'09 9th Region Top 5
I have to agree with DD. Obviously, Maile is a decent player or else he wouldn't have scouts looking at him, but super star? I had to have my buddy point out which one he was the first time I saw him play. Usually the super star stands out on the team. I think sometimes one player gets way too much recognition and the other guys fall in the shadows. I may have even saw him play against Ryle and I believe Etscheid struck him out... definitely didn't pitch around him. Maybe a great player, not a super star. TOG, what offers has he had?

Erlanger Lions
First off, I have nothing against the Bluegrass organization. IMO it's just not comparable to Midland or KBC. Saying Bluegrass isn't that far behind Midland is a joke, no offense. We'll just agree to disagree on that matter. I'm not disputing the fact there are good players on teams other than the Colonels. I'm just saying the Colonels are the best team their age group. If you want to play college and learn fundamental ball to prepare you, in this area the best choice is the Colonels. It's not always about the record, sometimes it's more about how much the kids are develping and learning in order to play at the next level.

Erlanger Lions
So which team is better between these two? NEITHER. That's b/c nky doesn't have the sound baseball teams other areas have. There is no Midland or Kentucky Baseball Club of NKY. There are a lot of teams with split talent. You're not going to send any one of these 15U teams down to a major tournament and win. No nky team is made of the "best" players around here until you get to the Colonels. It'd be nice in the future to have younger age groups of the Colonels and that's what the Erlanger Lions seemed to be before... a step in the right direction for nky. But now this year with the switch to Bluegrass Lions, a step back. Until nky has an organization like Midland or KBC, you're not going to find nky high schools repeatedly going to state.

Erlanger Lions
I agree. However, that still doesn't take away the fact that there are a couple teams in the same age group that are better. If you take the best kids off the Lions and best kids from these other teams, you could have a great team. That seems to be the problem with nky baseball... a lot of talent but all on different teams.

Baseball Tryouts??

Erlanger Lions
Not sure exactly what you are implying  coachg is correct as far as not being able to compare accurately. But even next year if they stay together and are the 16u team I still think there are a couple teams now (15u) and next year (16u) that are better than them. The Lions used to be like the feeder to the Colonels and I don't see that being the case next year. Just saying the reputation as being the top team is no longer true.

Erlanger Lions
I think they are called Bluegrass Lions now and I have heard the team isn't as strong as the years before when they were under the name Erlanger Lions.

Top incoming Fr.
Started as an 8th grader on the Freshman team. Will be interested to see if he gets Varsity time this year. Great kid and very strong!

Best freshmen in NKY?
I think Tyler Sexton of Dixie is going to be one of the best pictchers to watch in the upcoming years. I was definitely impressed with his arm.

Ryle 12 Simon Kenton 1
It must have been this "little league or softball back stop" that caused Campbell County to be on the verge of getting run ruled, right? And Ryle takes care of the field they have very well. No one said it's the best field, but they do take care of it. Which would be the reason that game had to be switched FROM Campbell County TO Ryle.

Boone Co 16 Ryle 7
I believe Coach Warner met with a lot of kids and their parents, so lets not try to make this sound like something it isn't From all the posts it looks like this kid has a big target on his back with all the transferring/not transferring and reasons why he's playing up rumors. Bottom line, he's an excellent athlete with a promising future in athletics, don't take that away from him. His parents never threatened coaches and his reasons for transferring never had to do with playing time or positions. He's a great kid and fun to watch! Can't wait to see where his talent takes him :thumb:

Boone Co 16 Ryle 7
Sounds like you're implying they moved him up only to keep him from transferring? Think this boy, as well as Carney, deserved to play Varsity as much or maybe more than the ones currently on the roster. From what I hear, if you didn't know these two were underclassmen, you would never know they were brought up from JV. Think those Juniors and Seniors better be worried about keeping their spots

Upcoming sophmores
I don't have any kids in high school yet but I live in the Ryle district so I'm always interested to learn what is going on since this is where my kids would go. Although Friedel played QB in peewee from what I understand from people that have coached him, he always wanted to play RB. I believe playing QB at CCH is not where he would end up unless placed there by coaches. CCH had a wonderful freshman QB, Timmerman, that I would say matches up to Conner Hempel very well! Second, to say he "reluctantly" played tailback is ridiculous. He broke his collar bone at a JV game when he was moved up. I highly doubt he expected to play QB on JV, nor would he have wanted to. From what I understand, the reason Josh and numerous other players have quit the Ryle team has to do with the head coach. One player certainly does not make the team, but 20 some players certainly helps.

Upcoming sophmores
I don't know anything about this boy transferring but I do know it will be a huge loss to Ryle. I have heard that a lot of kids have been quitting the football team there and was wondering if anyone knows the reason? :confused:From what I understand some NOT so positive things have been going on that have caused numbers in the double digits of kids to quit. Ryle better make some huge changes or they're going to find themselves without a winning football program.

Top 5 JV & Freshman in NKY
Just curious....what sophomores should play before these two kids?? The kids I see standing out aren't sophomores.

Top 5 JV & Freshman in NKY
You are correct, Ryle had a very good team last year. Ryle also played a poor game against Dunbar in big part because of lack of experience. Which is my point saying Freshmen and Sophomores need more experience playing on the Varsity level if Ryle is to ever win a State Championship and have good teams year after year. I was not trying to put down Ryle's coach as he may be a great one. All I was saying is that although it may sound respectable to play people because of "seniority", it is really hurting those who could potentially play at the D1 level. Again, it goes back to experience. I don't know whether or not those two deserve to play Varsity right now. I was just saying I see those two being better than any Sophomore on that team.

It's about time someone gives Harrison County some competition

Top 5 JV & Freshman in NKY
There are many sophomores better than Hempel and Freidel???? This thinking is the reason Ryle is never very good in baseball. If this coach was smart and not worried about what other people thought, these two kids would be starting on varsity right now. And Ryle would win more down the road.
