I have been around girls basketball now for about 15 years. I am amazed at how many times a "blocked shot" is called a foul. It is almost like refs don't believe that girls can actually block shots. Anyone else see this, or am I missing something?

Girls have a tendancy to slap down when they go for a block! That is why it is called a foul so much.

I agree they tend to slap down a little bit harder than guys, but they aren't all fouls! I hate watching a good game with good post players who swat a shot, but they call a foul because it "looks" like a foul....

Charges are another area that they miss calls. They think the girls won't stand in there for the charge and call a block.

Actually saw block shots tonight from one girl and they were not called fouls. Overall in our game tonight the refs just let them play!

I watched Dunbar play and they blocked close to 10 of our girls shots. Obviously the refs really thought they could block shots because some of them most likely could have been called for fouls. However, Dunbars' girls can really alter shots at the basket, sure to be one of, if not the most athletic girls team in the state.
