Saw quite possibly the worst officiated game I have ever seen tonight. Woodford County had a 6 point lead on Southwestern and the grey headed official (not sure I know the name) gave the WC coach a technical for saying, "The fouls are 5-0." He then said to the coach, "You insinuated that I was cheating." Turned the entire game around. 4 FTS b/c of a shooting foul, scored on the possession, then they were in the bonus b/c of the foul and the technical. Give Southwestern credit they never gave the game back to Woodford but I've never seen such "Power hungry" referees in my life. Same referee, during a timeout, turned to the referee crew behind him and gave a thumbs up...not only power hungry, but unprofessional. I will never come to another game in the 12th after this year. No accountability for the referees.

 

With all that said, I look for Southwestern to win the 12th this year. Coach Wright inherited a nice group of players. Good luck to them the rest of the way.

 

I watched Southwestern a few nights ago and wasn't entirely impressed. They are definitely talented, but I don't think they're a lock to win the region by any means.

Scott Bottoms is a good ref and a stand up guy. He routinely is a 12th region representative for the Sweet 16. I am not defending the technical call. All I can say is that he must have felt a reason to T him up. Woodford County lost because they couldn't buy a bucket in the 2nd half. Not because of the technical foul.

I feel sorry for the 12th region if Scott Bottoms is the best they have. You all can keep him. I'm done with him and moving on.

I know he is a respected official and while he may have erred in giving the technical tonight(I really don't know) I can say he is human. I have a lot of love for Scott Bottoms and I am proud to have him as one of our officials. A well officiated game can be expected when you see Scott Bottoms on the court more often than not.

 

Southwestern is easily the favorite in the 12th region. What's funny is that tonight they didn't play to their capabilities. At least not in my mind. I am certain they can play better than what they did. I am a big Justin Edwards fan and it seemed like he couldn't throw it in the ocean tonight. I am looking forward to seeing them against the team from Miami.

I agree 100% on Scott Bottoms. I think he occasionally comes across a little stern and he definitely won't listen to non-sense from the sidelines, but if you get him in the 12th Region, you're going to have a well-officiated game.

LCA, GRC and Southwestern in the semis so far. The other team will be the winner of this game: 8:30pm-Ohio County vs Boyle County

GRC is probably the favorite but don't sleep on Ohio County. I wouldn't be surprised to see them beat Southwestern. They are a well coached and well disciplined team. They can all shoot and are more athletic than they look. I was impressed by them last night and tonight.
