12th Region Rankings and Review – Week 3 Let the Christmas Tournaments begin!! Last week we saw some early season district match-ups in the 46th and 47th Districts. The next two weeks teams throughout the region will be traveling across the state to play in Christmas tournaments. It’s the most wonderful time of the year so enjoy the many games being played in and around your area. Here are this week’s 12th Region rankings and review. 12th Region Rankings: 1) Pulaski County (6-2) – The Maroons won three of four games this past week but lost Steven Fitzgerald for a few weeks due to a broken thumb. He should return in January. Steven is the leading scorer and rebounder for the Maroons averaging 27.2 points and 8.6 rebounds per game thus far this season. Landon Powell stepped up for the Maroons this week after the loss of Fitzgerald. Powell had 25 points in the loss to Capital Christian Academy, MD and 18 points in the win over Evangel Christian. This week Pulaski County plays in the Central Bank Classic at Lexington Christian. 2) Southwestern (9-0) – Southwestern continues to be the hot team in the 12th Region. The Warriors have rolled off nine straight wins to start the season including three this past week in the Kentucky Bank Challenge at Rowan County. They beat Madison Central 62-53, Eastern 70-57, and Lawrence County 80-69. Peyton Gover is averaging 29.0 points per game and Peyton Cundiff is contributing 21.5 points so far this season. The Warriors will host Somerset Tuesday night before taking a few days off for Christmas. 3) Lincoln County (5-2) – The Patriots won both games this past week and the win over West Jessamine moved them up to third in this week’s 12th Region rankings. Lincoln County defeated West 80-60 at home then went on the road to Bryan Station to pick up another win 76-69. Noah Young led the way in both wins with 31 and 25 points respectively. Devin Alcorn added 24 in the win over Bryan Station. The Patriots will play in the Farmers National Bank – Clash of the Titans Tournament at Mercer County this week. 4) West Jessamine (4-2) – The Colts split a pair of games this past week. They lost in a meeting of top five 12th Region teams 60-80 to Lincoln County. The Colts prevailed in a 46th District clash 72-70 over Mercer County. So far this season, Isaiah Okesson has led the team in scoring averaging 16.0 points per game and Dalton Bruner has added 13.4 points. West Jessamine will be co-hosting the Farmers Bank of Jessamine County Tournament this week. 5) Mercer County (5-3) – The Titans played in two big 45th District games this week. They beat East Jessamine 82-55 then traveled to rival West Jessamine where the lost a thriller 70-72. Mercer also beat Whitley County 80-61. Trevon Faulkner continues to shine this season as he leads the Titans in scoring and rebounds averaging 22.5 points and 4.3 rebounds per game. This week the Titans host the Farmers National Bank – Clash of the Titans Tournament. 6) McCreary Central (4-1) – The Raiders are surprising some fans as they continue to put up wins in the early season. They beat Somerset at home 73-66 and beat Williamsburg 51-33. In the game versus Somerset, Devin Strunk put up a career high 23 points while shooting 6 of 9 from 3-point range. Devon Hamilton added 18 points. This week McCreary Central hosts the Arby’s/KFC Holiday Classic. 7) Casey County (2-5) - The Rebels pick up their first two wins of the season last week and they were important wins when it comes to district seeding. They beat 47th District rival Somerset on the road 55-53 and beat Rockcastle County at home 84-75. In the Somerset game, the Rebels were led in scoring by Maximo Reyes and Breece Hayes who both scored 15 points apiece. Casey County travels to Berea this week to play in the Berea Invitational Tournament. 8) Rockcastle County (3-4) – The Rockets started out the season strong winning 3 of their first 4 games, but have now dropped 3 games in a row. Last week Rockcastle lost to Estill County 70-76 and Casey County 75-84. But, on a more positive note, Lucas Gentry has returned to the Rockets lineup after being out for surgery. In his first game of the season Gentry had 13 points and 5 rebounds versus Casey County. The Rockets are traveling to the western part of the state this week to play at Hancock County in the Aleris Christmas Tournament. 9) Boyle County (2-4) – The Rebels have had a difficult early schedule against out of region competition. Last week was no different as they lost to North Hardin 62-73 and Lexington Christian 55-76. Reese Smith has stepped up this week and led the Rebels in scoring with 20 points against North Hardin and 19 points versus Lexington Christian. Bryce Slone added 19 and 16 points respectively. The Rebels play Glasgow before traveling to Mercer County to play in the Farmers National Bank – Clash of the Titans Tournament. 