I have watched a lot of 9th Region Girls basketball this year and it has really been a great season. I just heard the 9th region player of the year is a tie. Yes indeed a tie. Now I have a small problem with this when I fould out how the coachs vote on this. I just have a hard time understanding how a girl (Sydney Moss) could possibly win Miss Basketball (and in case some of you dont know what that means, SHE'S THE BEST PLAYER IN THE STATE!) Isnt the out right best player in her Region? When the girl she is tied with isnt even in the conversation for Miss Basketball. Just goes to show you how stupid some coachs can be. GROW UP! Its just sad when you take that from kids cause thats the only ones who really get hurt!

As in most years there are several deserving candidates. Coach Collins and any of the three you mentioned would have been deserving.

Mom said the Scott Coach didn't vote for Scott Draud when he had the big year for Highlands and it cost him "Player of the Year." So at least they ended in a tie and two get the honor I guess. It's sad when coaches take it out on the kid. Moss could have helped my Lady Camels this year. She's a keeper. :notworthy:

ImO, she has been the best player in the state tourney.

 

Also, to help possobly ease your indignation, they just handed out the POY awards. From the POY recipients, all seniors, they introduced the five that are finalists for Miss Basketball.

 

BOTH, yes BOTH, Sydney and Jenna ARE top 5 finalists for Miss Basketball.

 

That honor has not yet been announced.

I have no way to know.

To be player of the year I think you have to do more than have 2 steals in a game. Also, I do not think they look as much at your defensive stats (outside of rebounds maybe) as much as they do offensive stats.

 

I'm not saying Taylor is player of the year, but you can't blow her off like that. 13 points, 25% of team total, 42% from field, 75% FT, 5 rebounds (guard), 6 assists.
