No. Their basketball team isn't struggling. I just found that post funny that True blue (and gold) was pretty much saying that it was time to hang up the cleats and put on the gym shoes for basketball.

Trimble is playing great ball even without Bird. The Raiders will take this one and move on to round 2 of the playoffs.

You pose a great question here Mousetrap..........has Owen's head coach given up? If so what's the point of the kids going out there on Friday nights and fighting their tails off if the Head Guy isn't behind them? Also, I agree that Owen needs to take careful consideration on the direction their program is headed. I don't know much about the whole situation there but from what I have heard, read, and seen in the games of theirs I have watched, the only direction that they seem to be headed is down with the man they have now at the helm.

So it sounds like to me that for those 3 days they pretty much didn't practice at all??? What's the deal why aren't kids coming to practice there?

Are Owen's kids not required to practice or has the head coach just given up on the season and not really caring if they show up or not? Or by what 20Rook said does Owen even have practice period? I would think he would want to practice for an upcoming playoff game even though their record is only 1-9.

So I take it you consider Owen one of the "best" and a "legitimate" team. If I recall correctly wasn't the score of this one the first time something like 40-0 or around that range. I can't remember the box score exactly. Just from the games I have seen Owen play.......they will have to play mistake free football and have perfect execution on every play to win this one.

DeSales won this one in the regular season with little trouble. Will this be the same story in the first round of the playoffs or will Owen somehow pull things together for a win?

After losing to Carroll Co. I see Dayton coming back ready to go and more determined than ever. Dayton takes this one in a close game.

Lincoln is playing some pretty good football right now and add in the fact that they are at home..........I'll take Lincoln in this first round game.

The win against Dayton gives Carroll some momentium going into the game against CAL. I'll take the Panthers in an upset! Good luck Panthers!

Great point! Yes, Trimble's OL did indeed to a great job of protecting their QB.

Just because a team has more players doesn't mean the kids that were on the field didn't get worn out. Just like True Blue (and Gold) said, Trimble had around 180 yrds. in the first half the rest came in the second half......when Owen's defense got tired. And I thought Owen only stopped Trimble 3 times inside the 10 but if they stopped them 4 times even more reason to give them at least a little credit for buckeling down when needed.

Good point. Great point actually. It is hard for high school kids to switch gears on a dime like that. However, you must give credit where credit is due and to stop a team 3 different times within the 10 yard line or so deserves at least a little credit. To answer your question about when Owen's JV defense went in the game, I believe they went in with about 6 or 7 minutes left in the game.

Trimble ended up getting all their passing yards late in the 3rd and in the 4th quarter. At this time Owen's DB's had been on the field most of the game. Trimble did a great job of exploiting Owen's tired legs.

Trimble looked good in the 2nd half of this game. In the first half Owen made 3 defensive goal line stands.........you can call that good defense or lack of offensive execution. Reguardless the score at half time was 6-0 in favor of Trimble. They (Trimble) didn't seem to have the offensive explosion till about midway through the 3rd quarter. By that time it seemed as if Owen had dead legs and were very very tired defensively from being on the field most of the game to that point. Hats off to Trimble. Good win for them and it was also good to see the Bird kid out there for senior day. Best of luck to him too in his very promising football career.

Jon Ball plays what position? RB? He's listed as a QB on the roster I think but isn't the the Hawkes kid the starting QB?
