Last years standing are obvious, this thread is about the upcoming year, not last year. Both Christian and Hoptown both have just about their entire teams back this year.

Wrong. Three very strong teams in Owensboro, Hoptown, and Christian County. Watch out for Christian County this year.

Hoptown will be much better this year. Last year they committed way too many turnovers and at the worst possible times. Example: They got beat 34 - 0 by Owensboro last year and gave up less than 100 yds of offense. Two interceptions returned inside their 5 yd line, another for a TD. They didn't lose much to graduation and return all skilled positions. If they can get their offense under control and not throw so many stupid interceptions, then they can contend. If they can't then they'll get killed by their schedule. The district is one of the toughest in the state. They looked pretty good in spring practice, lots of speed, and good size on the O and D lines. Bottom line, if their offense doesn't give games away, they'll be much improved.:irked:

I know what you mean. I have an inclination that the Hoptown - Highlands game this year will be more competitive. A lot of people in Western Kentucky will come out for that Saturday game just to see Highlands.

It's not real smart to base this year's team on last year's results.

Are the Nike combines worth the effort, or just hype for Nike? Does anyone out there know if these things actually help to improve a player's recruiting status, or expose their weaknesses?

OK, Rocks. My bad. I'm not a big 6A guy. :confused:After looking at the numbers the number is 1,445. So I will gladly admit my error. So for the record Marshall County who won Region 1 6 A has 746 to St. X's 1,404. Still a bit lopsided, but there's not much choice That aside, I still say the best public, small school football is in Western Kentuycky.

Who can compare with Beechwood - that's easy Mayfield. I doubt if any one school throughout the state can compare with Highlands' successes, but we're talking about the AREA here and if you put together the successes and histories of schools like Paducah Tilghman, Bowling Green, Hopkinsville, Christian County, Madisonville, Owensboro (who by the way beat Boone County at Boone County this year) - that's pretty good football. The smaller schools like Fort Campbell, Murray, Mayfield, Russellville, Trigg, Caldwell, have all won multiple state championships. I don't think any other region has the number of historically good public programs. As far as 6 A goes, well the west doesn't have that many 6A schools, and certainly none with 3,000 boys.

Wow - the big city bias. Just because the LCJ only covers Louisville and Northern Kentucky schools doesn't mean that's where the best football is. The best priviate school football - probably, but for plain old small town (public school) football its Western Kentucky.

Those are some good numbers, no matter what level you're playing. Good to see Georgetown is able to get that quality of player. I hope he has a good year/career there. By the looks of it, Georgetown is having one heck of a recruiting year. Go Tigers!:ylsuper:

Curious as to his stats, can you tell me his basic numbers, height, weight, 40, bench, and/or receiving stats? I definately know stats don't tell the story, but I just want to get a feel for what kind of players Georgetown is recruiting these days.

Anyone know why he isn't even considering Kentucky?

Trigg should be pretty good again this year, however they did lose much of their size up front. They will still have speed and their QB back for next year. I know one thing, they better figure out how to stop the run up the middle or it will be a long season for the Wildcats. :irked:

It will be good to see Highlands play at Hopkinsville this year. The stadium is excellent and I'm sure there will be a number of folks in Western Kentucky turn out to see the vaunted BlueBirds take on the Tigers at home.

There are a couple of programs in West Ky that are on the brink of breaking back into prominence. Bowling Green, Hopkinsville, Trigg, and Paducah Tilghman IMO will make some noise in this new allignment. Bowling Green keeps knocking and won't go away in 5A, and with the next allignment Hopkinsville will move to 4A and will make some noise. Tilghman in 3A will begin winning when they get their coaching staff settled. They have way too much talent in that school for 3A. And then there's Ft Campbell, who knows.
