  1. Corbin Redhounds: Congratulations on a great season, don't let the last game taint what, years from now, will be cherished memories. You along with Bell County, Knox Central, Whitley and Williamsburg made all of Southeastern Kentucky Proud. Corbin Fans, Be proud of your boys, don't qustion, just be glad you have the guys in place to take Corbin to these December games. Again, Cangrats....and remember Football season is only 7 1/2 months away, time to go to work.
  2. The Colonels are already looking forward to coming to YOUR house Next Year!! Would it be great if this could develop into a nice rivalry!!
  3. Great Win for Highlands, I was very impressed with the Bluebirds. They are very coached and execute. I thought that when the Colonels seniors who were taking their "Final Lap" passed the Bluebird players and supporters still on the field, the showed respect to the Colonel players and offered high fives and some in the stands were clapping. That showed class, and I heard more than one person comment on it. Good Luck next week in Louisville, I will be pulling for the Bluebirds
  4. Us ole boys from the south have to stick together....GO REDHOUNDS!!!!!!
  5. Its game and day and schedule and this and that all amount to nothing now. Its time to play... To all the Highlands fans: Have a safe trip and look forward to seeing all of you cheering on your team. To all the Whitley fans: Lets get there early, and cheer loud and support our team as the Colonels continue to make history. NOW, LETS GET IT ON!!!!!!!!!!! GO COLONELS, GO COLONELS, GO COLONELS :fire::fire::fire::fire: I figure we will all need the fires to keep warm!!!
  6. Charlie Banks was a heck of quarterback and more than that he was the leader of that team. He certianly earned it, Congratualations Jim Black has done a great job rebuilding the pride in Colonel football and restored respect to that program. Congrats to a great guy and coach!!!! Both of these guys are winners...............
  7. I seem to remember back in 03 or 04 Highlands rolled into Bell County as heavy favorites, and left with the loss. Many back them said that Bell could not compete, in fact alot of the stuff beign said here was being said back then. My point is that whatever is said here has no bearing on the game. It really makes no difference if Whitley "hits" harder than Highlands or that Highlands is "faster" than Whitley. What matters is the heart of the warrior, I really don't think that anyone here can question the heart of either team. That is not to say that Bell had a bigger, or more heart than Highlands back then or that the winner will have a bigger or more heart than the loser on Friday, what I am saying is that you can't measure or even guess at the heart of the opponent when you get to this point in the season. Sometimes teams win that have "no chance" I look forward to the game and seeing both teams compete at a championship level. This is the game that kids train for and not eveyone gets the chance to play in a game of this nature. Although if you read most of what is here it is a forgone conclusion that Highlands will win, but it is not, just wait till Friday, sit back and enjoy becuase this is going to be a great game.
  8. Highlands may be faster but too physical???? We will see......Highlands may win, but Whitley will hit you, actually I think that man for man Whitley may match up pretty well. Mud (lack of grass) may even out the speed issue. And before you start Whitley will not be watering the field. It has been over used this season (elementary, freshmen, JV, and Varsity) plus it has been used in the rain 3 of the last 4 games, and with the weather this week I don't see it drying up too much. As for naming the score, well you can name all the scores you want.........what are you going to name them? Fred? Dale? Jim? Alice? All nice names but I am just trying to figure out why you would want to name a score??!!!????
  9. Go Hounds!!!!!!!!!!, wouldn't it be nice if Corbin and Whitley both could win and have two teams from the same county in Louisville although playing of seperate days? Campbell Field on the banks of the beautiful Lynn Camp Creek is a tough place to play, especially when you have the horses in the backfield like Campbell and Watkins. The "South" shall raise again-----Corbin by 6 BTW I hit the wrong button again, someday I may learn to read......and type!!!!!!!
  10. No the field will not be covered. The thing about the weather is that both teams will have to play in it, it will rain, snow, sleet, and hail on both sides of the ball. The interesting thing will be if it is foggey, which it was for one game this year. Both teams will be prepared for whatever Mothernature throws at them.
  11. To be honest Whitley has not thrown the ball much, because they have not needed to very often. That is not to say that they can have an air assault in one week but they can throw effectively. The key is to throw it when you want to throw not when you have to throw it.
  12. I hope you have your will signed and and your insurance paid up...:flame:
  13. Charlie Banks is good. He truely made the Lectcher County Central team. Any team in the state could use a kid like him. Without Banks Letcher may only win two or three games, he just put that team on his shoulders and carried them to a region championship game. Congrats on a nice career and good luck in your future challenges.
