  1. Well, I hope North can pull this off. I believe I heard someone saying that Whitley was a run stop defense which is the same kind of defense that gave North fits in the Clay County game..so hopefully North can find a way around that one. If North has to rely on passing then I'll give the advantage to Whitley.
  2. I actually think the Jaguars have an excellent group of runners in Tyree, Setters, Brandonburg and numerous others that are able to run the ball at anytime. I just don't think that they each are being used to the best of their ability. I recently saw some stats from the JV team the last few years and Setters had 950 + yards running in the JV season (thats pretty good to me) and if I recall right most of the runs were to the outside, not up the middle as he is being used this season. Tyree showed some AWESOME hands during the Clay game and showed just how much of an asset to this team he is. Brandonburg pounded the ball all night long and I believe they are using him the right way because if he gets a full head of steam goin, there aren't a lot of people going to take him down. So I do believe that North has an excellent group of runners, I just don't know if they are all being used in the right way.
  3. I don't know about that last part but, it'd be a pretty good football team.
  4. I really hope the North offense comes out and shows everyone that they're not just relying on the defense to win the games for them. North needs to come out early and score and give that D a little room to work with.
  5. Actually, from what I saw at last weeks NL/SL game, Bowling only threw long to #13 Bubba Bailey and the rest of the time he threw into the flats to his running backs or threw screen passes to the other 2 wide receivers. So Southwestern needs to keep a spy on Bowling and play a zone D to keep some defenders in the flats and that'll be their key to winning this game.
  6. I don't know. The North D that I've seen the last two weeks hasn't been one that has allowed a bunch of points to be scored on them.
  7. I'll give the edge to Clay as well but not for the fact that they are coming off that loss. I'm giving it to them because the North offense has yet to show up so, until it does you pretty much have to give the edge to every team North plays. The North D has proved that they've got what it takes to keep a high powered offense at bay but, with no support on the other side of the ball it hasn't transpired into a "W".
  8. Pretty good game. I'll look for X to come out firing after the half.
  9. Both teams coming off of tough losses. North Laurel gets a chance to protect home field again and I'd hate to say that this game is a "must win" because it's still really early in the season but, this game would be a good one to win. North needs to pick up the first league game to gain a little confidence. I don't know much about the Clay County team this season so maybe someone could tell me a little about them.
  10. as do I. Always hate to see anyone get hurt..really hate to see someone get seriously hurt on a late hit, something that could have been avoided.
  11. Does anyone know Setters' and Tyree's stats?? They got the ball a good amount this game. Tyree showed he has some good hands, that last play on the INT would have been a touch down Tyree just didn't break soon enough and the throw was just a tad bit high and the play by bowling was awesome.
  12. Yeah, very physical could describe it pretty good. That was the toughest powderpuff game I've seen, the girls spent more time tackeling one another than they did trying to grab flags:lol: It was a good game though and had a really good turn out.
  13. Well it seems that the voters have decided that South Laurel will win this game.
  14. That was in a way what I was trying to get at. I've talked a few parents that have felt that way toward things. I will say a lot of it is parents being parents though and they feel that their kid isn't getting enough attention and will complain but I've also talked to a few that don't have kids on the team anymore that have also expressed this same feeling.
  15. Yeah, I completely agree. If you read the post that I wrote after boucher addressed my comment on Setters, I wasn't comparing their ability; just the way that Blair was used and I thought that Setters would be more effective if he was used more in the same ways, he's not tough enough to run up the middle and that's the only place they use him. To comment on #5, COMPLETELY agree with you're comment. Neither team really has the size that the big schools do and that just comes back to bite them when they do play the teams with bigger size. I'm taking North in a close one.
  16. Let me ask you a question then...A few of you have commented that Jones may be better suited for the QB position than Wardrup and maybe the coaching staff should try a change to move Wardrup to tailback and Jones back to QB instead of receiver. Why do you think that the coaching staff has not tried to make such a change as of yet? The staff certainly didn't hesitate to let one of their back up QB's play the receiver position so, I'm confused as to why they haven't tried to make changes elsewhere. We all agree that Wardrup has a great deal athletic ability, he just may not be as best suited for the QB position. That's just how I feel about the situation.
