  1. About 6 million kids play high school football each year in this country, about 10% go on to play football in college at all levels. If you get to put pads on after high school and get an education to boot, congratulations, you are a great player regardless of the level of college football. As for the "D-1 caliber" guys, usually they fit into the height, weight, speed categories that D-1 schools want. D-1 schools miss on some great, great high school players because they don't want to take a chance on a guy that is a little shorter or a step slower in the 40 so those guys play elsewhere and make some school very happy. Bottom line, any opportunity to play college ball is good enough.
  2. You Highlands folks are so sensitive, I was not attacking your program! You are also dillusional if you think motivation and teaching do not play a huge part in high school coaching. Also I do not have any kid that lives in Northern KY. And the speech was to a small group of high school students, maybe 50, it wasn't the quality of his speaking that was undesirable it was the content.
  3. Not sure how well this will work out for Highlands. Being a coach relies heavily on one's ability to motivate and after hearing the worst motivational speech I have ever heard given to athletes, by Lorenzen last summer, I wouldn't take him on my staff, which pains me because I WAS a fan when he played!
  4. They need to make a firm start date later in the year, say May 1st. This would make it much easier to plan for and hopefully provide better weather.
  5. Question for hey-ref, is it legal for linebackers to cut down fullbacks, below the waist, on plays such as ISO out of the basic I formation? Also, is it legal for Offensive lineman to flash cut, where they flash high then cut, when QB is under center?
  6. They finished 4th due to a KY's screwy tie breaker point system and a 3 way tie with Ashland and Woodford. Ask anyone from HHS, they were probably the toughest KY team HHS played all year.
  7. Give the man a chance, he hasn't even held a weight session or a practice yet. I'm sure all the coaches interviewed did the best they could, if you don't like it and you are a parent, go the admin. Good Luck to Coach Turner, hopefully he can get a staff together and get up and running soon, it has been over 2 months since Coach Lucas resigned and spring ball is coming up quick. BS is coming off back 2 back winning seasons for the first time in over a decade, Hopefully they can keep the momentum going this year.
  8. Just heard they went with Turner, good luck to 'em.
  9. Most public schools require that the head football and head baskteball coaches be rank 1 coaches which means they must be teaching in the building. I am not familiar with Henry Co.'s BOE rule but this usually keeps non teachers from getting head coaching jos in these sports.
  10. Talked to one of the organizers down there today, he said NCAA rules force them to charge players or they would lose their amatuer status due to the gifts recieved by players. Hope this clears up the 'why they charge issue'. The East West charges a fee also most likely for the same reason.
  11. I don't think they let Coach Nichols go with the intention of hiring Lucas. Coach Nichols had his own issues and they apparently could not be worked out. Coach Lucas just seems like the man they settled on after the search. They seem like 2 separate occurances, Lucas just happens to be the guy taking over for Coach Nichols. All this talk about Lucas, what does the team look like? Sounds like it was a young team last year, but I looked up their schedule and it's tough, especially the first few games. If they can pull a couple of wins out of their 1st 4 games they could have a nice year.
  12. I think the field and facilities were an excellent fit but geographically I would prefer EKU.
  13. :laugh:This is amusing. I won't even get into the reasons or examples they are too numerous and have been discussed ad-nauseum on this site in the past. Good luck to Coach Lawson, I wish him and his players the best.
  14. Let's remember that education and sports is about the kids. Who cares if a parent moves a kid to a school they think will better prepare them for college, it is their child they can do as they please. I also agree with strongopenyon, there is no such thing as a transfer in high school, this is not college. If a parent moves the kids move simple as that.
  15. I agree, Coach Lucas = good hire and I'm done.
  16. Questioning doesn't bother me, I don't have a dog in this fight neccessarily, it just bothers me when people bash hires and coaches on here. I don't have a problem with diagreeing either, but try not to bash the guy when you don't know anything about him, or the program he comes from. I agree that beating those teams is important but you'll have to wait and see, the man has an excellent track record throughout his career. What got me argumentative was blindly proclaiming it a bad hire without giving the man a chance. He had nothing to do with the sitation with Nichols, who had 9 years to produce the results you are calling for without the results you are calling for. Inevitably, he will be compared to past coaches and other programs but let the man get his system in place or at least coach a game before critisizing, which also is inevitable. I think it is a good hire, from what I gather he works hard and is great with kids and can win. By the way, why is BS the school with the most talent? I watched the HC BS game and Clay had more talent and speed on the field. The last NFL player from BS was Eric Shelton and he's been out of HS for 10 years. What has that got to do with the kids they have now?
  17. Look, Coach Lucas had to build the Station program from the ground up. They had not won more than 2 games in 7 years, the facilities were deteriorated and lacking, the team had no weight room or off season program when he arrived. I think he has done remarkable work in 4 years, upgrading the entire program to make them competitive with the best in the state. Most improtantly, Coach Lucas had to change the losing culture of BS football and this is no small feat teaching kids how to win. As far as not getting to regional, well few teams can lose a 2000+ yard rusher to injury at the start of the game and get past good teams like Henry Clay, which was shut out through 4 quarters for the first time in 7 years. I think with some infrastructure in place and some good talent that knows how to win returning Coach Lucas can make Manual into a team that can eventually compete for state. Also, you seem to be a Louisville guy, I'm a Lexington guy, I watch the ball that's played around here. If anyone from Lex ever made it to state we'd get to see how they fare against X & T. If you want to talk disappointment, how did Henry Clay lose to Scott County? As far as athletes and speed they are not even close.
  18. HAHA No one cares who you are, trust me. I would be very surprised if you had any quality coaching experience simply based off of your comments. You obviously know nothing of Coach Lucas or any of his staff, so why comment on him? Comment on your expertise like cow tipping.
  19. BigCatDaddy, it is clear you have limited knowledge into the sport of football and what it takes to establish a quality program. Yes Bryan Station does have talent, however that is not all that it takes. If your evaluation of coaching is correct, any half way decent coach should coach over at Bryan Station and win state next year, correct? Coach Lucas is a top notch coach who will do great things at Manual.
  20. Read the first sentance of my previous post again, it will increase his chances at a scholarship. While it is not impossible to earn a D1 scolarship playing in 1A or 2A it is decidedly more difficult. College coaches just don't come to the games as much and don't evaluate the film the same. If a kid plays 1A or 2A he needs to, not only stand out but be a man amonst boys. If you saw any of the players mentioned above, Johnson, Yeast, etc. this was the case for them. Johnson looked like a 30 year old man playing in an 8th grade game, he was that good but you have to be that good for them to "find" you. If you are not the physical speciman Micah Johnson is then you need to play better comipitition and in front of more scouts to prove you can excel on the next level.
  21. Players are bigger, faster, stronger and the game is speed is faster.
  22. Playing in a higher division against better compitition will increase his chances at a scholorship. 1A & 2A kids rarely get D1 rides, because college coaches cannot guage their level of play against the speed of the game. If you want a ride to play with the big boys you need to play the big schools. And I know all you small school guys will whine about this but it is the truth, it is not a knock. There are great kids at that level and they work and play hard, this is not a shot at the kids. Just watch a top level 5A or 6A game then watch a !a or 2A game. The big schools play at a different level of speed and size. Colleges want to see their recruits dominate quality opponents at the HS level to know they can play at the next level.
  23. I wasn't saying good coaches can't coach all levels, they certainly can. Someone referred to 1A & 6A being the same brand of ball which it is clearly not. Coaching is coaching at all levels, heck 1A coaches propably do more with fewer coaches and resources.