10) Wayne County (2-4) – The Cardinals split a pair of 12th Region games last week as the lost to Pulaski County 58-84 but beat Danville 72-55. Jakson Baker and Aubrey Weaver led the way with 22 points apiece in the win over Danville. Logan Brett added 19 points. The Cardinals travel to McCreary Central to play in the Arby’s/KFC Holiday Classic this week. 11) Danville (2-5) – The Admirals started off the season with five straight losses but once the football players got acclimated to the hardwood, they have won two straight games. Danville is playing in the Elleman Contracting Garrard Holiday Classic and beat Estill County 67-49 and Somerset 64-54. After those two wins the Admirals are in the Championship game tonight versus Western Hills. 12) Somerset (2-6) - Somerset has been struggling in the early season. They lost three of four games last week with their only win coming against Bell County 59-43. They play tonight against Garrard County in the consolation game of the Elleman Contracting Garrard Holiday Classic. 13) East Jessamine (2-7) – after dropping six games in a row, the Jaguars defeated Bath County 70-57 in the Kentucky Bank Challenge at Rowan County. This week East Jessamine will co-host the Farmers Bank of Jessamine County Tournament. 14) Garrard County (2-6) – The Golden Lions opened up with a win in the Elleman Contracting Garrard Holiday Classic over Union County 62-24. They lost to Western Hills 48-51 last night and will be playing Somerset tonight in the consolation game. 15) Burgin (2-6) – The Bulldogs picked up two wins last week as they defeated Model 68-59 and silver Grove 80-53. The Bulldogs will play Rose Hill Christian tomorrow night. 16) Kentucky School f/t Deaf (1-6) – The Colonels did not play last week and are off for the Christmas break. They resume play on January 6, 2017. Tonight has a big 47th District showdown between Somerset and Casey County at the Briar Patch. Also, a battle between two top five 12th region teams play in Stanford as West Jessamine travels to Lincoln County.

Last night Pulaski County easily handled Wayne County on the Cardinals home floor 84-58. Also, Burgin picked up their first win of the season beating Model 68-59.

12th Region Rankings and Review - Week 2 Week 2 in the 12th Region was another great week of high school basketball. We saw some early district match-ups in the 47th and 48th Districts, Southwestern remains the only undefeated team left in the 12th Region, Peyton Gover is making a statement in this early season averaging 30 points per game in his first six games, and Steven Fitzgerald was unstoppable in Pulaski’s win over Casey County as he put up a 42 point performance. All of this and more in this week’s 12th Region review. 12th Region Rankings: 1) Pulaski County (3-1) – It was the Steven Fitzgerald shows in the Maroons win over Casey County Friday night. He dominated the game as he dropped in 42 point in the 92-79 win over the Rebels. Pulaski moves to the top of the 47th District with this early season win. The Maroons also got an 85-81 win over Henry Clay in the Kentucky Bank Shootout in Bourbon County the following night. Pulaski Takes on Wayne County and Garrard County this week before heading to Pikeville for the Pikeville Invitational. 2) Southwestern (6-0) – The Warriors are making their claim as the top team in the 12th Region as they continue to win with lights out shooting. Peyton Gover is averaging just shy of 30 points per game on 55% shooting from the field. Peyton Cundiff is adding around 22 point per game for the Warriors while shooting 53% from 3-point range. The Warriors remain perfect on the season with wins over Casey County, Wayne County, and Marion County this past week. Southwestern plays in the Kentucky Bank Challenge this week in Rowan County. 3) West Jessamine (3-1) – The Colts rolled off 3 straight wins to start the season but lost at Bardstown in their Tip-Off Classic 66-69. West Beat Danville earlier in the week 80-60. Kendall Peters led scoring for the Colts with 24 points and Isaiah Okesson added 21 in the win over the Admirals. The Colts will open 46th District play as they host rival Mercer County Friday night. 4) Lincoln County (3-2) – The Patriots split a pair of games this week beating Wayne County 69-59, but lost to Madison Southern 63-67. In the win over Wayne County, Noah Young put in 25 points while Chase Phillips added 21 points. Lincoln County is hoping to move up in the rankings this week as they host West Jessamine Tuesday night. 