Glad to hear the parents of Estill county seem to be really getting into the Double Wing. A system like that usually never satisfies the bleacher coaches, but with parent support, the possibilities are endless.

Eaglenation, well said. They've got a couple of guys up front that could be animals if they get rid of the "niceness" factor. One in particular, I would think would be getting some looks by some smaller colleges, especially if he continues to grow and develope. Nation, who is looking to be the feature back? Schowbel needs to have a good back to help him open up the passing game...he's got a great frame though for a QB and I expect him to readily take the reigns. His dive into the endzone in overtime on that option play against Williamsburg, showed me a lot about his ability, potential, and toughness. He needs to continue to build on that and make it 'his' team.

They have to establish themselves as a consistent running team. They lose Shumari Bridgewater (a top 20 in KY) at RB. However, that is about it from graduation. Most of last years district winning team were juniors and sophmores. I look for the QB (Schoebel?) to have a greater impact this season. Having been around him, he needs to become a more vocal leader, which will come with maturity. Defensively, they need to be able to defend the pass.

Strongly agree. Eastern side (if you include C-ville, even though it is South Central KY) is the better bracket. Maybe somebody out of there can upset the rule of Beechwood.

I totally agree with what you're saying about Pikeville, that may just be a flyer. I honestly don't know enough about football out west in Fulton City, but you may be right. Either way, in my opinion, A football is my favorite to watch, and this year should be no exception. I love watching a small town take pride in something that is truly "theirs."

Ram, what are your Top 10 A teams?

A little off the topic, but how do you guys think Berea would finish if they were in this district like they were originally going to be? I think they could beat Clinton, but man those other 3 would be quite a feat. Clinton is pretty good, Williamsburg is TOUGH, and Campbellsville just flat out has a lot of talent. It is the biggest C-ville team I can remember seeing in action.

I'm sure this will stir up a hornet's nest, but I think Campbellsville can beat Raceland. Lex Christian may be another matter all together. Campbellsville has a rough road schedule, but I look for them to make a great run! But honestly, I'm extremely biased. I'm not there now, but my heart still belongs to the purple and gold! Go EAGLES!!!

Well, I thought that was right, but I know they played in the regional final last year. Well, whoever it is, I think Campbellsville makes it to the regional final.

If Campbellsville can get solid production in the running game, replacing recent EKU signee Shumari Bridgewater, they should be the team to beat. They had a kid last year that got less carries than Bridgewater, but he was like a sophmore. He was BIG. If he gets a little more experience and learns to run with his shoulders squared, he could be a monster. The rest of their core from last year returns as well. I predict that we will see Campbellsville playing Hazard for a regional championship. Last year was a little bit lop sided, but who knows...Coach Wiseman may be able to break on through to the state semi's with this talented group.

Man, Estill only lost the QB from last year. That running game will be at the top of the state again. They run the double wing extremely effective. I agree, the rocket series stuff may be some of the best I've seen. Now what do they need to work on....DEFENSE!!!! They cannot hope to continue deep runs into the playoffs playing terrible defense. They have to stop people from scoring. They have to figure out how to slow down Breahitt County. Overall, they just gave up too many points to less than impressive offenses. They need to focus on keeping opponents under 14 to 18 points. I think if they're offense is running on all cylinders, they can out do that score consistently.

Was the freshman qb the Barnes kid? I saw him play for Clark Middle his 8th grade year, and he was just a real tough guy kind of kid.

Don't worry, I'm thinking of photocopying the section, highlighting my main points, and I'll even let them step off my offensive line in pregame just to prove a point. We double wingers are masters of the FBZ interpretation...it is literally gone over at every meeting/clinic I've been to.

:laugh: I wish you had that on tape!!! That is hillarious. I wouldn't recommend it, and most will frown on it, but I'm sure you look back on that little outburst and laugh. All coaches have done things we shouldn't have out of aggrevation, so I'm not trying to be holier than thou. Truth be told, I once challenged a ref to throw the flag on me for getting on his tail so hard, with the justification of, "At least you'll get one right tonight." Not my proudest moment, but I can look back on it and sheepishly laugh now, because it was totally out of my normal character on the sidelines (I'm usually very quiet, for a coach, and don't complain)...oh yeah, he didn't throw it. My staff said it looked like it freaked him out, and he wouldn't even look at me after that.:lol:

The Free Blocking Zone issue is due to me running a true Double Wing system. It usually won't apply to other offenses, because the splits are too wide. But in the double wing, we get foot to foot. This creates a Free Blocking Zone (FBZ) that is within the 4 yard "box". This means our TEs can legally perform a cut block on a defensive tackle. I always talk to the refs before the game, but this year I had a crew that was convinced it was illegal, and flagged us for it about 3 times on 1 drive. In most offenses, the TE is just too far out to allow it to be a legal block. The motion issue was comical. Our cadence is "down, ready, set, go." We start our motions on SET. This ref claimed that it was illegal to have a motion (keep in mind it was either going in an arc backwards, or straight behind the FB) that late in the cadence. We had to delay longer, which in turn would throw off all our timing. He wanted us to really OVER exaggerate our motions...crazy. A different crew the following week laughed at it while I was explaining it and said, "as long as no one is going forward and only one is moving you're fine...you can go in motion without any cadence." Of course I knew this, but it was pretty aggrevating. The trick play stuff was just to check a few things to put some silly extra point stuff in. We played around with some "Lonesome Polecat" looking stuff and the kids loved it, so I just want to continue expanding it further, within the rules.

Had some issues with the Free Blocking Zone, motion, and "trick plays." I know I was right, but 2 crews last year refused to cooperate with us, and threw a lot of flags. I tried explaining it to them, and I figure they can't argue with a hard copy of the rules in my back pocket.

Where can a coach get a copy of the high school rule book? I had a couple of issues last year that I think could be resolved if I have the book in hand to review and have as proof.

Well I did once here of a principal that stood up to the.............uh, wait a minute, I haven't heard of this story........That must have just been a fantasy.

What has happened is absolutely terrible! If I had a daughter that was of age to play basketball for Central, I could not ask for a better person and role model. Hey guys, the man only lost 8 games in the last 2 years with a total of 2 seniors in that time period! That's a freaking shame. Lost this year to the State Champs, wins district titles, makes great runs in the region, and still gets put out in the cold. Shame Madison....shame on you!

GRC has greatly underachieved in the past. I'm not one to call out a time for coaching changes, but you guys may be on to something. That county has talent...it has just hasn't produced in the last few years. Pretty bad that we are saying this after their nice playoff run a couple of years ago, but it just seems to be a lot of the same 'ol same 'ol coming out of Winchester.
