  1. This discussion was generated from a comment about NDA sending their JV team to play Holmes to avoid a blow out...I was presenting another side to the issue...yes, my experience is with Volleyball but no matter what sport you are talking about the problem is the same...clearly, you are unable to grasp the entire picture as you keep obsessing about who should know the rules...the fact is nobody even considers the issue until it is too late which is why the AD should not allow the situation to occur in the first place...look at the big picture and do the responsible thing... Now, I'll not bother you soccer people anymore...good day
  2. Firstly, I applaud those coaches for informing the players of the rule...I can tell you that that never happened in the volleyball situation...secondly, that is an entirely different situation...JV players being brought up to dress Varsity are just a select group of players who probably don't have any chance of being cut from Varsity as Juniors...what I am opposed to is the practice of sending an entire JV or in my daughters case the entire Freshman team to play a Varsity match...the varsity coach was not there...it was treated as a Freshman match on their schedule but it was the Varsity team from Holmes that they played...only 10-12 players are kept for the Varsity team so everyone knows that not every player on the JV and Freshman teams is going to make Varsity when they are Juniors...some of them are definitely going to be cut...so to jeopardize the entire team is irresponsible...I suspect that those players were informed because this became an issue a few years back but again it's not the better players that are affected...its the others who aren't called up to varsity but just happen to be on the "Team" that is sent to play the match...even if they don't get in the game they are on the bench and on the roster for that game and that makes them ineligible to play ANY SPORT at another school without sitting out a year...do you know if NDA is still sending entire JV or Freshman teams to play Varsity matches? My Daughter's Senior year the volleyball program stopped sending JV or Frosh to play Holmes but I'm not sure if that is still the case...
  3. I am offended by your response... It is absolutely the AD's responsibility to know the rules...there is no way a Freshman or Soph player is going to think that she shouldn't play a match because she might not make it as a Junior...the players I was referring to were Volleyball players and they were very nice girls and good players...there are a limited number of spots on a team and at NDA there are more good players than spots...not every player who is cut wants to transfer but that option should not be taken away just because a Varsity coach doesn't want to play a bad team...I am not trying to slam Notre Dame...I just want to raise awareness to the consequences of sending Freshman and JV teams to play matches that are considered to be a waste of time for the Varsity team...for the record...My daughter played 4 years at NDA and was not one of the unfortunate players to be cut...but...she did play the Varsity match against Holmes as a Freshman on the Freshman team and as a Sooh on the JV team...if she had been cut as a Junior she would have been torn about what to do but I think she would have wanted to transfer and keep playing...she is now playing D I volleyball on full scholarship so you cannot discount the importance of this issue...try to be open minded and think of it from everyone's perspective before jumping all over me for making a good point!
  4. Just because you wouldn't opt to change schools for athletics doesn't mean it wouldn't be important for another student...and parents and players DON'T all know this rule or even think about it...they go to the game as scheduled unknowing of the possible consequences...there are plenty of top athletes who get cut at NDA who can and do go on to play in college...it would be a shame if a player could not pursue this goal because the Varsity coach didn't want to play a team and sent the JV instead...I know of three players who transferred after being cut...one to Villa Madonna and two to Holy Cross...this issue was brought up with the two who transferred to Holy Cross...none of them gave up strong academics or the faith based value system when they transferred and they did go on to have fun playing the sport they loved and earned college scholarships in their sport...there are plenty of athletes at NDA who find other activities at NDA when they get cut from a sport because they wouldn't consider leaving but the administration should not assume that this is the case with all of their athletes...the practice of sending JV and Freshman teams to play Varsity matches should be banned as a matter of policy...suck it up and play the game and leave the underclassmen's eligibility intact...or...have a no cut policy for Juniors who did the Varsity a favor the year before....don't ruin their eligibilty and then cut them from the team!

  6. NDA needs to stop sending their JV and Freshman teams to play Varsity games...some of those girls won't make the Varsity team as Juniors at NDA and then they can't transfer to another school without sitting out a year because they have played a Varsity game...the AD knows this and should not be doing it anymore...it's a very short sighted thing to do! :irked:
  7. When and where is the NCC VS NDA SCRIMMAGE?
  8. My niece is playing in the state tournament in Kansas and they have pool play the first day followed by bracket play the next....if KY took 2 teams from each region they could have 8 pools of 4 teams each (2 1st place and 2 2nd place in each pool)....this would allow each team to have 3 guaranteed matches as opposed to traveling across the state only to lose in the first round and be sent home...the top two teams from each pool would advance to bracket play and then it can be one and out from that point...with this format, each region would be well represented at the state tournament with guaranteed 3 matches and the final 8 teams would be the best teams in the state...just an idea!
