This game was not on the schedule. Both teams had cancellations by their scheduled opponents, so they got together and decided to play at Greenup Co. Drew Scaggs threw another complete game for the Muskies, while Eric Craft belted another homer. Nice job guys! :ylsuper:

That's 2 tourneys in a row that the Muskies have had 3 pitchers throw complete games! A couple of weeks ago in Louisville and again this week in Lexington. Heineman went all 6 against Ballard, Greenslate went the distance against Lafayette, and Hardin threw a complete game against St. Henry. Grats to all 3. Great job of pitching! Keep it up. :thumb:

Agree 100%! You HAVE to throw your best the first game. Win the first and you move on to Regionals even if you loose the second. But loose the first one, and you listen to the radio for the rest of the post season. You can always pull your #1 after 2 or 3 innings if you get a nice lead.

Good game for the Muskies, but neither team threw their top 2 pitchers.

Even though Craft blasted the first pitch of the game out of the park, and Heineman followed three batters later with one of his own, the best thing about this win was the defense. GC had 3 double plays in the game. That equalled their entire 2007 output. They also had two DP's in Louisville over the weekend. Also, Rice made two catches you wouldn't see as good as on Sports Center. For a team that has had a little trouble in the defensive department in the past, this a great time to be picking that up. Yeah, they have great bats. But couple that with good defense and the pitching they have, and this team could go a long way into the playoffs. :thumb:

Let's just hope they don't draw each other in the first game of the district tourney. That would really be a travesty. That's why not seeding is complete crap. :mad:

Heineman was dominant, beating Taylor Co. 3-0 Friday night. He had 14 K's. Greenslate beat Desales Saturday. Martin beat Southern, the home team, also on Saturday. Sorry. I'm not sure about the last two games' scores or any stats. I wasn't able to pick them up on the radio. The scores were something like 11-3 and 8-2, I believe.

In my opinion, there are only three potential champions in the 16th. Greenup is the favorite, followed closely by Boyd and East Carter. I really can't see any big upsets to keep one of these three teams from winning it. My personal pick is that Greenup will repeat as the 16th champs. Their bats can make up for a lot of mistakes. Also, after the pitching performances this past weekend in Louisville, their pithching is really coming around. GC played three games in Lousiville using a total of three pitchers. Heineman, Greenslate, and Martin ALL threw complete games, giving the Muskies 3 convincing victories. Well done guys. :ylsuper:

What about Greenup Co? Their coach quit in the middle of the season last year. Are they going to let Smith keep it or go out for another one? Hasn't worked too well the last couple of times. Anyone heard anything on this?

Logan has power, but Eric Craft is a better hitter all around. He is like Martin from Raceland. He has power, can bunt, and hits for average. If the game is on the line, I want Craft at the plate.

Yeah. It didn't matter who GC sent to the plate, it was a futile effort. Well done to the kids who threw the no-no. :flame:

Yes, Tates Creek tourney. Heineman was hit a bit in the early going, but settled down later on. He pitched a nice 7 innings. Bunting at in-opportune times. Twice the GC players bunted with two strikes. Also, bunting Craft, after a homerun that I believe tied the game, was questionable. Not sure why the GC coaches did what they did. But, I guess that's why they coach, and I don't. :thumb:

From what I saw, the biggest errors that were committed by GC were from the coaches sending players with no chance of being safe. They got lucky and had one score from a great slide that probably ended up being the game winner.

I heard 6 errors. Maybe just a bad game? Ashland has been a solid defensive team in the past. Whatever the case, GO MUSKIES! :ylsuper:

Tyler Heineman from Greenup Co. is one of the best. He has something like 45 K's in 21 innings so far this year. DOMINANT!

Sorry Alum97, I gotta disagree with you on this one. If either of these teams throw ANY of their studs, the coaches are idiots. There is no such thing as a must win game at this time of year, especially when the regular season doesn't mean jack other than for bragging rights. And, bragging during the regular season doesn't mean crap when you are sitting at home reading the newspaper for post-season scores.

Yeah. Lewis started out with some hot bats, getting several hits and scoring 4 in the first inning. But Greenup's starting pitcher, Zack James, found the groove and pitched a solid couple of innings thereafter. Zack Smith came in to finish the game and also pitched well. Offensively, Eric Craft had a great game going 4-5, and LT Rice added his first homer of the year to help the cause. By the way, if you live in the Greenup area and can't make it to the game, you can listen to Greenup Co. baseball on WLGC 1520AM. :thumb:

Exactly right. Neither team will see the other's top couple of pitchers. We won't know who the better of these two teams are until/if they meet in the post season. However, it still should be a great game. Greenup has some super bats in their lineup. But, their defense has been suspect so far this season. Without the stud pitchers, I'll give the nod to Greenup's bats. GC 7 BC 4

I have done this in the past myself. I think this is a much better option than having your players K on purpose. Most players need to work on their bunting skills anyway and don't usually get any game experience at it. Bunting in BP is a lot different than in game situations. This would have been the perfect opportunity to get some bunting work in, especially for those 3-5 hitters that don't get that bunting opportunity very often. Even a clean-up power house needs to be able to lay the ball down at times.

Wow, this thread got off topic! :lol: First of all, I said ranting about, not at. He wasn't ranting at them because they were still in the game when he left. Second of all, quite obviously, you were not paying attention to the dugout when he left the game. He did, in fact, do everything I said and was quite vocal about it. Logan runs the game well. However, being a leader isn't just giving signals in front of the plate and telling your team you have two outs or a force at third. Being a leader is picking your team up when they are down. It's being emotional in a positive way. It's helping your team learn from an experience like the Apollo game. I'm not trying to take anything away from Logan. The kid is a solid catcher and can hit with the best. He will be a good D1 catcher in a couple of years. I was just surprised by his actions. Coupon, I hope you are right. I hope his team will forget about this. I'm still guessing it'll be a while.

I can say it because I saw the lack of leadership he showed in the Apollo game. Ranting about his pitchers. Throwing his equipment. Asking to be taken out when times got tough. It's easy to be a leader when things are going well. I'm sure he was tired, but how many double-headers has he caught that took a lot longer than that inning? He lost a lot of respect from his teammates that game. He may gain that back over time, but it will take a while. If you were not there, you have no clue. Ask around. If you were there, you are blind.

You are right. I'm sorry. It was the top, becasue Greenup went down 1-2-3 in the bottom.

Zack Reed from Greenup needs to be added to this list. Greenup has a GREAT class of sophomores. There are a few more that could be added to this list at a later date...Hardin, Staten and Rice. One of these guys needs to step and be a leader. After the Apollo game, I don't think Greenup has one any longer.

I could be wrong, but I thought the final score was 12-5. Craft came in with runners on 1st and 2nd and two outs in the bottom of the 7th. At that point, I think Greenup was up 5-0. Craft gave up hit after hit. After 5 or 6 Apollo runs, Reed came in, and it was more of the same. Rice finally came in with the score 11-5, and eventually, after a base hit and a passed ball that scored another run, got the last Apollo out. If I hadn't been there to see the end, I would have never believed it. 12 runs with 2 outs in the bottom of the 7th. Well done Apollo.
