I'd add Brandon Housely, Dom Johnson, and Kevon Rice of Holmes as players to watch as well. Everyone knows about the big 4 (Riley, Johnson Brothers, Pittman), but IMO Holmes is starting to play their best ball of the year right now because of those three stepping up. Housely and DJ made the district all tournament team and Kevon chipped in with I believe 7 points in the district championship. Holmes will need all three to continue playing well if they want to make a serious run at the state title.

The best sophomores in NKY that I've seen: 6'6 G/F Kevon Rice Holmes 6'0 PG Kellen Smith Scott Tamron Manning of Scott Co is hands down the best freshman I've seen this year.

You could have waited until Sat to get your tickets and only paid $48 (Assuming you paid $63 because you got the $12 tickets for re-entry + service charge through Ticketmaster) or $32 for the 4 tickets. ($8 a piece) BTW...still waiting for your response to the following post: No disrespect meant here, but seems the only ones complaining are the Mason Co fans.... The 9th has a 3 yr contract with BOKC, so naturally they are going to try and accomodate those teams first. I really don't see the big deal about when and where they play. Regardless, all teams are still going to have to show up with their "A" game or they'll be going home early. And FWIW, the 10th region fans actually have it better, as they can catch all 4 of the quarters games in one day for the price of what the 9th fans are going to pay for just two games. I feel the BOKC has more than accomodated the 10th region fans.

The knock on Pangallo is his size. I think he's only 5'7 or 5'8? He is very quick with the ball though and a nice little player. He broke Holmes press all by himself several times when they played.

Highlands inside game really wore the Rebels out. Dill, Watson, and Grubbs made Mcfarland and Earls virtually non factors in the first meeting. Boone struggles with teams who have depth inside because Earls is really their only true post player, since Mcfarland is more of a Small forward. Boone historically seems to struggle with Highlands' physical defense as well.

It's already been proven by Holmes that Scott Co is beatable by in state opponents. With that being said, it will take a valiant effort by any team at this point in the year to knock them off. I see a Scott Co/Lexcath 11th region final.

Cotton will be the x-factor in this one. He is the one player that Beechwood can't really match up with because of his size, strength, and athleticism. I see the Beechies hanging around for a while, but eventually Boone will pull away in the end. Boone 66 Beechwood 57

I think Boone could beat the 2nd region rep in the first round, but IMO Holmes is the only team in the 9th that would be Scott Co in a second round match up.

So because Boone has more players in the steals category that gives them an edge over Holmes? I'd say a lot of that has to do with Boone being a team who presses a lot, wheras Holmes has relied on tough half court defense for the majority of the year. Regardless of how many steals Boone has they still give up the same amount of ppg as Holmes at 47. It's somewhat ridiculous to compare teams based on individual stats.

I think some may be overlooking the Birds because of their big loss to NCC. I see them coming out and taking care of business. St. Henry really has no one to stop Highlands inside game. I see Grote and Kowolonek having big games. Highlands 58 St Henry 51

I think once the people actually experience it, they'll be glad it was held here. BOKC does a nice job hosting high school basketball games and it will be ran first class.

I think the point is, there are going to be parking issues regardless of where the region final is held, so why do we need to talk bad about this school or that schools' facility? All three ran great tournaments when it was their year to host. Let's just all be thankful for the KIDS that they have this opportunity to play at a great facility like BOKC that has more than enough parking, accomodates ALL fans that want to come, and most of all will prepare our 9th and 10th region representatives for a deep run at Rupp, by getting them used to playing on a college size court. :thumb:

No team is going to outscore Holmes in a high scoring game. It's already been proven against Highlands and Scott Co. Bryan Station was able to beat them in an uptempo game early in the season, but Henley made the proper adjustments in the rematch and blew them out of the gym by not pressing and forcing them to beat them with half court sets. Only way I see Holmes losing is in a low scoring game where a team slows the ball down to limit their touches offensively. Holmes is just too good to keep them from putting a 10-0 run on you, when they're getting a lot of touches and opportunities to score.

I agree. I'm just wondering what kind of "psyche" Boone comes in with if they do get a rematch with Highlands in the semi's. Does Highlands comes in with a swagger and confidence considering they handled the Rebels in Fort Thomas and have already played at BOKC? Or does Boone come in with revenge on their minds and take it to the Birds? Should be a great tourney. If Holmes gets to the finals, which I'm pretty confident they will, I don't see anyone out of the upper bracket knocking them off. Highlands just doesn't match up well with the Dogs and I really don't see Boone beating Holmes twice in one season. If they do though, they definetly deserve to represent the 9th at Rupp.

I'm not sure Smith is there just yet. I'd still probably give Riley the advantage as the best "pure" PG. Smith is solid, but IMO just doesn't have the instinct and ability to take over a game yet, like Riley does. Riley's all around game separates him from Smith. With that being said though, I'd say Smith will be the best PG in nky next year and by his senior year will be one of the top 10-15 PG in the state.

Newcath shot the ball pretty well from outside the first time those two met, and Holmes still led by 18 heading in to the 4th quarter. If not for a late run by NCC when Henley began subbing out Rico, JJ, and Pittman, the score could have been much worse than the final 12 point deficit. I agree that a hot shooting team will be able to play with Holmes, but not many are going to be able to play good enough defense to stop the Dogs offensively.

I agree. When he is working hard down there, they need to get him the ball. Holmes was very effective in the second half of the B'wood game when they started running the offense through him on the post. He's able to get the opposing teams' post players in foul trouble, while also opening things up outside for the rest of his teammates to either take the 3 or get in the lane for easy shots. Pittman needs to be touching the ball on every possession IMO. If he stayed in the post more, he'd easily average a double double. One thing I do think he, along with the other Holmes players need to improve on though, is moving more without the ball.

I don't understand how Boone got a tougher draw. Boone's first round opponent, Beechwood, lost to Holmes' first round opponent, Ryle. Boone's probable semi final opponent, Highlands, lost to Holmes' probable semi final opponent, NCC twice. Again, I'd say Boone got a much better draw. I much rather face Highlands in the semi's than NCC.

I'd say Holmes has just as tough a road as Boone. They get Ryle in the first round, who is a very physical team that played the Dogs close throughout in their first match up (they also beat Boone's first round opponent)...and then they get a NCC team (most likely) in the semi's that just beat Highlands by 22 and is playing their best ball right now. NCC is one of the most dangerous teams in the tournament right now. The only difference in the two draws is that Holmes has beaten all 3 teams in their bracket...Boone hasn't.

I agree. I'd expect atleast the lower bowl to be filled which would be right around 6k.
