Good point. One I've made for years concerning taxes. However these aren't taxes. If a church is self insured, and you tell them they have to supply contraception to their employees at no cost, it's more like putting a gun in the pacifists hands and shipping them to the middle east.

I am not a liberal but I support birth control and contraceptives as being available. Birth control for one kept my wife's endometriosis at a safe level in order for a surgical procedure to correct the problem and allow her to become pregnant. As for abortions well my wife is currently pregnant, but if the cancer in her cervix begins to spread an abortion will be necessary to save her life before the cancer spreads, assuming our child has not reached viability at that point, also many in the religious right consider fertility treatments to be as evil as abortion, they would like to see those procedures outlawed right along with abortion. Which is easy for them to say while they stand their holding their natural born children.

Well that's why I supported as being available and covered. Cancer and other female problems can be very expensive to correct, with simple contraceptives many of them can be prevented and kept in check, i.e. endometriosis.

Possibly, yes. I don't know I'm not a doctor, just women's issues are near and dear to my heart now with all we've been through the last several months so I've found myself more passionate about it lately. I'm probably blinded by our own personal battle, but I would guess most people's beliefs are based on what would have been best for them.

At the time it seemed odd that Stephanopoulos pushed the issue of contraceptives so hard in the NH debate. Maybe not so odd now.

I don't want anyone to get the impression that I am in any way, shape or form arguing in favor of outlawing oral contraception. I am well aware of situations like yours where the OCP actually has a therapeutic use rather then just preventing pregnancy and I would be the first person to cry foul if anyone tries to outlaw them. I still wonder why OCP has become somewhat of a sacred cow to those on the liberal side of things and why they are deemed so essential that the government has now mandated that they be provided at no cost to the individual.

I was listening to a Dr on the radio. She said that, for most women, the estrogen forms of birth control are unhealthy. While they can reduce the risk of cervical cancer(1 in 90) women. They greatly increase the risk of breast cancer(1 in 9 women).

 

There are many documented side effects and risks to birth control. I would venture that most are not healthy at all. They are for preventing pregnancy. Not improving women's health.
