January 31, 201214 yr It's amazing how many old, deserted houses have burned in my county in recent years. Most people seem to think it is from people making meth. My neice visited from Frankfort and she had a project where she needed photos of old, 1800's era houses. She was doing something on haunted houses. I took her to about 7 old houses that I was aware of, and 4 of them had burned. Illegal prescription drugs and meth are a huge problem in most mountain counties these days. Meth is a problem throughout most of the state.
January 31, 201214 yr Does anyone really think that making pseudo-ephedrine prescription only will have any effect on this? IMVHO all it will do is make it harder (and more expensive) for law abiding people to get the medicine they need.

Nothing !!

You take time off of work to see your doctor or your kid misses school to do it and you pay your co-pay. So instead of going to the store and spending 10 or 15 bucks you now have at least an hour at the doctor's office, a 10-50 dollar co-pay depending on your insurance and then the actual charge for the medication. And several doctors I have spoken to have said that with all the publicity this is getting, if it passes there's no way they will just call in a script without an office visit. All this will do is make it harder for law abiding people to get the medicine, the illegals won't miss a beat. Oxy is a prescription med and that certainly hasn't stopped it from being abused.
February 1, 201214 yr The prescriptions won't keep the meth from Mexico off the streets. Considering every hillbilly with a craving and a half-decent understanding of chemistry can make meth, I have a hard time conceptualizing the "Mexican meth problem." But putting pseudoephedrine-based medications on prescription restrictions doesn't/won't solve the problem either.