5) Rockcastle County (3-2) – The Rockets got a big win in double overtime over 47th District rival Somerset 69-66 (2OT). Jordan Hawkins put in 24 points and John Cornelius added 16 in the win. The Rocket lost the next night to a very good Corbin team 65-67. Rockcastle County could be dangerous come tournament time. The Rockets continue their 47th District play as they travel to Casey County this week. 6) Mercer County (3-2) – The Titans split a pair of games this week as they beat 12th Region opponent Casey County 99-85 but lost to Paris 68-76 in out of region competition. In the Win over Casey County, Trevon Faulkner led all scores with 30 points while Garrett Dean added 24 points for the Titans. It’s all about 46th District play this week as Mercer County hosts East Jessamine then travels to West Jessamine for a big rivalry game. 7) Boyle County (2-2) – After dropping their first two games of the season, the Rebels have won two games in a row over East Jessamine 70-63 and Knox Central 83-73. In the win over Knox Central, Bryce Slone led the way with 34 points while Reese Smith chipped in 15 points. The Rebels travel to North Hardin then finish the week at home versus Lexington Christian. 8) Wayne County (1-3) – The Cardinals dropped two games last week to 12th Region competition. They lost to Lincoln County 59-69 and district rival Southwestern 66-89. Stetson Simpson led scoring for Wayne County versus Southwestern with 14 points. The Cardinals host 12th region power Pulaski County and then travel to Danville this coming week. 9) McCreary Central (2-1) – The Raiders played in the Bowman Classic this weekend where they split a pair of games beating Barbourville 69-63 but lost to Lynn Camp 54-57. This week they host Somerset and travel to Whitley County to take on Williamsburg in the Edgewood Supercenter Hardwood Classic. 10) Somerset (1-3) – The Jumpers got their first win of the season over Glasgow 92-58 after dropping their first two last week. They fell in a thriller to Rockcastle 66-69 (2TO) in 47th District play. The Jumpers have a busy week ahead as the play another 47th District game versus Casey County, travel to McCreary Central, then play in the Ellman Contracting Garrard Holiday Classic over the weekend. 11) Casey County (0-5) – The Rebels are still looking to get their first win of the season after dropping three 12th Region games last week to Southwestern 84-90, Mercer County 85-99, and Pulaski County 79-92. Casey has played a tough early schedule getting them ready for this week’s district match-ups at Somerset and at home versus Rockcastle County. 12) East Jessamine (1-5) – After winning their first game of the season, the Jaguars have dropped five straight games losing this week to Boyle County 63-70, Estill County 65-73, and Beechwood 62-68. East will play 46th District rival Mercer County before heading to Rowan County to play in the Kentucky Bank Challenge versus Bath County and Greenup County. 13) Danville (0-3) – The Admirals lost two games this week against West Jessamine 60-80 and at Spencer County 49-66. Danville hopes to right the ship this week as they host both Anderson County and Wayne County before playing this weekend in the Ellman Contracting Garrard Holiday cLassic. 14) Garrard County (1-3) – The Golden Lions pick up their first win of the season over Hazard 48-43. They lost earlier in the week to Washington County 55-77. Garrard will be playing at Pulaski County, hosting Whitley County, the hosting the Ellman Contracting Garrard Holiday Classic this week. 15) Burgin (0-6) – The Bulldogs are still hoping to get their first win of the season after losing to Campbellsville 57-76 and Robertson county 38-54. They host Model and play at Silver Grove this week. 16) Kentucky School f/t Deaf (1-6) - The Colonels went to Pennsylvania and played in the WPSD HC Classic. They gave a great effort but lost to all three out of state schools. The Colonels are finished for Christmas break and will resume play January 6, 2017 when the host the Kentucky Classic. 12th Region Basketball The first week of the season is in the books and there were a lot of great games throughout the 12th Region. Lincoln County’s first 2 games of the season are overtime thrillers, Pulaski County travel to Louisville Trinity, and other great games all in week one of the season. There were also some standout performances that sparked some intrigue across the region. Especially for Southwestern fans who witnessed their team make 18 of 22 3-point attempts in their win over George Rogers Clark and Peyton Gover of the Warriors scoring 39 points in that game. Noah Young also had a 31 point game for Lincoln County versus Lafayette and Trevon Faulkner had a double-double in his first game of the season for Mercer County scoring 30 points and grabbing 11 rebounds. Overall it was a great start to the 2016-2017 basketball season. Here are this week’s rankings and review for the 12th Region. 