Nice post. You know so many people want to knock what Elliott has done and how good they are. Many people are just waiting for this class to graduate so they can talk about how bad we are. But people dont understand that these last four years have been so special for us and we are just proud and grateful for our little team. Like the article said, in a County were there is economical hardship, our Lions have given us something to believe in and to be proud of. Every year there are so many schools who have great teams; once they graduate they simply reload. We cant do that, and we know that. Thats what makes this group of boys even more special. They will always be remembered not just in Elliott County Basketball lore, but they will be remembered by the state for many many many years to come.

You are right about the talent; the big schools in the 16th have struggled, but I am just looking at it through the eyes of todays talent compared to the past on all levels of basketball. For example if you put a decent NBA team like the Magic in the past they would dominate; or put Shaq in the 1960's and he would have been better then Wilt. I agree the 16th is not near as competitive (aside from Elliott) then it was when we had the great Ashland teams, I just think that with better trained and overall bigger players, along with more athletic facilities that are available today, great teams from the past would struggle with decent teams of today.

Thats fine. Yeah as far as being competitive the 16th region was better 30 years ago, but again if you took West Carter and put them in the league 30 years ago, they would be a contender for the state tourny. But again its an opinion.

You all have to consider the increase in talent level over the last 30 years. In my opinion, and this is only an opinion so everybody dont freak out, I think that you could take any top 10 ky team and put them in the league 30 years ago and they would dominate. Agan just an opionion by seeing the talent levels across all levels of basketball increase over the years.

Elliott was dropped in most polls and in BGP poll they were dropped from 6th to 11th because of that loss. I think they have made that one up, and I am sure that after Holmes wins a couple good ones they will be back on top. There only polls they mean nothing.:thumb:

Yeah I agree. I dont put much stock in any poll, I just like numbers and think there fun to play with. Polls dont declare a state champion and the lower Elliott is, the less they are targeted like you said. For fun my top five would be at this point: 1. Scott County 2. Holmes 3. Elliott 4. Eastern 5. JTown I think Eastern is often over looked and not talked about much, but their record is great and I think they could do some damage in the state tourny. JTown is JTown but it depends on what team they bring to the game that decides their fate. I have seen them play great and not so great. Elliotts only loss to a top 20 team in the state is to Shelby Valley and it was only by 3. But a loss is a loss. I just believe that if they match up again in the second round of the state tourny, Elliott will have their number. Elliotts wins over Mason and Ballard has only made them better and they will be ready for whoever they play in the state Tourny. Holmes was beat by a very good Boone County and to me they are still number 2. Scott County is the leader of the pack right now and if anyone else is going to win the tourny, they are going to have to beat Scott County to do it.

Great post. As I watched their dunking talents and seen how athletic they were I got a little worried. When our boys came out and were shooting threes for warm-ups and Ballard was still dunking, I started thinking dunking not going to win this game for Ballard and of course it didnt.

Didn't Ethan receive his 2,000 point ball on Tuesday? So we have two 2,000ers and the top scorer in 16th region history together. WOW is all that can be said.:dancingpa

I agree; I appriciate Ballard coming all this way to play us. Im like you I dont know the full details of the deal but Ballard gave us an enjoyable experience; one Elliott will never forget.

You are right, Elliott is not as deep as I wish. However, the starting 5 can play a game with the same intensity from start to finish, which is one of their strong points. Thanks for the compliment!:thumb:
