If anyone is looking for something to do Saturday. ND is playing Louisville Mercy this Saturday at NKU. I believe the varsity match is scheduled for 12:30.

I expect Notre Dame will give Mercy all that they can handle and would not be at all surprised with a hard fought Panda victory.

The last I heard the game was at Regents, even though this is a big game for the Pandas, I don't think they could fill the new facility : ) This is also the Grade School game where the younger girls get in free and have the opportunity to watch a great game. GO PANDAS!!!!!:dancingpa

Are the Pandas healthy right now? I know Mercy has at least one injury at the moment, but they handled Manual a little easier than I expected last night.

First I will reply to the site and then give my thoughts on the match.

 

I don't think you'll ever see anything as far as volleyball goes in THE BANK of Kentucky Center except for MAYBE two cases. 1) the KHSAA State tournament OR 2) NKU making it to the NCAA DII Elite Eight (the Elite Eight never has a scheduled site until after the 8 participants are decided and then one of those 8 would be the host school.....this might cause it to not be in the BOKC since you can't intentionally hold those dates just in case they might make it there).

 

Now on to the match itself. I honestly didn't think either team that up to their capabilities, especially Mercy. There were a couple girls for each team that I was REALLY impressed with. Two were Mercy's outside hitters and the other two were a back row player and an OH for NDA (Bree Popham was the DS....not sure on any of the other names). All three outsides that I was impressed with have loads of talent and were smashing the ball better than some college teams that I've seen so far this year. NDA did have a really tall middle that played okay but looked like she was a little tentative at the net.....she is really lanky and looked like she was still getting used to her body (by this I'm meaning that it looked like she might have grown a little and is still adjusting to that growth)....I hope this makes sense. If not, I'll try to explain better.

 

All in all, it was a GREAT atmosphere for a regular season non-tournament match. Both schools had very vocal fans and they came out in numbers. I was especially impressed with the number of fans that came up from Louisville to watch Mercy play.

 

There are two more dates of volleyball that are scheduled to be in Regents Hall so I hope things can be just as exciting as they were this afternoon.

Sooo...who won and what were the scores?

I didn't begin watching until the beginning of the second set so I don't know exactly the number of sets won by each team but Mercy won the match. They either won 3-0 or 2-1 depending on if it was scheduled for a best-of-5 or best-of-3.

Wasnt there but I heard Mercy dominated - 25/12 25/15 somewhere in that range . Last game was closer but Mercy won.

Most are. The current Junior class has a great core of athletes who have played together since grade school at St. Pius AND several years on the same club team. (Schellhaus, Robinson, Wulfeck and Barton-all in the starting line up). Senior setter Jenna Schreiver also started out at St. Pius. Dont know about the others.

I really thought this match would be tighter. St. Henry played Mercy much closer early this season.