1) Pulaski County (1-1) – Pulaski traveled to Louisville this past weekend to open the season vs the #2 team in the state the Trinity Shamrocks. Although the Shamrocks handed Pulaski the loss, Landon Powell had a good game leading the Maroons with 22 points. The Maroons got their first win of the season at the Titan Classic in Harrodsburg over Bourbon County 82-64. 2) Southwestern (3-0) - The Warriors start the season 3-0 on some excellent 3-point shooting. In the game vs. George Rogers Clark, Southwestern shot 81% from behind the arch making 18 of 22 3-point shots. Peyton Gover led all scores with 39 points in the win and Peyton Cundiff added 20 points. The Warriors are going to be a high scoring team this season as they have averaged just shy of 82 points in their first 3 games. 3) West Jessamine (2-0) - The Colts start the season 2-0 with wins over Tates Creek and Garrard County. In the win over Tates Creek, West was led in scoring by Bradley Tullar with 19, Isaiah Okesson with 17, and Dalton Bruner with 17 points. This week the Colts will be taking on Danville and playing at Bardstown in the Bardstown Tip-Off Classic. 4) Lincoln County (2-1) – The Patriots took on the 47th District to start the season and came away with wins over Rockcastle County and Somerset. They also opened the season with a loss to Lafayette in overtime. In that game Noah Young scored 31 points and was 6-9 from 3-point range. 5) Rockcastle County (1-1) – Rockcastle has had to start the season without their top player Lucas Gentry. But, there is good news for the Rocket fans as he should be returning to the lineup in the next few weeks. In their opening win over Model, the Rockets had three players score 20+ points. Thomas Burnette had 25, John Cornelius had 22 and Carson Noble had 22 points for the Rockets. 6) Mercer County (2-1) – The Titans are off to a good start with wins over Shelby County and Owen County. In the win over Shelby County, Trevon Faulkner scored 30 points and brought down 11 rebounds for the Titans. Gunner Gillis added 12 points and 10 rebounds. 7) Wayne County (1-1) – The Cardinals used their opening week to take on a couple of team from Tennessee. In the game vs Clay County, TN, Jakson Baker and Aubry Weaver had 20 points apiece. 8) Casey County (0-2) – The Rebels have a tough early season schedule. They lost both games last week and are scheduled to play Southwestern, Mercer County, and Pulaski County this week. 9) Boyle County (0-2) – The Rebels had two losses in week 1 of the season. Bryce Slone was leading scorer for the Rebels with 17 points and 13 points in each game respectively. They hope to get a win this week as they take on East Jessamine and Knox Central. 10) McCreary Central (1-0) – The Raiders won their only game in the opening week over a 12th Region opponent in Danville. Devon Hamilton scored 27 points and had 17 rebounds for McCreary in the win. The high school basketball season officially starts tonight across the state of Kentucky. The 12th region kicks off tonight as Mercer County travels to Shelby county. 2016-2017 12th Region Season Preview Basketball in Kentucky is only a few weeks away and excitement is building across the Bluegrass. Last year the Mercer County Titans were cream of the crop in the 12th Region and one of the best teams in the state. Casey County had a Cinderella run in the post season falling in the 12th Region finals. What team will have their dream season and represent the 12th Region in Rupp Arena? Who will be this year’s surprise team? All these questions and more await us as the 2016-2017 basketball season is set to begin. Here is a look at the 2016-2017 basketball preseason rankings: 1) Pulaski County Maroons Is this the year Pulaski County finally returns to Rupp Arena? They have had some really good teams over the years, but just can’t seem to get over the hump. It has been since 1992 and the Maroon faithful are itching to make their way to Lexington this season. To help them get there, they have brought in new head coach John Fraley to manage this team full of potential. John is the son of former legendary coach Dave Fraley who led Pulaski County to the state championship in 1986. Two talented juniors by the name of Steven Fitzgerald and Danny Butt have moved across town and now wear the maroon and white. Steven is a potential division 1 shooting guard with range and has an excellent ability to penetrate off the dribble. He can also leap out of the gym. Danny Butt typically handles the point but will also post you up. These two will join senior guard Landon Powell and senior forward Trevon Sylvester to make the Maroons the favorite to win the 12th Region. Also, don’t be surprised when you see a freshman named Colton Fraley make his way into the lineup. This team has all the components to not only take the 12th Region, but to also make a run in the state tournament. If this team can come together and play as one without being selfish, the sky is the limit this year. The Maroons have a difficult schedule for 2016-2017. They kick off their season with Louisville Trinity, play Henry Clay, Louisville Butler, Bardstown, and play in the Central Bank Classic at Lexington Christian during the Christmas Holiday. 