Man have I been out of the political forum and not been paying

attention to the other 16th region threads for too long.

Shocked once again. These are teams that L.C.C. should be beating or at least competing with.

 

Letcher County Central was clearly the weakest team in the field this year. They have a genuine athlete in Eli (I think his last name is Warren), and they have decent size, but that is about it. The young point guard that was their first sub off the bench showed some promise, but he is still too young to turn the tide. In another year or two, he will be a very solid player, but by then their size will be gone (unless they have size in the younger classes).

Besides - he was always trying to sit close to me when we weren't playing - I do believe he had eyes for me.

LCC has really struggled here lately making me wonder if their early success came from riding the wave of being a new school and the excitement that comes with it, has the excitement worn off

I think they are a solid team that will get better as the season wears on. I have no idea who they will have to get past to win their region, but they will improve. I hope that no one misunderstands my earlier post. I didn't mean to say that LCC was a bad team, only that they must get the absolute most out of Eli to compete with good teams.

I still believe LCC is way overrated in the 14th and their play as of late is starting to substantiate that. Can't seem to score and no chemistry at all. Was that the case at Ashland or is Russell that good?

In the AIT, Russell played horribly in the first two games. They were completely out of sync as a team, with no discernible offensive goal. Dodd was trying to run a motion offense, and several of the players had a different agenda. I'd be willing to bet that the Ashland Independent Schools had to repaint the walls of the locker room that Russell was assigned after each of the first two games.

 

It would appear that the kids started to get the message, because when they played LCC, they began to look like a team (for the first time in the AIT). LCC looked like they were out of gas by the time they played Russell, and when you take into account the fact that Eli (someone help me with this kid's last name) spent most of the first half on the bench, Russell put the game out of reach. LCC played fairly well when Eli was on the floor (second half), but they simply looked lost without him.

Jeff Cooksey? :lol: Now there is a sight! :lol:

Come to think of it - that would be something to watch. Cooksey (who was known to block his own shot from time to time), being guarded by an elderly woman with arthritic knees wearing a skirt and boxing him out after the first shot goes up ...
