I'd say their defense is better this year at this time compared to last year. Entire Season: 2008/09- 46.6 2007/08- 45.4 This year's team is only allowing 1 ppg more than last year's squad for an entire season. Holmes has also played one more game to date than last year's team. Take away the one bad defensive game that Holmes had against Bryan Station where they allowed 86 points and look at the average you get for Holmes through 32 games: 1453 (number of points they've allowed this year, not including the 1st BS game) /32 (number of games last year's team played to date) =45.4 ppg They actually have the same average as last year's team through 32 games.

Saying that isn't questioning a team and KIDS heart though. My comment has more to do with the play on the floor.

I agree. Brown seemed to be "in the right place, at the right time" many, many times.

You can't be serious...to say one team wants it more than the other or has more heart is flat out ridiculous and somewhat disrespectful. IMO, as Straightshooter said, both teams want this badly. Holmes wants it for the simple fact that they want to avenge their only nky loss and silence all of their critics. I also think they still have a bad taste in their mouths from losing in the state championship last year and coming up short of their ultimate goal. Boone wants it to prove they belong in the upper echelon of teams throughout the state while also having a chance to play on the biggest stage in KY High School basketball.

I never said it was a smarter play. If you look at my initial post, I simply stated the oop was there as well but he elected not to give it up. It was actually Bigmark who even brought it up that Pittman was on the other side waiting for the oop.

Gabbard may guard Riley, but Riley will likely guard Brown with D. Johnson/Housely guarding Gabbard. That's how they matched up the first game.

I agree. Gabbard will be key for Boone in this game because honestly I don't see Boone being able to hold Rico and Riley both down this time around. Riley is what makes Holmes go though.

I rather have Riley on the line over ANYONE. He is an 80% shooter from the charity stripe.

I've seen several games this year though where Housely had a chance to give it up for an oop but elected to take it himself and missed a dunk. I've personally only seen him dunk 2 or 3 times in a situation like we're discussing from today.... He has to learn to give it up a little more. In the past two games there's been two different Holmes players tell him "pass the ball Brandon.." and several occasions where he's hurt the team by trying to do too much by himself. He is still one hell of a player but sometimes gets too caught up in the moment with trying to be the "hero", if you will. Holmes has to play as a team in order to be successful, and that goes for every player, not just him. Like you stated in an earlier post, they settled for too many jumpers today rather than penetrating and looking for the open man.

Never criticized anyone's opinion or said they weren't allowed to voice it. :confused: It's just MY OPINION that Boone beating Holmes by 10 or 12 is very doubtful and wishful thinking. Nothing more, nothing less. I personally see the same type of game with Holmes/Boone as Boone/Highlands. Boone lost to Highlands on Highlands home floor, same as Holmes on Boone's home floor, but the better team prevailed on a neutral court. Take it FWIW...I doubt very seriously Boone sees the same type of effort from Holmes that they saw out in Florence though.

I agree. Since the loss to Boone, they've given up an average of just 41 ppg. Throughout the post season, they've given up an average of 35 ppg. (12 below their season average) Not many teams are going to beat them with them playing defense the way they are right now.

Doubtful. IMO this year's team overachieved considering they had no seniors. I think Willie is very pleased with the season these boys had. They will be one of the top 2 teams in the region next year.