2) Southwestern Warriors Southwestern is once again among the top teams in the 12th Region this preseason. Over the past few years they seem to consistently be one of the elites of the 12th Region. New coach Chris Baker moves from the assistants chair to taking the helm of Warrior basketball. Coach Baker has some slots to fill with the transfer of two big starters but the team he has is experienced and knows how to win. The Warriors will be a very good scoring team. They shoot the ball extremely well and the three point shot will be utilized in abundance. The Warriors return senior point guard Peyton Gover and shooting guard Peyton Cundiff. A familiar face returns to the lineup in senior guard Hunter Cromer who sat out last season. Returning junior forward Logan Dykes will maintain the paint while fellow juniors Hunter Stevens and Matthew Jones will contribute from the perimeter. Southwestern’s biggest obstacle to overcome will be their size and how they handle a team with height. But what they lack in height, they make up for in athleticism and shooting ability. Look for high scoring games when the Warriors step on the floor. The Warriors have Central Hardin, George Rogers Clark, and Lawrence County all on the December calendar to get them ready for district and 12th Region play. 3) West Jessamine Colts West Jessamine has been in the 12th Region since 2006. Of their eleven seasons in the 12th Region, the Colts have been to the 12th Region Tournament ten times winning it in 2009 and 2010. Although they lost six players from last year’s roster, they do return a senior laden team including talented shooter Isaiah Okesson, point guard John Davis, guard Joseph Gilbert, forward Kendall Peters, and forward Bradley Tullar. These seniors hope to regain the 46th District crown which Mercer County has kept from them over the past two years. Also, look for transfer senior forward Ty Caudill and sophomore Dalton Bruner to help contribute to the Colts success this season. West Jessamine always plays a difficult schedule and this season is no exception. They will be cohosting The Farmers Bank of Jessamine County Tournament and participating in Lexington Catholic’s Traditional Bank Holiday Classic over Christmas break. They also have out of region teams such as Tates Creek, Bardstown, Lexington Christian, Dixie Heights, and Paul Laurence Dunbar to help prepare them for the post season. 4) Lincoln County Patriots The Patriots will once again be favored in the 45th District this season. They have won the district title the past three years and will be looking to keep the streak alive this season. Coach Jeff Jackson also knows a little about the 12th Region tournament. He has led the Patriots there eleven of the thirteen years he has been at Lincoln County and won the 12th Region in 2007 and again in 2008. So, the Patriots are poised to have another good year and will be led by senior point guard Noah Young. Young averaged 17 points per game for the Patriots last season and will once again be a big factor in the Patriots success this season. Shooting guard Devin Alcorn also returns for his senior season along with fellow senior Tanner Macaninch. The Patriots have a difficult schedule this season getting them prepared for post season play. They kick off the season playing Lafayette and also have Bryan Station, Lexington Catholic, and Anderson County scheduled. They will be playing in Mercer County’s Farmers National Bank – Clash of the Titans and Montgomery County’s Gateway Holiday Classic over the Christmas holiday. 