McDonald or no McDonald, NCC has plenty of balance. Having said that, if CovCath can shoot the 3 the way they did against HC, they can win this game. I am going with NewCath in a close game:

Newport Central Catholic 56

Covington Catholic 52

What's the story on McDonald?

I didn't see him in the box score against Highlands.....is he still hurt?

Not hurt, been back for a couple games now.

Played well on defense against Towles, however, wasn't involved on the offensive end of the court. Took one shot the entire game.

Agreed. However, with the bigger arena, nerves, etc., I'll go with the team that gets their inside game going in this match up. I think NCC has a bit more potential to establish an inside presence against CCH that is why I am giving them the edge. Now, whether or not they take advantage of this will be the question. If they get the ball inside first the outside shots will open up.

In my opinion, the outside shooting will off set for both teams, or perhaps CCH gets a slight advantage.

I think McDonald, Shulte, Miller will be to much for the Colonels to handle if they are utilized.

NCC - 56

CCH - 50

I would have to disgree with this statement. NCC looks to have had problems of late with scoring points or taking advantage of creating foul problems for teams by attacking the rim from the paint and going inside to their bigs. Trying a new concept of playing Schulte and the McDonald kid at the same time may prove to be a benefit. If I am not mistaken, Highlands had 6 team fouls with a minute or so to go in the game and NCC never got to the bonus until 1:30 left in the 2nd quarter. If you attack the rim and not settle for 3's well the game IMO would have been 10-15 point NCC win versus 5? If a team lives and dies by the 3 ball you have to take what you get.

"For HHS to be successful, Patrick needs to be the focus of their offense. He was big for Highlands tonight, single handitly kept Highlands in the game. Hard to get on the young man for missing a free throw towards the end. Without him, Highlands gets beat by 20+ tonight."

Moken, from the Highlands/NCC thread (you know the one that has become a charge/blocking thread) This was your quote? So did he play good defense or not on Towles? I agree for NCC to be successful, Mac needs to get the ball in the paint so we can watch his super sweet baby hook and to open up the 3's. They also have added depth now with Schulte and Morse stepping up. Highchew and Ruschultz should be an incredible matchup to watch. Looking forward to this one. Unless Tobler has another monster game look for the Breds to win.

Yes, McDonals did play good defense on Towles when he was guarding him. He did give up a couple baskets to him, however, Towles made hay and single handitly kept HHS in the game when McDonald was on the bench, in transition or when someone else was guarding him down low.

From what i recall McDonald sat a lot in the Highlands game and the Breds went with Schulte, Beuter, Ryan, Miller and Siebert when they made their most important runs. When both McDonald and Schulte were in the game it made it a Little tougher for PT that is for sure. They should definitely use both if Tobler gives them trouble or if they simply want to establish a huge presence on the block. Keep in mind these two are Still young and will be much better next season.

How they played and executed against HC.

vs

How they played and executed against Holmes.

Easy Math Clyde - I agree with you.

Maybe the Colonels get a pass on their performance against Holmes, knowing they were in the regional and coming off of a Four-OT game against Holy Cross.

I've heard the "tired" thing. I don't completely buy into it. Just a bad night against a pretty good team.
