I agree 100%! However, I know of a school in the 9th Region that will NOT allow 8th graders to move up because they don't want to hurt their middle school sports! And they have a few 8th graders that would help them right now at the Varsity level......

Ludlow should win by 15, so I will say they pull out a close one by 5ish.... Both are well coached. I also wish I could see this one tonight!!!

Because the Middle School team will suffer.....that is what I have been told! But last time I checked, Middle School teams don't make the newspaper (unless it is the community paper) But back to Moss, I saw her play last year as a 7th grader at Heritage and she was good. Playing against SO, JR, and SR's.....

Congrats to Brossart. Early in the year when they lost to Ludlow, and I said if they were to replay it again, they would win, I got crucified. I am glad that Brossart's talent is starting to take shape. Their younger coach (sorry don't know name), is doing a great job with them!!!

There are still other schools in the area that won't allow 8th graders (no matter how good they are) to move up to JV/Varsity until after their seasons are over!

So by it getting up to 125 smallest schools, is that what the All A had in mind, or has it snowballed into something bigger, where now the actuall small schools that it was designed for are gettng beat up on again? (yes run on sentence sorry) I get there is no "classes" now, that makes sense.....

I find it interesting, I just don't know the facts to keep it going. I had no idea that some AA's were playing in the "All A"......it is interesting. I still think an All AA would be a good idea.....but if it gets to the point where it is over saturated, then it becomes meaningless......

Thanks for getting us back on track! :lol: So you are saying an All AA could be arranged. So how many games does it count towards the schedule. This is another KY mystery to this former Buckeye. The whole you get 23 games. But if you play in a tournament with 4 games it counts as 2. #@$#@$# HUH????? I think my brain finally got past that fuzzy math. I thought 4 games was 4 games, but anyway.....and if you tri-scrimmage in the preseason, it counts as both of your scrimmages. I just don't get it..... :confused: How many games does the All AA count towards if a team advances far???

Thanks for the info! I am sure it isn't an easy thing to do! So is the All A statewide or just NKY? About your other post with the $$$ figures. I don't know Ohio's (OHSAA) numbers. I am sure they make all their money from Football and Basketball. For basketball, they have all 4 divisions Final Four in Columbus. So there are still 16 teams playing, but representing 4 size of schools.....I don't have figures...sorry :(

Not looking to hurt ANY high school athletes. They should have the best experience possible! And that goes for any athlete in any sport! I don't think every kid should make the team or anything like that. However, in my original post I was just wondering why there is an All A tournament that gives the little guys something to play for, and then there isn't an All AA tournament. Just wondering why not or whatever....I am not gutsy enough to try to take on the KHSAA or do I want to. I don't want to ruin anything for anyone, just asking a simple question that is all. And I guess I am confused about how other sports are broken into classes and not basketball. If it is only because it is a "cash cow" as you claim, that is a shame for everyone involved with high school athletics! I don't coach in NKY and don't have any daughters playing in high school (yet) and so being new to the area just trying to piece it all together!

I guess I don't understand what you are asking in regards to the money. In Ohio, the host school of sectionals, regionals, and districts receive a cut of the money for hosting that part of the tournament. A host site CANNOT have a team playing at that site. The other money goes to the OHSAA for trophies and regular expenses. In response to all the sports, it should be the same for all the kids no matter what. If it is broken down in some sports, then it should be in ALL sports. How do you tell your daughter that goes to Small High School that she will never have a chance to compete because her Region has her placed with 4 bigger schools that are always better (and why her friends/teammates transfer to in order to have "a chance"). However, her schools football team who went 0-10 made the state tournament because it is broken down into classes. Makes no sense for this former Buckeye. I wasn't saying it was the worst thing in sports, just trying to understand the makeup. I had no idea teams that went to the sweet 16 made a cut of money..... WOW

I haven't taken economics for a long time, but let me see if I get the "old guys" math for girls basketball: 1 sweet 16 has 16 teams = 16 x 50 fans each = 800 people 4 sweet 16 classes has 64 teams = 64 x 50 fans each = 3200 people I am only counting 50 fans each which is LOW. The small town teams that would make it to state would bring just that, the whole town. It would be a cash cow. I am failing to see where this is a bad idea. More people equals more money? Supply and demand and such.... It works in Ohio where I am from. The small D IV schools bring their whole towns to games when it is state tournament time!!! More than the bigger schools. More people is more gate money and more concessions.... Plus it gives schools a chance to play against same/similar schools (apples vs. apples, not apples vs. oranges)

Does anyone know why no one organizes the All AA Tournament? The All A seems like such a big deal on here, you would think that all the AA schools would like something to play for!

I am all about tradition....just a shame that only a select few will ever have a chance to play for a state title! Which of course will cause kids to move or transfer and the rich will get richer......

I like what I have seen out of them this year. They have the athletes and seemed to be coached well! They press and run and seem to play well as a team....they seem pretty good to me! (IMO)

I couldn't agree more. Isn't there like 5 or 6 class sizes for football?

So why wouldn't the private company want to do the same for the AA's? Sounds like the middle sized schools are really stuck in the middle with no options when you take into account that the All A satisfies the small schools, and the private/big schools feast on the "real" tournament......

Ok, this is probably a really dumb question, but I am going to ask it anyway. There is an All A tournament I keep reading about. Is there a All AA tournament? I have heard the All A gives the small schools something to play for. But what about the middle size schools? In Ohio and Indiana they have state tournaments divided into classes based on school size. Why does KY have an all inclusive state tournament (all schools in one bracket), but also an All A tournament? What about the AA's? Does my question make sense? If so, please help me understand this... THANKS!!!!!

I agree, your continued devoted posts in favor of Ludlow speak highly about your dedication! I think I read they lost to Ludlow, and as I have said all along, they need to win these games for myself and others to jump on the bandwagon. They are good, just not an upper team YET... best wishes to them as they continue to be a feel good story for smaller schools!!!

I HOPE THEY DO WELL ALSO!!!! Don't misunderstand my postings. I love the small school story successes. I hope they take it to the bigger schools. However, I have my doubts. But who am I? This whole BGP is just opinion and discussion. I think they will beat a lot of the schools on their schedule and will win close to 20 games. However, Boone, Ryle, and Holmes (top tier programs) will beat them. How many times do we see teams that play cupcake schedules (not their fault they are a small school) and don't get tested night in and night out. And let me put it out there one more time: "I HOPE THEY DO WELL ALSO" and prove me wrong!

Let me repost with names spelled correctly: I have heard that Coach Stamm also "works hard". "He is a nice guy". "Teaches kids the game". And so forth. However, that doesn't mean they are FOR REAL......They are better than the other little schools that are their schedule and in their conference. But against the upper schools, they will lose. Doesn't mean that Coach Stamm isn't a good coach. That is just the reality of the game!