5) Mercer County Titans Last year was the year of the Titans! Mercer County was the 12th Region champions and they were beaten at Rupp Arena in a thriller by the eventual state champions. The Titans not only lost a slew of players to graduation but they also lost their head coach. Well, this is a new year and new head coach Kurt Young is eager to get the season started. There will be some new players being asked to fill spots where some talented players graduated. One familiar face though will be the extremely talented junior guard Trevon Faulkner. Trevon is the best player in the region and is considered one of the best in the state in the class of 2018. He brings from last season an average team high of 18.6 points per game and almost 6 rebounds per game. Senior guards Rhyan Lanham and Jon Dunning, junior forward Garrett Gillespie, sophomore guard Carter Baughman along with transfer Gunnar Gillis will also be contributors for the Titans. The Titans will once again be looking to return to the 12th Region come post season and would love to bring the 46th District title back to Harrodsburg for the third straight year. Mercer County plans on hosting the Farmers National Bank – Clash of the Titans tournament and participating in the Campbellsville High School Holiday Classic over the Christmas break. Along with the 12th Region games, the Titans also have games scheduled with Shelby County, Corbin, Montgomery County, Muhlenberg County, and North Hardin during the regular season. 6) Casey County Rebels The Rebels had a great run in last years’ 12th Region Tournament finishing runner-up to a talented Mercer County team. This year they wish to finish atop the region and place the senior class as one of the best in school history. Speaking of the senior class, the Rebels have three seniors that are four year starters and one that could be the all-time leading scorer once everything is said and done. Shooting guard Jacob Smith averaged just shy of 20 points per game last season and could score well over 2000 points by the end of this season. Add point guard Colin Miller and forward Breece Hayes and you have a team with some excellent senior leadership. Sophomore Maximo Reyes is also expected to be a significant contributor for the Rebels. Casey County also has a new head coach in Jason Price. The question for the Rebels is going to be inside the paint and depth. With a lot of size and strength lost to graduation last season, who is going to step up and help Hayes in the paint. The Rebels are scheduled to play Knott County Central, Madison Central, Perry County Central, Central Hardin, and Taylor County during the regular season to help prepare them for 12th Region play. 7) Rockcastle County Rockets The Rockets could easily be the #2 or #3 team in this year’s rankings if it wasn’t for the preseason loss of the 12th Region’s best big man. Senior Lucas Gentry was last year’s leading scorer for the Rockets averaging 20.8 points per game and he will be out for at least the first part of the season due to hip surgery. If Gentry is able to return he will join a team that looks very similar to last year’s team. With basically everyone returning, the Rockets have an experienced team capable of making a run at the 12th Region title. Point guard Carson Noble and shooting guard John Cornelius return for their senior year along with fellow seniors Thomas Burdette and Jordan Hawkins. The Rockets were one of the highest scoring teams in the region last season so expect a lot of high paced action when they take the floor. This season the Rockets will be playing in the Toyota Classic in Georgetown and are scheduled to play Scott County first game. Corbin and South Laurel are also challenging out of region competition on the agenda this season. 8) Boyle County Rebels Boyle County graduated seven seniors from last year and this should be a rebuilding year for them. But, the Rebels could once again find themselves in the hunt for the 45th District title by seasons end and are a favorite to return to the 12th Region tournament. Anyone who follows 12th Region basketball knows Coach Steve Adams will have a solid defensive team. Last year the Rebels only had nine games where an opponent scored more than 60 points. This year they hope to build on their defensive success with strong play from their junior class as they return point guard Jason Alexander, shooting guard Bryce Slone, and forward Will Bramel. These three juniors can’t do it alone so some of the others who have not had a lot of varsity experience will have to step up for the Rebels to be successful. And the Rebels have a very competitive schedule to break in the inexperience. They start the season playing Bryan Station, Knox Central, North Hardin, Lexington Christian and will also play in the Farmers National Bank – Clash of the Titans at Mercer County and Gateway Holiday Classic at Montgomery County. This Boyle County team should be ready by the time post season comes and no 12th Region team will like seeing the Rebels as an opponent in the postseason tournaments. 