Congrats to the Knights on the win. We may very well see a potential rematch of the state semi's from last year if Holmes and LC both advance in the first round.

Both teams wanted to slow the ball down offensively to capitalize on every possession and work for good shots. Holmes and Boone both play outstanding defense so both coaches knew each and every possession was important. Difference in the game was Pittman and Rico. Both showed why they're D1 prospects and big time players. They combined for 26 of Holmes' 32 points (13 each), with Rice chipping in with 4 and DJ with 2. Pittman and Rico were both HUGE down the stretch on both ends of the floor. Both had several blocked shots when Boone was trying to tie the game and Pittman made the final 2 free throws to seal the deal while also getting a big offensive rebound to put him at the line with Holmes up just 1. Mcfarland and Gabbard combine for just 7 points and 3 of Mcfarland's 5 points came from the charity stripe. BTW, look at the prediction thread...I believe someone said when it was all settled the Dogs would be cutting down the nets and Ricardo Johnson would add a 9th region MVP award to his collection. Pittman, J. Johnson, and R. Johnson (MVP) made the all tourney team for Holmes. Mcfarland and Brown made all tourney team for Boone. Holmes heading back to Rupp for the 3rd consecutive year!! :ylsuper:

I'm just going on what I heard. I have several family members on the team (see my name..tezzyRICE) as well as relatives who are parents of these kids. Not sure why anyone would make something like this up. :confused: No need to get all worked up about it though...the kids will settle it all tonight on the court and the better team will move on to Rupp, whether it be Holmes or Boone. Good luck to both teams. Sorry for bringing it up and getting off topic.

SC will miss Richie's leadership and calm/cool demeanor on the floor more than anything. That's where Guyn, Jackson, and Euton need to step up, especially with the two youngsters out there in Ivey and Manning.

Debatable...Riley filled it up that day as well. IMO Pittman was the best player on the floor that day as he dominated both Phares and Euton and his double double was the difference in the game. Even Billy Hicks described him as a "monster." Guyn's numbers just helped keep the game respectable. That's for another thread though....sorry for getting off topic. As for tonight and a potential run at Rupp, Guyn is now the key player for SC. I've always been most impressed with him and felt he was their best all around player. He can fill it up from anywhere on the floor and his on the ball defense is outstanding. SC will need him to step up in a big way tonight because I think Sanford is good enough to shut down Jackson and I see that being a difficult match up for SC. Jackson seems to lack intensity at times when I've seen him.

Every team does it...even your beloved Boone County Rebels. IMO all nky teams get away with a lot more than they should. I watched NCC players grab and hold Pittman and several other Holmes players just as much as Holmes was doing it to them. Refs don't decide the games....the players do. Let's not sit here and act like they're 31-2 heading in to tonight because they got special treatment from the refs all year. :lol:

It goes both ways. No way they get more calls than the other teams. Matter of fact, during the Jefferson, Hill, Rice era they got whistled for A LOT because of a few players reputations. This year Rice has been called for several technicals fouls...Holmes definetly doesn't get any "star treatment" like you say. Even in the Highlands game they were whistled for a lot. Matter of fact, Highlands was in the bonus midway through the 3rd quarter while Holmes didn't reach it until around 3 or 4 minutes left in the game. If teams get whistled for a lot of fouls against Holmes it's honestly because they aren't quick or athletic enough to defend them. It has nothing to do with Holmes receiving special treatment...come on, we're talking about hs kids DMZ..not NBA players.

Just reporting what I heard from SEVERAL Holmes player. I know for a fact he said something to them during the Highlands game.

I'd say a lot of that had to do with Pittman being on the bench a lot throughout the game with the injury and I'm pretty sure Rico was in foul trouble as well. This is the region championship...big players step up on the big stage. Holmes is more focused than ever right now and ready to go. Heard from several Holmes players that Cotton made a few remarks towards them during the Highlands game when they were rooting for Boone and then again during the NCC game when he was in the front row....not very smart on his part to try and give them added motivation.

Riley won't be matched up with Gabbard...he'll be on Brown. Expect to see Rico guard Gabbard when Rice is in. When he's not, either DJ or Housely will be on him. As for Boone, I'd assume Gabbard will be on Riley.

We'll agree to disagree then. Not sure how you can make that comment though when Holmes was actually called for more fouls throughout the game than NCC was.

I think Riley, R. Johnson, J. Johnson, and Pittman of Holmes might have something to say about both of the bolded comments. I'd also be willing to put 6'5 soph Rice (Arnold) up against SC's 5th starter, or anyone else off their bench for that matter, any day of the week. Phares was the X-factor for SC throughout the season. Without him, there are several teams who match up more favorably with the Cards.

I guess the third time was the charm for J'town. Congrats to the Chargers.

Why doesn't the 10th have an all tournament team?

Actually I think this is the first year they haven't sold the programs. They usually sell programs and t shirts throughout the tournament..

True...but honestly, it's much tougher to get out of the 9th this year, than the 10th. Tradition has nothing to do with THIS YEAR.

I agree. I had heard they were originally supposed to replace L'ville St. X with Cooper to end the season. Anyone know what happened with that? :confused:

No...which is why a huge crowd is expected. A lot of the 10th region faithful will likely stick around for the 9th region final as well.

Is this considered a mild upset?

Yes...I believe this is why they spread the games out so far. Assuming the 6:00 game is done by 7:30, that then gives the 10th region folks 30 mins to get through cutting the nets down, announcing the all tournament team, and presenting the trophies. When this concludes, that then gives the BOKC staff 5-10 minutes to put a new net up and allow the 9th region teams to have 20-25 mins to warm up. I'd also think that since there will be such a long lay off between games, that they'd atleast let Boone and Holmes shoot around for a few minutes at halftime. :confused:

Yea I believe he got hurt during the 2nd or 3rd quarter.
