I have heard that Coach Stramm also "works hard". "He is a nice guy". "Teaches kids the game". And so forth. However, that doesn't mean they are FOR REAL......They are better than the other little schools that are their schedule and in their conference. But against the upper schools, they will lose. Doesn't mean that Coach Stramm isn't a good coach. That is just the reality of the game!

No. Not against the upper tier of NKY. To me it seems like there is 3 levels to NKY hoops. The top tier (Notre Dame, Highlands....), the middle tier (Brossart, Ryle, Ludlow,....), the bottom tier (small schools with no good players). They are a good 2nd tier team, but can't hang with the top tier.....

And I agree, Ryle doesn't fit with this crew. They drilled LLoyd by like 30 the other night.....

Not sure how even both of these brackets are. I heard Newport beat Lloyd in their preseason scrimmage. So I wouldn't say they are a lock to beat their pool. On the other side, Grant and Bellevue are weaker then Villa and Ryle right? So aren't there two weak teams on each side? I don't know, just asking.....but normally the home team gets the edge ha ha

I would agree. Ryle looks like the top team in this one! I know nothing about most of these teams. I have seen Villa, Ryle, Newport, and Lloyd play and that is it. Villa and Ryle could be a great game to watch!!!

not sure about times, but the teams are: Pool A: Newport, Dayton, Silver Grove, Lloyd Pool B: Grant County, Ryle, Villa, Bellevue

I was just looking at records and standings and noticed that Conner and Ryle are both undefeated at 3-0. How good are these teams?

I will give you that to a certain degree. However, just because girls don't elevate as high as the guys, they get penalized for not sending the ball into the stands or out of bounds. When they block "all ball" and no body, it looks and sounds like a foul, but the only contact is with the ball. I agree, if the other hand is on the shooters body, it is a foul. PERIOD. But when they both go straight up, and no body contact, the officials call fouls based on appearance and/or lack of respect for girl athletes being able to do it correctly....

just because I swing my arm and it may "look" like contact, there is a difference between "looks" and actual "contact"....... if they called all fouls on "looks" there would be a foul on every drive to the basket, every rebound contention, every hand check. however, they only call the "look's like it" foul on blocks which is total garbage for the few players out there who can actually do it correctly!

I wish I saw more of those refs at games I watched.... NEWSFLASH: Some females ARE athletes and can jump! (that may be shocking to the real world, so count to 10 and let it sink in)

I agree they tend to slap down a little bit harder than guys, but they aren't all fouls! I hate watching a good game with good post players who swat a shot, but they call a foul because it "looks" like a foul....

I have been around girls basketball now for about 15 years. I am amazed at how many times a "blocked shot" is called a foul. It is almost like refs don't believe that girls can actually block shots. Anyone else see this, or am I missing something?

This game was a two point game mid to late 3rd quarter. But then Brossart took over for good going on a big time run to seal the deal. I think Brossart is going to be tough as the year goes on. I thought Lloyd played hard, but were outmanned-outgunned. Brossart pressed the whole game and played tough defense. They attacked and were very disciplined on offense. #21 and #22 were their stars tonight! They both were around 20 points each! Good luck to both teams.....keep an eye out for Brossart and their 4-1 record!

That's kind of what I was thinking. They definitely have some great athletes on their team. Do their athletes play 2 and 3 sports like most smaller schools, or are they more speciality sport players?

Amber Harris (who now plays at Xaiver U) dunked on my team in a tournament in Indianapolis when she was a junior. My player wasn't sure if she was embarrassed, or like: "cool, I just got dunked on".... haha

Great list! However, ESPN Sportcenter wouldn't like it too much....the media has made scoring a monster. Not that scoring a lot of points is a bad thing. But I think the young players of today do exactly what this thread said in the beginning. They are upset or think they suck if they don't score X points or more....nothing about the other phases of the game which outnumber points!

I find myself having a drawn interest to Brossart. I know they aren't a big school in Kentucky, but I am pretty impressed by what I have seen so far. Are they year in and year out competitive? I read somewhere on here a while back that they lost 5 or 6 seniors last year (most of their scoring), and am impressed they are 3-1 now. They remind me of Archbishop McNicholas from Ohio (maybe it is the colors). Is this 3-1 start because they are good, or because of an easy schedule? What is the point spread against Lloyd HS tonight?

In the big picture it is "EQUAL" in importance. But I don't let them know that. I would much rather have a player the statline of (these are the true "good" players on teams): 4 points, 5 assists, 5 rebounds, 4 steals, 2 turnovers over the statline of (there are tons of these "good" players around the area, but the media pushes it that way): 19 points, 0 assists, 2 rebounds, 5 turnovers So to me, scoring is a little less priority. If the TEAM runs the offense like they should, anyone can score off of them.

As a coach I always told my players that scoring is last on my list of judging a players good or bad game. I let them know that anyone can score points (some are better than others of course). But it takes special players to play great defense, rebound, get steals, and throw assists. I emphasize that 4 assists = 8 points. So if a player has 4 points and 5 assists, they really had part in 14 points. I would much rather have a team that has 4 or 5 players that score 8-12 points a game than a team that has a 20 point a game scorer. It doesn't take a rocket science to figure out who to stop if you only have 1 main scorer!

Here is what a buddy of mine emailed me about the game: Great game -good atmosphere. BB won 57-53 in the last few minutes. CC was up most of the game but went to a zone because of foul trouble and BB fought back w/threes and dribble penetration. BB can definitely shoot and they pressed the entire game. They have gotten better since ludlow. CC is big with two or three very good players #23, #25, and #30. Solid. They should have won but they got out hustled and the stupid zone didn't help.