9) Somerset Briar Jumpers The Jumpers were very young team last season starting four sophomores and they took their lumps. But, this year those young Jumpers will be upperclassmen and have a lot of experience under their belts. Somerset will bring a balanced attack with senior guard Austin dick, junior guard Kross Grundy, junior point guard Jake Cothron, and junior forward Trae Harmon. Improved big men 6’6” junior Andrew Wilson and 6’5” junior Colin Hartmann also look to make their way into the lineup this year. The Jumpers may be the biggest team in the region which could give some teams matchup problems. If all goes well for the Jumpers, they could find themselves having a very good year and maybe the dark horse to challenge Pulaski County and other powers in the 12th Region. 2013 was the last time Somerset was in the 12th Region Tournament and that year they made it to the championship game. Could this be the year Somerset returns to the 12th Region Tournament? Watch out for this Briar Jumpers team. They may be sitting at #9 in the preseason rankings, but could easily move into the top 5 as the season progresses. Somerset is scheduled to play in the Elleman Contracting Garrard County Holiday Classic and cohost the Lake Cumberland Holiday Hoops Classic over the Christmas break. They will also be playing in the 12th Region All A Classic in January with hopes of making it to Frankfort for the Class A State Tournament. 10) Wayne County Cardinals The Wayne County Cardinals have had an amazing run over the past few years as they have won three straight 47th District titles, been to Rupp Arena three out of the last six years, and have been a consistent top five team in the region. This year will be a rebuilding year for the Cardinals as they lost four talented players to graduation. But, the Cardinals have a very good junior group that has the potential to continue the tradition that so many Coach Rodney Woods teams have paved before them. Leading the way for the Cardinals will be junior forward Jakson Baker. He has been a two year starter for the Cardinals averaging 8.3 points per game last season and over 8 rebounds per game. Senior guard Logan Britt, junior forward Clayton Shelton, and junior guard Stetson Simpson will find themselves consistently in the starting lineup for Wayne County and be relied upon to be more of a factor this season. Look for the Cardinals to improve as the season progresses and don’t be surprised if the red and white are once again a formidable foe in the 12th Region. This season Wayne County is scheduled to play against Taylor County, Knox Central, Clay County, Lexington Catholic along with their difficult 12 Region competition. 11) McCreary Central Raiders The Raiders sit outside the top ten in the preseason rankings but don’t be fooled. The talent is there and new Coach Jimmy Voight knows this team has a lot of potential. They have taken their lumps over the past two seasons, but the tide is turning and the Raiders know this could be the year they finally make it back to the 12th Region tournament. They will be led by junior guard Hunter Jones and senior forward Devon Hamilton. Last year Jones averaged 14.1 points per game and Hamilton averaged just shy of 12 points. Add juniors Devin Strunk, John Cash, and Brandon Troxtell and you have a team with the talent and experience to challenge the mighty 48th District. McCreary Central will be hosting the Arby’s/KFC Holiday Classic and playing in the Pine Mountain Classic over the Christmas break. 12) East Jessamine Jaguars The Jaguars look to improve on last years’ record of 12-19. With losing 32% of their scoring and 38% of their rebounding to graduation, the Jaguars will look to senior guard Nathan Harper and senior center Logan Gayheart for success. Harper was last years’ high scorer for the Jaguars averaging over 17 points per game. Junior guards Ben Thompson and Drew Cook will also look to contribute. The Jaguars have been to the 12th Region Tournament 7 out of the eleven years they have been in the 12th Region but last year was the first time they missed it two years in a row. They would like to change that this season but a tough 46th District awaits them. The Jaguars open the season with Sayre and play in the Kentucky Bank Challenge in Rowan County and Henry County Invitational over the holiday season. They will also be cohosting the Farmers Bank of Jessamine County Tournament. 13) Danville Admirals The Admirals graduated seven seniors last season which was also 85% of their total offense. So you can basically call this a rebuilding year for Danville. Plus, the Admiral football team is expected to make a deep run in the playoffs so, in all probability, the basketball team will get off to a slow start. But Coach Ed McKinney hopes to have them ready to once again challenge the small schools in the Class A tournament come January. Danville will be playing in the Ellman Contracting Garrard Holiday Classic over the Christmas holiday and will be playing in the 12th Region All A Classic. 