Top teams in NKY

Featured Replies

They graduated 5 from last years team. But have the same starting pitching Freese, Nelson, and Maines. Don't get me wrong I am not saying they are taking it all. But I like there chances and certainly would have them ranked higher than 7th in NKY.

Just for fun and giggles! Just 9th region teams

1. Cov Cath

2. Holy Cross

3. Ryle

4. Beechwood

5. Boone

6. Cooper

7. Conner

8. Dixie

9. NCC

10. Lloyld/St. Hen./Highlands (not sure who each have coming back)

Just like in Basketball getting out of the 35th is going to be tough.

My only change would be moving Conner up to 5. While Teegarden is indeed a stud, not quite sure about the rest of the team on the "D" side of the ball and as I have said Pitching and Defense will win the Ninth Region this year.

They will be tough, but they are missing a key ingredient to that team. MR. ROBERTS! Going to be tough to replace that fire and leadership! No disrespect to any of the other kids.

Not showing to much love for Conner? 2 years ago the JV won the 9th as sophomores. As juniors made it to the championship game. Now as seniors you have them listed 7th? Mendoza do you really follow high school baseball? By the way they also knocked out Cov Cath last year.

Yes I sort of do know hs baseball! Juniors did not carry Conner to the regional finals last year the seniors did (mainly Roberts)! Conner will be very solid. Brad does a great job with the players. But they don't have that 1 stud on the mound like Ryle/Boone has. I would take my chances with Downs and Teegarden on the mound. It just takes 1 pitcher to get you into regionals. District seedings will be very important. Just as it will be in the 35th.

Understandable. What about Smiley? He seems to be a pretty good pitcher.

Personally, I would move Boone ahead of Beechwood.

Never said juniors carried the team to championship last year. And Roberts was a outstanding player and leader. Not many teams can replace a 400 plus hitter and his glove. But Roberts wasn't only player on the field and he didn't take all of Conners at bats and he didn't pitch. The " mainly Roberts" comment last I checked baseball is a team sport. As for 1 stud on the mound ,unless he has a rubber arm and can pitch every other game I'll take 4 solid pitchers which Conner does have.

Smiley is a nice 6'3" or 6'4" lefty that will get a lot of quality time this year. He's really working to improve and it's going to pay off.

Is Smiley a senior this year? He seems like a nice kid.

He's maybe 6'2", but a nice sized kid nonetheless.

I definitely agree with the pitching part of this statement, Conner has a nice mix of righties and lefties with some experience. Definitely will help out. However, I'm not so sure of how their hitting is going to look with their returning players (especially the seniors, as juniors last year, they were not relied on offensively). Add in the new BBCOR's, and it may be time to go to the small ball a bit more. Arlo will figure out the team and have them ready to battle for the 33rd.

This really revolves around LEADERSHIP wildcat. Hopefully someone will be able to step up and fill that role. Now I'm going to show my age. The Big Red Machine was a great team top to bottom. Once they got rid of their "Leader" "Tony Perez" they were never the same. Not saying Roberts was a Perez, just trying to show how a Leader can affect a team. JMO!

Talked to a parent from Scott and they like the hire of Jeff Trame and said Jeff has a nice staff assembled and really bragged on this young team with their ability to hit the ball and having great speed. Scott's big challange will be finding a rotation they dont have a legit Ace and they need to be better with the gloves this year. Reed Spata is a good young player.
