This is spot on. Go watch one of the elite summer teams in this area that these 8th grade kids play on. There are only 3 14U teams that compete on a national level around here, The Cincy Flames, The Riverbats, and The Midland Tomahawks. There are actually 2 NKY kids on the Tomahawks, one of which I know his family well. He was recently listed as one of the Top 50 14U players in the country by Travel Ball Select- yes that kind of stuff is crazy but it's out there- and say what you want about stuff like that, but this kids goal is to play D1 college baseball, and that kind of pub and exposure cannot be bad, and he would not get that by playing freshman baseball (or JV/Varsity) as a frosh. By the time school ball is over, these kids will have played against the best of the best, many against teams from the south which, as a whole, are just simply better because they never stop playing. We have been lucky around here this year, but usually HS/Frosh ball is a battle against the elements and not the greatest comp.

If he is playing 14u summer ball that would make him an old 8th grader or young freshman? I heard the name Braydon Combs mentioned for the Tomahawks from northern kentucky but can't verify. The age thing is always tricky for the kids that have summer birthdays. Got a chance to catch the Ryle JV vs. Cooper JV last night and both catchers can flat out play. Brownell (Ryle) and Roedersheimer (Cooper) are both Freshmen and both are very good. Both block and throw really well and both can hit. Should be bright futures for both.

As my screen name states, I am Cameron Edwards dad. A friend of mine called me and told me about Blue Grass Preps and I should check out what is being said. Let me clear some things up.

 

Racerx my son is a young freshman his is 14. His birthday is in August. He is playing for the 14u Cincinnati Flames. HE IS NOT the only freshman on the 14u Flames there are 3 total. My son is on the Varsity squad at CCHS.

 

Imhisdad, I don't know who you are or where you get your info. My son has not bounced from team to team. I can't believe I had to join this gossip forum to defend my kid but here is his list of previous teams. Little League until 8 years old. NKY Giants 9u and 10u year old SWOL National League. Midland Warriors 11u National League. Skipped age 12u to play up at 13u. This is where it may get confusing. My son played for Barracks Baseball 13u National League SWOL. The coaches started cheating, bringing in older kids to play so I pulled my son off. A friend of mine had a son on the 12u Diamond Jaxx SWOL NL and heard about Cam leaving and offered him a spot due to an arm injury. Cam also played that year with 13u Midland American gold team and played with that same team again at the 14u level. We left that team after Midland pulled its sponsorship and eliminated all the teams but one at the National League level.

 

Guys if you have any questions feel free to ask me, but get your facts right. My son is a loyal kid and was put in a bad spot one year by a couple coaches that should be banned from youth baseball, ask Larry Redwine. I don't know how good my kid is it's not for me to decide it's the coaches. He like to play ball and I like to watch him. We had no idea he would make Varsity at CCHS but he set that goal last year worked very hard all off season on his hitting and pitching and did it and I am proud of him for it.

Well.......I have had teams/children play against Cameron and first and foremost he is a very hard worker who is not a pleasant opponent to face. Kudos for him for getting varsity playing time as a freshmen at a 6A school.

Teams disband, combine, and/or doing what is best for your child is what a parent is focused on; not the perception of a group of "outsiders looking in."

Cameron Faehr....pitching for Boones varsity team..........and doing quite well,I might add.