  14. About 2.5 hours.... Whitley County High School is located off exit 15 on Interstate 75, turn left off the off ramp and go approx. 1 mile, the entrance to the school is on the left. If you plan to eat prior to the game, in Williamsburg you will find the Cumberland Inn, and assorted fast food. In Corbin (exit 29 & 25) there are several resturants including Applebees. Seating is limited at WCHS on the visitors sideline, although it is a great place to watch a football game. There is parking at the school but there could be a large crowd. Highlands has a great team this year. There is no doubt that they have a bunch of athletes and tradition on their side. Whitley is in uncharted territory for their team. Everything appears to be going for Highlands with the small exception of it being on the road. There is no reason to think that Whitley can compete. But they have not gotten to this point without being a good football team. With the exception of Bell County they have knocked down everything that has been in their path this season. Many times when nobody gave them a chance. They have stopped Ricky Bowling, Zach Lewis, Steven Duckworth, and Charlie (Tim Tebow of the Mts) Banks twice. They faced 3 Mr. Football canidates and each of them left with a loss. Yeah the odds are pretty steeply stacked against the Colonels, but I would not bet against them....... Sometimes a team is just in the right place at the right time and everything falls into place. Not taking anything away from Highlands but this is a Whitley team that has overcome more than people know and sometimes being in the right place at the right time is more important than being the team with tradition. To be the best you have to beat the best, That is where Whitley is, with an opportunity to beat the best, what more could they ask than 48 minutes to settle it and win lose or draw you leave knowing that you did your best.
  15. Your knowledge of Whitley is limited to what you saw at one game, and saw on the boards and newspapers. Whitley has been down in the playoffs to Pulaski and responded very well. But I with everyone saying Whitley will be beaten so bad their mothers won't recognize them, I think Jim Black and the team have just decided to mail forfiet forms in and not even play. You are right they are just a little old team that have never had any success and this is all a fluke. My Gosh how lucky they are to even have shoes to play in.....
  16. Great Post!!!! I think that if every fan too that attitude every high school game would be a pleasure to attend. Good Luck Redhounds!!! Corbin 27 P-Burg 24
  17. The weather looks good for the game with a high of 56 and a low of 27. Game time temp should be in the 40's Perfect footbal weather. Colonels 41 Cougars 21
  18. I am not saying it will hurt Whitley, but being out of school, LCC can bring the kids in early do a walk through, feed them, and travel at their leisure without having to worry about getting kids out of class and the distraction of being in school prior to such a big game. They could even watch some film, pad up and get focused. It should make it easier to travel being out of school. Whiltey can still mantain their normal pre-game schedule being at home.
  19. Look on the bright side Whitley saw to it that they are playing basketball now......
  20. Both teams have changed alot since the first meeting, which was in mid October, we are now in late November. Some of the basic things are the same but each team has evolved and gotten better. This is a good rivalry although only in its early stages is becoming heated very quickly. Home field in this situation will help Whitley. Letcher is used to playing on turf regularly, I know that Letcher has played on grass but it could play a factor. Both schools being out of school will help Letcher but there is no place like home. Good Luck Colonels.
  21. Highland has a very balanced offense, with 2461 rushing and 2381 passing. Johnson Central only has 227 yards passing (as of 11/07 KHSAA stats) although they do have over 4200 yards rushing. There is something to be said for a team that is so one demensional and still has the success that JC has. But on the other hand, Highlands uses the whole field and JC will have to defend it. Starting out I am sure that Highlands can concentrate on stopping the rush, which would lead one to think that JC may try on bust them early with a big play pass, but this is where athletes come into play. JC recievers are more used to blocking than catching and Highlands DB are used to people trying the big play on them. I think that Highlands wins but the game will live up to the hype and be a great one but Highlands will have just too much firepower defensively for JC.
  22. I would agree to some extend, after Whitley got up 20-0, it was clear that they put it on cruise control. I think that the kids thought they were going to put another physical beat down on Pulaski like in the preseason scrimmage. Had they continued to play with the same intensity they started with that may have happend. The Colonels were lucky enough to get the engine started again and get over the hump. PC is a good team, but would be much more dangerous if they had more players involved in the offense.
  23. You are right, in fact it is not anyones fault other than Rock's. It is their job to keep to keep Bell from scoring, and it is Bell's job to score and if an onside kick works, well friends and neighbors I would do it till it did not work regardless of the score. As far as sportsmanship, I never thought Coach Hilton was anything but a sportsman. Seriously, show me a good loser and I will show you a loser. He does not want to lose and does everything to keep from it.
  24. Congrats to Whitley on a nice win. I thought that the Colonels did not play up to their own standards, but they did play well enough to win. Pulaski showed that their team has guts, heart and talant. Pulaski had improved since the pre-season meeting. In fact that may have played a factor for both teams. Whitley (players) may not have taken it as serious as they should have and Pulaski (coaches and players) took it personally. Congrats to Pulaski on a successful season, and good luck to the Colonels as they move on to face Lethcer County Central.
