Saw quite possibly the worst officiated game I have ever seen tonight. Woodford County had a 6 point lead on Southwestern and the grey headed official (not sure I know the name) gave the WC coach a technical for saying, "The fouls are 5-0." He then said to the coach, "You insinuated that I was cheating." Turned the entire game around. 4 FTS b/c of a shooting foul, scored on the possession, then they were in the bonus b/c of the foul and the technical. Give Southwestern credit they never gave the game back to Woodford but I've never seen such "Power hungry" referees in my life. Same referee, during a timeout, turned to the referee crew behind him and gave a thumbs up...not only power hungry, but unprofessional. I will never come to another game in the 12th after this year. No accountability for the referees.

 

With all that said, I look for Southwestern to win the 12th this year. Coach Wright inherited a nice group of players. Good luck to them the rest of the way.

The Boyle/Ohio County game was so bad that fans from both teams came together after the game and discussed how bad they were. And no, Scott Bottoms was not there. Unfortunately. Last night, technicals were not team fouls. Tonight they were.

Will these refs be working the games tomorrow? If so which ones?

If you play in a tournament w 12th Region officials and play against a 12th region team... better be 10 points better to have a chance. That goes for any region. Bar none. Nature of the beast.

In games I've seen Scott Bottoms is a solid official.

Depends. They were definitely not helping out their 12th region brethren Boyle County tonight. :lol:

 

 

Were they bad at the LCA/Danville game? That score was a lot closer than I expected.

GRC is probably the favorite but don't sleep on Ohio County. I wouldn't be surprised to see them beat Southwestern. They are a well coached and well disciplined team. They can all shoot and are more athletic than they look. I was impressed by them last night and tonight.

I looked at their schedule and see they are 9-0 with good wins over Muhlenberg Co and Manual. I looked in Cats Pause and they are ranked 2nd in the region behind Muhlenberg Co and return all players from last years team. ( They now have a win over Muhlenberg). Cats Pause stated they could be the most dangerous team in the 3rd region when "they were on".

Yes. But mainly because you have two quality big men in Fatkin and Rogers and Stenzel is a player. Doesn't look like you guys get rattled either.

 

I like the Ohio County team better than Southwestern. Southwestern still isn't clicking with their new pieces. Southwestern may beat Ohio County but Ohio County has looked pretty good so far. You can tell Ohio County has played together for a while.

Watched 7 varsity games two jv games and 2 freshman games at Mercer by far the worst officiating that i have seen in my entire 40 years of watching games. Seems the refs were more into themselves than there to call a ball game. I have never saw refs calling fans out of the crowd , Thought there job was to ref the game. If the KHSAA has any gumption about them which i doubt they do , they should come up with a system to do better. Merry Christmas to All!!!!!

I'm so over people complaining about the refs. Them guys are human. I yell at refs like most fans but I let it go as soon as the game is over. They don't miss layups, free throws, open jumpers or turn it over. The same complaints you guys have about our 12th region refs I have after games at your place with your refs. Let it go. We are humans capable of making mistakes. You have a problem with the refs then go take the test so you can travel on your own dime to get harassed for at least an hour and a half for 55 bucks.

Very well run tournament and I am grateful to have such a good tourney close to home for me to enjoy Ky high school basketball. Good job Mercer County. I look forward to next year.

I've heard it is a good tournament. I'd love for Garrard to get into that event instead of playing in Bowling Green and Williamsburg. But Mercer's done a nice job over the years of getting a good mix of local schools and top teams from around the state.

i would agree it was a very well run tournament with very nice and courteous people. i also agree refs are just HUMAN, but i also noticed instances of refs running down the floor looking up in the stands GLARING at fans, that is only instigating a potential problem. Most refs do a great job and some do miss calls, but lets not forget fans are only HUMAN too and no one is forcing them to be a referee and they must also remember a gymnasium is not a funeral home and it will get loud with cheering and complaining. The THEY ARE ONLY HUMAN phrase goes both ways, fans and refs. But overall it was a great facility with some great basketball this week, very enjoyable.

It is not uncommon for unruly fans to be escorted out of a 12th region basketball game. Not uncommon at all.

I don't know what the crowd size was like this week, but sometimes the amount of people in the stands for holiday tournaments is rather small. One loud voice in a group of 100 (or fewer) can seemingly get louder and louder. That might have had something to do with looking into the stands.

I'd say each ref knew exactly who had something to say to them. A Southwestern fan even followed the championship game ref crew to their locker room.

unruly fans should be escorted out of games in the 12 region or any region games. I certainly was not at all of the Mercer county tourney games but i did not see any unruly fans making rude gestures, using obscene language or throwing objects on the floor, but like i said i wasnt at all the games. Overall i thought it was a very good tournament and GRC is a very fine team and seemed to have some very fine young men representing their school as did southwestern.
