  1. I thought Stonebraker was a proven winner. When a coach can win at Casey, that is a feat in itself. The community at Garrard obviously didn't think so they wanted him out. People in Garrard couldn't wait a few years for a football regional championship so they want a new coach, so why were they satisfied when they had to wait 24 years until they got a basketball regional?? That doesn't make sense?? This whole thing seems like a personal agenda. I'm sure that the next hire will be someone that is a great football mind, CARES ABOUT KIDS, and probably not from Garrard.:thumb:
  2. According to the threads, if John Teater is from Garrard Co. then he has a chance. Encourage him to apply because Hester, Perry and Cooper are not.:ylsuper:
  3. Changing colors completely, I agree is messing with tradition. Adding an accent color is not. So I guess Duke, USC, Tennessee, UK(Baseball), etc. are totally changing their tradition when they added black in as an extra color. Don't think so?? I agree colors are important no doubt about that, but I think kids who were the uniforms are just as important. Sorry, I care about the kids more than the colors.
  4. By the way gchs-uk9, where is garrardgnat. He also seems to be so "informed" of the next football coach at Garrard. Maybe he knows something we don't??
  5. I knew that you missed me gchs_uk9! Oh what fun we can have when the truth is spilled. Let me ask you this - if you were applying for this position and the board of ed. hung you out to dry every chance they got, cut your feet out from you and told you what to wear and what not to wear even though your in coaching because it is all about the kids, wouldn't that somewhat turn you off. From what I've heard about Garrard's administration is that they are very supportive of the coaches, programs and kids. That would really encourage a coach to come to Garrard. The turnoff is the "few" in the community that think they are in the position to hire - even though their only care is what happened in the 70's and 80's. Along with that, the board is too worried about what colors is on the jersey's and not what is best for the kids. I think that would turn me off a bit, but I'm just an outsider looking in.
  6. You seriously have to be kidding about this! The Advocate Messenger is "in the know", not the Sports Editor at Garrard. He is definitely not in the know. His info is usually second hand at best. His information usually derives from a personal agenda and who he fantasizes thinks should have the job. I wouldn't be suprised if he didn't put himself in for the job and maybe a few of the Lion Pride members as assistants.
  7. Tell me this - How can anyone hire a football coach in the next 10 days when there is a huge debate on what the "actual" school colors are??? Isn't that a prerequisite to put a new coach? So I think your time frame is off. Also, good athletic directors like the one at Garrard does not leak information out to the public so I'd have to be somewhat skeptical of your information anyways. If I was a coach looking for a new place, I would definitely want to know what uniforms and I could wear and what I could not. I would also not want to wear uniforms that the community made me wear because they think adding an extra color or changing the shade of the gold and cardinal "goes against the tradition". Get real!
  8. When is Coach Settles going to let people know who is on his staff? Has he talked to his new team yet?
  9. Want candidates do you know of?? Haven't heard of anyone that would do a good job other than coaches who have taken other jobs or removed theirselves from the running.
  10. Cooper is done at Garrard. I also heard he might be going to Lincoln.
  11. So what you are saying is that there is the same amount of talent at Garrard as there was when Perry was there. There must not be when Coach Stonebraker is playing varsity games with a jv players. As far as the assisstant coaches of the current staff, I would say that all of them are loyal to their head coach and none of them will apply for the head job. Who is on your wish list for the new head coach?
  12. Why did Jaggers go to Mercer? He knew that the merger was getting ready to happen with Harrodsburg and Mercer . How many off the field issues did Boyle County have in their state runs??? You talk about solid program that has went downhill since the Stonebraker era, what was Hester's record at Garrard before Stonebraker? 2-8????
  13. GCHS_UK you talk about the Garrard job being attractive for coaches, can you tell me how many regional championships Garrard has won in the schools history?
  14. Garrard has been blessed with a relative easy district this year. Boyle Co. is not the team they have been over the last two or three years. I think Coach Bolin and his staff would produce the same results.
  15. I don't think the blame is being put solely on the middle school coach. The feeder system in general is not very good and that goes all the way back to little league. Responding to what studwr said about square one fundamentals being taught at the high school level shows something is wrong. Practicing these fundamentals is one thing, but teaching the basics at this level is another.
  16. Yeah, I agree. I was able to talk to one of Garrard's assistants and thats basically the same thought he had. I think Garrard's head coach has spent alot of time "in district" recruiting to get kids back out on the field. I think their was alot of kids who got burned from the middle school and that is definitely affecting them now. Hopefully the middle school program got things turned around and will help the high school out by developing young talent. You said it best about the importance of a good feeder program. I don't think Garrard has one at all.
  17. I'm right on with you studwr, it seems that people are quick to judge when coaches/teams are struggling. It is apparent that kids during the Stonebraker/Cooper era made many progressions. I don't think they got the support they needed from the community and was quick to want a change. I know Stonebraker & Co. had to deal with alot of grade and behavior issues that were out of their hands. With small schools, we all know that is a tough pill to swallow. I wouldn't judge a coach on that. Now if this staff reloaded tons of talent each year and still produced 2-9 seasons, I would agree with GCHS UK9 that there needs to be a change but I highly doubt that was the case. I think alot of people in Garrard need to realize that and provide a helping hand instead of a noose. Thanks studwr for seeing my point.
  18. What about Garrard this year? Do they have anything returning??
  19. Hey GCHS_UK9, are you the stat keeper or what?? I've never seen such detailed breakdowns of seasonal stats. I agree with LCPATS and MR. Network - Cooper does deserve a shot at the head job. He's been in the system for 7 years as second in command and I think he would do a great job. Sounds like the community needs to understand athlete turnover especially at a small school like Garrard.
