lawful thing to do. It is a shame that they will probably remain behind bars in solitary confinement until March. If Bush is expecting a hug and a heartfelt thank you from these guys, then he may be disappointed.