  9. Are they selling pink t-shirts for this game and if so how do you get one?
  10. Mercy and Assumption met in the Semi-Final last year because they were on the same side of the bracket
  11. I mentioned KIVA because you asked about KIVA and OVVC....the answer is...I don't know...I do know that KIVA operated under a different name originally so the time that the KIVA website states is a little midleading...have a good day
  12. Ron's 700th win came last weekend in the Muncie Tournament...I'm not sure how long he has coached at AHS but I know this record is just for Assumption...it does not include KIVA wins...here is an article about last night's game and it mentions the record http://www.courier-journal.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080910/SPORTS05/809100846/1031
  13. Assumption HS defeated Mercy Academy 3-1 (25-22, 23-25, 25-22, 25-22) tonight giving Ron Kordes his 700th win at Assumption High School His record is 700-40 (according to a former AHS player) :dancingpa
  14. I'm not sure why you are so defensive. I am merely expressing my opinion about the differences in Louisville and NKY (not Cincinnati) volleyball. I have nothing to lose or gain by this conversation but you might. Notre Dame does not live up to its potential because there is no comprehensive program in place for player development. My comment about St. Henry was not intended to compare numbers of championships. I was pointing out that St. Henry's coach gets the most out of her players making them the best they can be as did Matt Long at Beechwood. NDA should be dominant in the state with the talent they have but they don't develop it to its full potential. So...turn a blind eye and keep hoping and I won't give my opinion anymore.
  15. I disagree with the argument that Louisville is dominant because of a larger population to draw from. I believe if you look at pure natural talent and athleticism, there is little difference between the Louisville and Northern KY players with the exception of outliers like Kaitlyn James. Historically, the Louisville programs have not had tall teams and NKY does have tall teams. Therefore, the difference is in the development of the athletes. I think St. Henry does a nice job of getting the best out of their players. In contrast, I think NDA relies on the best players showing up at tryouts but they do little to develop them. Assumption, Sacred Heart and Mercy also rely on the clubs to develop athletes but then they continue the same level of training and learning during the High School season. When the next club season begins they are ready to move on to a higher level whereas, NKY players have regressed and have to play catch up to attain their previous level of play. NKY needs to recruit and retain coaches who have experienced high level volleyball and can develop the athletes to that level. Hindsight is 20/20! Just my opinion.
  16. Just calling it the way I've experienced it....the difference between Louisville VB and NKY VB are like night and day in every aspect....I would love to see a NKY team beat a Louisville team but it will take major changes in the system to make it happen.
  17. Louisville volleyball is played at a much higher level than NKY...they are successful because they receive high level coaching YEAR ROUND...they are continually improving as opposed to NKY players who only improve during the club season...the Louisville players have a very sophisticated understanding of the game...also, they are very team oriented...the entire volleyball community is supportive of each and every player...selfless volleyball is successful volleyball...until the ELITISTS in NKY learn this they will continue to be second best.
  18. New locker rooms, weight room, air conditioning and MATT LONG all in one season?...wow...NDA is making huge improvements in a hurry!
  19. Just looking at the scores from tonight's matches it looks like St. Henry gave Louisville Mercy Academy all they could handle...although they lost in 3, the scores indicate a close match against the top rated team in the state...27-25, 25-21, 25-22...watch out for the Crusaders!
  20. Good Luck to all of the teams this fall. Caitlyn, I hope you are back on the court soon--I know Morehead is counting on you! PS: Be careful with those celebratory leaps of joy! :jump: Go Pandas!
  21. Talent is never a question at Notre Dame. Year in and year out, the majority of the better athletes always go there. I would hate to see an accomplished player miss her Senior season due to injury and you can never discount the value of Senior leadership.
  22. How is Notre Dame shaping up this year? Is their setter back from her ACL surgery? It would be a shame if she doesn't get to lead that team her senior year.
