Not sure you can just leave jobs out of it when asking about positive/negative impacts on the US as a whole.

 

My question centered strictly around the impact of oil on us from a security/energy independence/lowe prices at the pump standpoint.

 

I'm not discounting jobs. I just think that's an easy crutch for people to fall back on without really understanding the issue.

Four days before the Deepwater Horizon accident there were 55 rotary rigs actually drilling offshore in the Gulf of Mexico.

On May 28, 2010, when the administration announced the six-month moratorium on deepwater drilling, there were 46 rotary rigs operating in the Gulf.

Last week, 25 rotary rigs were operating in the Gulf of Mexico.

The Energy Department’s Energy Information Administration reports that production in the Gulf of Mexico is in decline, forecasting a decline of 250,000 barrels a day from Gulf production, due partly to the moratorium and restricted permitting.

While the annual production figure for 2010 was greater than 2009, EIA’s month-by-month production figures show a peak in May of 2010, and a relatively steady decline since.

EIA Petroleum Engineer Gary Long told trade publication E&E News that the rig count in the Gulf was cut in half after the Deepwater Horizon accident and that it wouldn’t rebound to previous levels until the end of 2011 under the assumption that the permitting process is restored to historical rates.

In short. Higher cost to consumers across the board. Not only gas, but food, electricity, plastic products, etc.

So we should go back to record dependence on foreign oil as in the middle of the George W. Bush tenure? Would that help?

So which Obama policies led to the production increase? The reasons for increased production are due to newer and better technology to increase the production from old wells.

We are not a oil exporter, we are a gasoline/refined petroleum exporter. HUGE difference. We still import a lot of oil but we have more refining capacity than almost every other country. We still have to import a lot of the oil we refine, then turn around and export the finished product.

 

The reason we are getting more oil in this country? Not because Obama has made it easy, but because exploration and extraction technology has changed/advanced. It also cost more to get the oil we are getting, and Obama's EPA is fighting shale oil extraction tooth and nail. The reason it has advanced? Because Obama's EPA will not let us get oil permits where it is easier to get. They want us to use clean electric.

 

The facts are under Obama the coal industry has been pretty much crippled, causing electricity to raise 50% for the majority of America. The Obama Administration wants us to use more electricity but use less coal to make the electricity. Makes 0 sense to me until you look at his loans to Solandra and companies like that.

 

His followers do not realize that just because you plug something in a wall that is nice, white, and clean that some dirt and pollution was a by product of that "clean" electricity.

 

 

 

 

 

Once again, how anyone can vote for him is a testament of how out of tune with real life a lot of people are.

Hard to understand why Obama supporters simple-mindlessly believe what he says without paying any attention to his actual actions.They rarely match.

Again, you aren't following. I'm asking how the President's actions or inactions have impacted us. I get that oil is a big part of the cost of products made as well as product shipped. Again, hardly news you're breaking here.

Pretty much what I expected. I was holding out (against all odds) hope for intelligent debate and discussion.

 

My contention is that the President (nor Congress) doesn't have nearly the impact on the price of oil as you contend .

 

So , again, let's make it simple.

 

How does the President impact the price of gas?

 

How does the President impact the cost of a barrel of oil?

 

How did the US not winning the contract with Brazil impact us at the pump?

 

How can the President, without action taken by Congress, ensure that any oil pulled from the US causes gas prices to go down? Production costs to go down?
