How do those executive orders work? When can they be used? What are their limits?

It is robbery, one day 3.00 a gallon, next day 3.50 a gallon. So much for tourism.

$3.00 a gallon? Woot! Where is that? I thought I was getting a deal in French Lick, because it's $3.24 here. It's .25 higher in Louisville right now.

Not tapping the reserves, but it is dire times for the economy and us low middle class workers who have a hard time getting bills paid for like gas, electric, food, house, car payments. It is impossible to spend money in other places that help other businesses like restaurants, clothing stores, sporting events of my kids. Lower gas prices and it does help a lot. I do know demand is up in other growing countries and any problem in the M.E. causes speculators to jump oil up. It should be against the law to raise prices 20 to 30 cents in a matter of 1day.

OK...I'm going to just jump in here with this: I have been in every economic status from dirt poor to lower middle class. Never have I had any "real" discretionary income. I know that for some people who have plummeted to those depths, it's probably a shock to the system. But for a lot of us who've robbed Peter to pay Paul for the majority of our lives, it's actually only seemed a little bit harder.

In dire times, both sides usually come together. When we go to war with Iran, then it will be a dire time. Do we have the technology to do the previous said?

I think you should revise your comment. It's if we go to war with Iran, not when. I personally don't think we will.

I ask this in all sincerity, what's it going to take for you to reach solidly into the middle class? I've been reading your posts for a few years on here now, and you're obviously way above average intelligence. What do you want out of the Federal gov't? Is there anything that could happen between now & November that would take your vote away from Obama?

So you want the federal government to tell businesses what they can charge and much profit they can make?

I know what you are saying and that goes against capitalism and toward socialism. But this effects our whole economy and families. it isnt like they are trying to tell a business how much to charge for toliet paper. The Government can put a restriction on the price for now, at least until we get our mess figured out with gas prices and Iran.

Saving the auto business with a bailout had a huge impact on families and helped the economy.

Why not put a price restriction on gas prices for now? Make it 3.25 until May, then re-evaluate. It isnt like the oil companies arent making a ton of money anyway.

I wasnt against the auto bailout, it helped people keep jobs and feed their families. Even if we lost money.

But with gas prices so high and getting higher, we cant put money into other busineses and get the circular flow model going.

Why would Exxon or BP or SuperAmerica agree to cap their prices? Wouldn't they just make less gas available? They still have to buy it at the market price.

Not to be a smart aleck, but when I first saw the thread title, the three things that immediately popped into my head were:

1.) Lies

2.) Half-Truths

3.) Boasts

And they will come from both sides. In other words, the same thing that happens every presidential election.

Dont give them a choice, or meet with them and go over it. Go to alternative fuels, like Brazil. OPEC I am sure is loving it.

Pretty drastic steps - don't give them a choice?

Let me hear what you think we can do or need to do. I am sure they are good ideas.

Aren't there some industries currently regulated by the govt?