  17. The comment wasn't even as much about the high schools sport programs as it was about the optimist and little league teams and things like that. While kids are growing up playing sports there are a lot of kids around London that get passed up that have a lot of athletic ability because some coaches only focus their play books or teams around one player or a few players and I just think that if that were changed at an early age these kids, when they get to the high school level, would be much more complete teams. I'll use an example as the South Laurel basketball team from a few years ago that won the state championship. That was a complete team, they grew up playing together and worked well as a team and it payed off and I just believe that if more teams that North brings up were worked together as a "team" and not just focused around a few players the North Laurel High School sports programs would be some of the best in the state but, thats just my opinion.
  18. OK let me comment on the Setters comment that I made...in no way was I say that he was going to be anywhere on the level that Blair was when he played. The comparison that I was making was how Blair was used. When I would watch Blair run he was amazing, this is Setters first Varsity year so I'm not saying at all that he is even on the same level as Nik. The coaching staff used Nik to the outside with sweeps and counters a lot when he played that gave him a chance to get a full head of steam and break a lot of tackles out there, I know he ran up the middle a good deal too but like I said Setters isn't on that level yet and honestly I don't think the line can hold a hole open long enough for any of the North Laurel runners to get through it. I just think if they used him MORE to the outside, not every time, that he'd have a better chance to make an impact on the team in the running game. So I'm sorry if you misunderstood my comparison, that would be an unfair comparison, considering Blair was one of the best running back NL has seen. (in addition, I also think that Tyree could be more effective being used a little more to the outside, hes got some ability to make some people miss, from what I've seen.) And I totally agree with you on the North secondary, they didn't really get tested a whole lot on Friday night and SL is going to be looking to try and expose a weakness in the defense, and that may very well be it. The boys up front need to make sure that he doesn't get to comfortable back there or they will be in for a long night. I completely agree with you on that.
  19. I've got a chance to see a couple practices this year and Jones is looking a lot better...His accuracy isn't where it needs to be but, really neither is Wardrup's. Jones has much better decision making skills I'll give him that. What i like about jones is that he hasn't complained about not getting this starting job, he worked on his catching skills and now is a receiver as well. I've only seen Fugate a few times and he is a quick QB, i do know that he turned his ankle pretty good in Friday nights game so..hope he can come back from that really soon. Completely agree with the "stars" comment. North Laurel sports in general have usually always been about whos got the name and who can we showcase somehow, and thats why they hardly ever win anything. Wardrup just happens to be the next case of that i'm afraid. North has so many offensive weapons that they just aren't using in the right way. I commented earlier on Setters, who i believe can be the next Nik Blair, and they use him up the middle. Tyree, who i also believe can be an impact player, they use him right up the middle. Brandonburg, we all know what he can do. Those three combining to run the ball...i don't know of a much better trio right now. But predictable play calling because of lack of versatility from the QB position is killing the North Laurel offense right now. I think this team has the ability to make an impact.
  20. I'm just not ready to jump on this kids bandwagon yet..i've honestly, IMO, not seen anything to really impress me all that much. I agree out of the quarterbacks that North has at the moment he is probably the best out of the bunch, but that doesn't make him a great quarterback automatically. He does need to work on this accuracy, a lot. As for good arm..my opinion is he has a mediocre arm at best. He's pretty good at the slant patterns and come backs but as far as long balls, he basically just heaves it up and hopes one of the small receivers catch it (ex. the interception he threw last night, he was looking straight into the air when he threw that ball and there were three defenders around the receiver he was trying to make it to) now i understand that this is his second year and he has a lot of learning to do and i'll agree with the hits he did take some good shots and get right back up, but i still have yet to see him step up and take a leadership role on this team that it needs from their quarterback, so i'm not jumping on the Adrian Wardrup bandwagon just yet...i hope he can change my mind. As for ricky bowling, i agree with you completely he's not going to have as much luck as he did last night against this North D. North just needs to watch that dump off pass that i saw a lot from South last night. This is going to be a great game
  21. Should be a good game to watch next week at the Jungle. I'll look for North to turn the game into a defensive battle and not let Ricky Bowling get comfortable in the pocket. These teams are very familiar with one another and i look for it to be an all out battle. South's main target should be Wardrup, you get him rattled and the game is yours. I look for south to really try and expose the North secondary that wasn't really tested to much in the CHC game last night.
  22. I can't wait for next weeks game against North and South. Bowling looked good last night pretty much all game, so I'm looking forward to how good he's going to do against that tough North Laurel defense. South's D was basically a non-factor in the game last night and from my understand that was going to be a strong point on the team this year because of lack of quality receivers for Bowling to throw to but it was completely opposite last night.
