Well, for argument's sake, Mount was a 6'3 guard who didn't get all that many points in the paint. He averaged 35 ppg his Senior year, so there weren't too many nights he wasn't defended all over half-court. And there weren't too many nights he "got 22 instead of 37." (Sorry; I'm sure no one has guessed I'm a Purdue fan who grew up during that era. )

A computer program put on Rick Mount's Big 10 record 61 point game vs. Iowa in 1970 showed that he would have had 74 with the three-point line. It's true: "guesstimating" shot distances tends to get legendary. I think most broadcasters got a little more accurate in their play-by-play when we had the 3-point line to use as a judge for shot distance.

If you do that, you might have to differentiate between guys who played for bigtime programs and those from small schools. As a rule, guys with lotsa talent played earlier/more at small schools.

Good point BigV. And, considering that he was a phenomenal rebounder, just having him be that far from the basket would have given the other team a better shot at victory.

If anyone wants to contact the KHSAA, Darel Carrier's playing career covered five years: 1956-1960...as per adding up the points and years from the Park City Daily News (the Bowling Green newspaper.) And his first name does have just one "r." His brother Harel was also a good high school player at Bristow (now Warren East.)

He apparently didn't miss the list by much. Richie played (but didn't start) as an 8th grader. His scoring averages, starting with his freshman year, were 14, 18, 23 and 26. Multiply that by the number of games Clay County played each year and you get approximately 2,825 points for the final four years.

The Maroons should be quite a bit better when they get their football players back, but 31 points.... Whew; that's a whuppin'. Matt Beshear has been 18-13 and then 19-10 in his first two seasons as head coach...following Marty Cline's 23-9 finale in 2012.

Not sure why Talbert Turner's seasons aren't listed. They were 1979-1984 according to 3. All-time basketball records for some 95 schools

Union County? I love the people, loved doing games there, but the region? Last time it wasn't at either Hopkinsville or Madisonville, was 1968...at old Henderson City High. Union hosted in 1967...its second year in the 2nd Region...after moving from the 3rd. On the other hand, the last time Union County hosted the region, the champion also won the state tournament. (I would be willing to post the audio of the last few seconds of that state final. It's in my files...not on YouTube. Any way to do that?)

I can't remember being this surprised at a playoff score. Hats off to a "relatively" new program. Graves County opened in 1985, and none of the 6 schools that made up the consolidation had played football. To start from scratch...and to have to battle Mayfield to get attention for its football program...that's coming a long way, baby. Congratulations!