14) Garrard County Golden Lions Garrard County will have a new face at the helm of this year’s basketball team. Coach Josh Young takes over the Golden Lions program with hopes of improving from last year’s record of 15-15. It will be a tough task in the 45th District but Garrard County does returns guard Jacob Barker and forward Parker Daily for their senior season. The Golden Lions will be hosting the Elleman Contracting Garrard Holiday Classic and playing in the Hyden Bank Christmas tournament in Leslie County over the holiday break. 15) Burgin Bulldogs The Bulldogs had a great season last year with a record of 15-14, but lost four of their top six scorers for this season. Senior forward Jordan Hurst is the top returner for Burgin who averaged 8.4 points per game and over 10 rebounds. Senior guard Micah Dunn averaged 6.8 point per game last season and will be highly relied upon this year. The Bulldogs will be hosting the Coach David Feeback Classic, and also playing in the Robertson County Adidas Classic and the 12th Region All A Classic this season. 16) Kentucky School f/t Deaf Colonels Coach Mike Yance will be taking the Colonels on the road once again this season to challenge the best hearing impaired schools in the region. They will be travelling to Tennessee to play in the Viking Classic, Pennsylvania for the WPSD HC Classic, Ohio for the Mid-American Classic, and to Florida for the 65th Annual Boys’ Deaf Mason-Dixon Tournament. Good luck to the Colonels in their season ahead. Top Players: 1) Trevon Faulkner (Mercer County) Junior – A potential Division 1 combo guard, Trevon averaged almost 19 points and 6 rebounds per game for the Titans last season. He is one of the top juniors in the state of Kentucky and considered by many the top player in the class of 2018. 1) Steven Fitzgerald (Pulaski County) Junior – Steven has exploded on the AAU scene the past 2 summers and has received offers from some mid to high major Division 1 programs. He is an explosive guard with unbelievable leaping ability. He is considered the top player in the class of 2018 by many scouting sources. 3) Peyton Gover (Southwestern) Senior – Peyton is the top point guard in the 12th Region. He is a very smart, unselfish player that shoots the ball extremely well. 4) Lucas Gentry (Rockcastle County) Senior – Lucas is considered the best post player in the 12th region but hip surgery this past summer could keep him off the floor until January or later. 5) Treyvon Sylvester (Pulaski County) Senior – Treyvon is an agile post player who averaged almost 15 points and 7 rebounds per game last season for the Maroons. 6) Jacob Smith (Casey County) Senior – Jacob averaged almost 20 points per game last season for Casey County and helped lead the Rebels to a 12th Region Championship appearance for the first time in over 24 years. 7) Noah Young (Lincoln County) Senior – Noah is a quick point guard who averaged almost 17 points per game last season for the Patriots. He is the leader on the floor and has a knack for the game. 8) Danny Butt (Pulaski County) Junior – Danny is a strong guard with range that can take the defender off the dribble or post them up inside. He sees the floor well so he plays point guard quite often. 9) Landon Powell (Pulaski County) Senior - Landon averaged over 17 points per game as the point guard for the Maroons last season. 10) Colin Miller (Casey County) Senior - This will make Colin’s fourth year as the starting point guard for Casey County. He averaged over 15 points per game last season for the Rebels.

Look like 2017 Luke Johnson of Lexington Catholic has committed to Loyola (MD) per his twitter.

I think Lincoln could find themselves in the top 5 to start the season. They have good guard play but do they have someone who can fill the roll in the paint.

Where did Bryson Yaden go? He got some time at the varsity level last year as a freshman. It looks as if Chance McQreary may have transferred to Casey County. He is also in that sophomore class.

Is Chance McQueary a transfer in from Lincoln County? I just noticed he was on their roster as a freshman last season.

Lincoln Co. returns the majority of last years team. Point guard Noah Young and 2G Devin Alcorn will be back for their senior year and both averaged double digits in scoring. I would think they are the favorite in the 45th District.

Bolus ranking are basically kids that went to his camp so take it for what it's worth. I'm not familiar with the other 8th graders but Sam Conley is pretty good. It sounds like he maybe doing what Quentin Snider did his 8th grade year when he played varsity for Fern Creek his 8th grade year before transferring to Ballard for high school. That gave him varsity experience as an 8th grader and he was able to make an immediate impact his freshman year at Ballard.
