The District Seed games do not bother me. All coaches at some point will take a beating and give a beating at some point. When the game is against someone that is a district seed game or a county rival you just have to live with it. The problem i have is when schools schedule an opponnent that they know they are going to THUMP and there is no need to play that given school. Those are the ones that bother me!

Go to KHSAA website and look at Brown's season results.That is not their worst losing margin!

 

I assume this is The Brown School, located in downtown Louisville? I never even knew the had sports teams there.

As a coach I rarely post on the boards, but this topic comes up every season and I really bothers me. I coach a girls team at a high school that has 120 students total!!!! I'm in a district with Mercer, East Jessamine, and West Jessamine. Each of these schools have more kids in their freshman class than I have in my entire HS. I realize there will be times that I take a 50+ point beating. It doesn't bother me at all and I've never felt like the score has been run up. Coaches do what they feel is best for THEIR team and THEIR program.....PERIOD. It's not personal. If you don't want to get beat and sometimes beat badly play in a church league. When we take a beating, it provides me teaching opportunity, as a matter of fact I intentionally schedule at least one team per year I know will beat us 30+. On the flip side, we have blown some teams out by as much as 75 points, I don't intentionally run the score up, but when I go to the bench, those younger kids deserve and have earned the right to play and play hard so we allow them that opportunity when it arises. All you posters out there that scream about sportsmanship please stop......It's a competitive environment bad beats will happen.

Well said Bulldog_Chem! I agree about competitive environment and that bad beats will happen. I also agree with you about you can't tell your subs not to play hard! I just have an issue with coaches who schedule schools that they know they can beat that bad. District games you have to schedule, it is the ones that don't have to be played that are played that bother me.

Like I said sportsmaniac, I intentionally schedule a game or two that I know going in we're a HEAVY underdog. It's an opportunity to teach. I expect to make the regional tournament every season and when we do, we are playing as an underdog. I don't want that tournament game to be the first time we've been in that situation. I schedule those games with teams/coaches that I know personally and we both have an understanding of what I'm trying to accomplish and what they are trying to accomplish going into those games. I can't imagine a coach scheduling a game that's non district that he/she is going to get beat by 50+ unless they have a specific plan for playing that game. JMO.

Most districts seed. For example Silver Grove is forced to take beating from Bishop Brossart, Campbell County, and Scott every year because the 37th District is seeded.

They have a unique educational structure for JCPS (with grades 1-12 inhabiting the same campus) but with only 730 students in all 12 grades, it likely makes for an underwhelming selection of athletes to put together much of a basketball program.

In the past teams have been able to not play the district games during the regular season and just take the last seed in the district tournament. I dont know if any teams still do this.

My school (Owsley County) is kind of in the same boat. We have 800 students K-12, and we're the only school in the county! We hold our own, though, winning 10 districts championships since 1982 and making it to the semifinals or finals of the region 8 times in that span.

 

Of course, we don't have to compete in Jefferson County either!

Yeah, I don't know what the average high school enrollment is in Jefferson County, but I'd imagine that average is more than Brown has at their entire 1-12 school.
